One Universe vs Multiverse

I think it is fair to say that Marvel's Cinematic Universe has been an unprecedented success, not just at the box office but it also enticed other movie studios like Fox, Sony, and even WB following suit and building their own universe. However, WB is now spearheading another trend, which is the creation of multiverse across TV and movies. With a few exceptions, most of WB's upcoming shows and films inspired by DC comics are standalones and do not connect with other productions. On TV, only Arrow and Flash (and maybe Supergirl) are part of an TV universe, but the rest (Gotham, Constantine, Titans, etc) are in their own worlds. On movies, Batman v Superman and JL will definitely be connected, but Shazam! will not, and we don't know about the Suicide Squad just yet.

Personally, I like the idea of an All-Connected Cinematic Universe, because it's not only revolutionary, but it really mimic what the comics have done, making everything being part of a complete universe. However, I can also see how multiverse will come in handy on certain, special occasions. Since Marvel is only privy of the properties that don't involved Spider-Man and X-Men, which essentially reduce about half of the characters and events they can actually use, using the concept of multiverse will allow them to make a TV show based on Thor, showing his life on Asgard, without interfering with what's going on in the big screen and Marvel's Cinematic Universe.

So what do you think about the existence of these two concepts that will be dominating both TV and movies in the foreseeable future?
