Last generation: Ps3, 360, Wii - who won?

Okay 2 generations back, I think it is quite clear that the Ps2 was king. It is the best selling system of all time, sitting close to 160.

That's not to say that xbox and gamecube were failures though, they all had stellar games worth owning said console for; halo, fable, forza, mario, zelda, metroid, pokemon, smash, etc.

But I don't think the answer is quite clear cut, or even popularly agreed upon for last generation.

The 360 came out a year early and is hugely popular, and definitely had Xbox make a name for itself. It's got about 84.

The Ps3 on the other hand had a rough 2 years in the beginning. MGS4 made things a little better for it, and then things finally started to even out with the Ps3 slim. It's got 80.

The Wii on the other hand which didn't really even compete with its competitors (lol) in my opinion, has over 100. So to me, even though it was kind of doing its own thing, the Wii was the winner of the last generation.

The 360 was more influential though. I think for the past 10 years in hardcore gaming, people thought Xbox more than PlayStation. Especially with the likes of cod, being the biggest franchise of last gen, was way more popular on 360 than Ps3.

But the Ps3 did eventually catch up to the 360. To date, There's a 4 million difference, but what's a few million when we're talking tens of millions sold, you know? I'd say it is a tie. Although the 360 almost always had way higher attachment rates though.

Ps3 & 360 tied for 2nd place, and Wii came out on top.

What do you say?

Watched this the other night.

The story revolves around the passengers of a yachting trip in the Atlantic Ocean who, when struck by mysterious weather conditions, jump to another ship only to experience greater havoc on the open seas.

After the film finished really had to think about it. With a little help from the internet finally worked it out. This probably one of the cleverest films I've ever seen.

9/10. Definitely check it out and really try and work out what is happening and why (may need to watch it twice).

Zombieland 2

EXCLUSIVE: Sony Pictures looks to be getting more serious about mounting another installment of Zombieland. Studio just hired Dave Callaham to write the sequel under the supervision of Ruben Fleischer, who’ll return to direct. Callaham has been scripting The Expendables films, and he had story credit on Legendary’s revival of Godzilla. Insiders at the studio said no deal with Fleischer, but that of corpse they are getting serious about mounting the sequel of a 2009 cult favorite sleeper film that grossed $100 million worldwide. Not sure if the participants will be back; pretty much all of them have soared since making the original, from Jesse Eisenberg to Emma Stone, True Detective’s Woody Harrelson, Abigail Breslin (who plays the title zombie in the upcoming Maggie), and Bill Murray, who’s upcoming in St. Vincent. Latter wasn’t properly positioned for a return and if he wouldn’t do another Ghostbusters, a reprise here couldn’t be as cool as it was the first go around. UTA and Kaplan/Perrone rep Callaham.

Big - FOX Developing TV Adaptation From 'Enlisted' Producers

‘Big’ Series In Works At Fox With ‘Enlisted’s Kevin Biegel & Mike Royce

by Nellie Andreeva

Big, the hugely popular 1988 comedy feature starring Tom Hanks, is getting a series remake at Fox. The network has put in development Big, a half-hour comedy from 20th Century Fox Television, whose movie division produced the Penny Marshall film written by Gary Ross and Anne Spielberg. Written and executive produced by Kevin Biegel and Mike Royce, the series would be loosely based on the movie and would explore what it means to be an adult, what it means to be a kid, and how in today’s world those two things are more confused than ever.

Biegel most recently created and with Royce executive produced cult comedy Enlisted for Fox and 20th TV. Prior to that, Biegel co-created Cougar Town and Royce was the co-creator/executive producer of Men of A Certain Age and the executive producer/showrunner on HBO’s Luckie Louie and NBC’s 1600 Penn. Biegel and Royce are repped by UTA and Morris Yorn.

There is a sense of nostalgia among broadcast executives with several 1980s movie comedies getting series treatment this development season. NBC has Real Genius, based on the 1985 film starring Val Kilmer, as well as Problem Child, based on the film that came out in 1990. Additionally, Fox is remaking cult 1981 sci-fi dramedy Greatest American Hero. Here is the trailer for Big, which made Hanks a global superstar and earned him an Oscar nomination:

Loved Enlisted. Find the right star, and this can be gold.

Rush Hour: The TV Series

Although a fourth big screen chapter in the Rush Hour franchise has long been rumored, it now appears that the mismatched cop team-up tale is headed to television. Deadline reports that Warner Bros. Television is developing the project with Bill Lawrence set to script alongside his "Cougar Town" co-creator Blake McCormick.

According to the outlet, the pilot episode will, essentially, re-tell the story behind the 1998 film, which stars Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker. Once again, the the story will pair a loudmouthed LAPD officer with a more reserved representative of the Hong Kong police.

Lawrence is best known as the creator of "Scrubs," and also has co-creator credits on "Spin City," "Clone High" and the currently-airing "Ground Floor". He also serves as executive producer on NBC's "Undateable" and will do the same on "Rush Hour" alongside Arthur Sarkissian and the big screen trilogy's helmer, Brett Ratner.

Rush Hour - Bill Lawrence/Brett Ratner Team-Up to Bring the Movie to TV

‘Rush Hour’ To Be Remade As Action Series From Bill Lawrence & Brett Ratner

by Nellie Andreeva

A big series project is about to hit the markeplace — a Rush Hour hourlong action comedy based on the blockbuster movie franchise. I’ve learned that Warner Bros. TV has closed deals for the project, which will be co-written/executive produced by one of studio’s top showrunners, Bill Lawrence. The movie franchise’s director Brett Ratner and producer Arthur Sarkissian will serve as executive producers.

Written by Cougar Town co-creator Lawrence and the series’ executive producer/showrunner Blake McCormick, Rush Hour is expected to stay close to the premiere of the original movie, with a stoic, by-the-book Hong Kong police officer, played in the features by Jackie Chan, assigned to a case in Los Angeles, where he’s forced to work with a cocky black LAPD officer, originally played by Chris Tucker, who has no interest in a partner.

Produced by Warner Bros. subsidiary New Line Cinema, Rush Hour was a sleeper hit when it came out in 1998, launching a successful three-movie franchise that has grossed more than $500 million domestically and more than $845 million worldwide. (Below is the trailer foe the original movie). There had been a lot of talk about doing another sequel, with Chan indicating as recently as last month that Warner Bros. was still interested in doing a fourth Rush Hour film, but there is nothing actively in the works.

Rush Hour, from WBTV and Lawrence’s studio-based Doozer, marks a second big project for Doozer this season. A comedy from Tommy Johnagin, Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker recently landed a pilot production commitment from CBS. The ICM Partners-repped company also has series Undateable on NBC as well as Cougar Town and Ground Floor on TBS.

Before joining Cougar Town, McCormick, repped by UTA and Kaplan Perrone, worked on Fox’s King Of The Hill.

Rush Hour joins another big movie title, Minority Report, which was sold as a series to Fox with a put pilot commitment.

Never really cared much about the movies, but I love Bill Lawrence, so we'll see.

Assassin’s Creed Identity

Assassin’s Creed Identity Announced

Ubisoft just can't stop making new Assassin’s Creed games. The all-new game Assassin’s Creed Identity is coming to the iPhone and iPad. It's the first mobile game in the franchise that emulates the 3D, open-world gameplay of its console, PC, and Vita counterparts. It doesn’t look quite as good, this is a mobile game after all, but it does have all the familiar combat, climbing, missions, and customization that fans love. Hopefully it will work with Mifi controllers. Assassin’s Creed Identity has already been released in Australia and New Zealand, with Ubisoft soft-launching it in those countries as a way of testing it out and getting feedback. The final version will make its way to North America and other territories in 2015.

Don’t forget that the all-new console games, the next-gen Assassin’s Creed Unity and the last-gen Assassin’s Creed Rogue, will both launch on November 11.

Michael Phelps Arrested for 2nd DUI

Quote:

Olympic swimming star was pulled over by Maryland police early this morning and arrested on a DUI charge, TMZ reports. He was apparently stopped by officers around 1:40 a.m. in a white Range Rover, driving 84 in a 45 zone, and allegedly failed a field sobriety test with a BAC of almost twice the legal limit.

This is Phelps' second DUI arrest—his first was in 2004 when he was 19. He copped a plea deal with fines and 18 months probation. "I recognize the seriousness of this mistake," Phelps said at the time in court. "I've learned from this mistake and will continue learning from this mistake for the rest of my life."

Phelps has already been released.

Discussion: Democracy in Hong Kong

http://ift.tt/ZmqT5t

http://ift.tt/1vqRSqz

Briefly….

When Hong Kong was handed back to the Chinese government in 1997, a promise was made that Hong Kong would be semi-autonomous for 50 years, except with regards to international affairs. This meant a continued free press, free elections and self-rule.

However, China is now reneging on its promise. HK will have elections in 2017, but the candidates are being chosen by the PRC. That means the candidates will be pro-China and could bring HK closer in align with China, including its restriction of free speech, free media and domestic policy.

This isn't sitting well with the youths of HK who grew up under a free, democratic system more in line with Western governments, and they resent the repressive hand of China attempting to rewind the clocks. They want to choose their own candidates, as they were promised they would. So to show their anger, they are engaging in the largest civil disobedience protest China has seen since the Tiananmen Square protests in 1989. The HK police are attempting to disperse the sit-in with tear gas and blockades, but China is threatening to send in its actual government troops, which has everyone worried about Tiananmen redux happening, with PRC tanks and troops invading the financial district in Hong Kong. I don't see the students leaving, unless they're forced by probably lethal or near-lethal means, and I don't see China giving in either. This could turn very bad.

Thoughts….?

spiderman in the MCU rumors

so i was thinking we should have some fun posting some silly rumors about spiderman in the MCU or the typically unneccessary rumor of him in the avengers. it all happened back then during TASM and The Avengers production and it happened again during TASM 2's production. it was fun to read so i figured let's have fun with it while the spiderman franchise is in production as well as other movies from the MCU.

Battery not charging

So I have an Acer Aspire 5742 series and the other day the battery stopped charging with a notice to replace it. I kept it plugged in, I ordered a new one, this morning I got that in the mail and swapped them. Now the new one isn't charging but the notice to replace it is gone.

Any idea what's goin on? I've removed and replaced he battery several times, but still no dice.

Col. Chester Phillips

I know getting Tommy Lee Jones to be in a tv series seems pretty unlikely, but if anyone can do it, its Marvel. Since Col Phillips has been shown to be a founder of S.H.I.E.L.D in the bunker in TWS, it would be kind of weird if he was completely absent in Agent Carter.

I'm not expecting a huge presence, even just a couple of episodes before biting the dust would suffice.

Which map of Gotham is the tv series using?

Obviously this is pre-No Man's Land. But I'm not sure what map are they using? The one from the comicverse (and which DC universe?) or the movieverse one from Nolan's "Begins/TDK"?

Howard the Duck one-shot

I may be the only person who would want this, but I think some sort of animated short featuring Howard would be a great one-shot to go onto the Guardians blu-ray.

I understand his cameo was only a joke, and he most likely will never appear again anytime soon, but if Marvel has proven anything it's that no property or idea is to out-there for them to tackle. I'd love some short, quirky cartoon that explains how he went from Duck-world into the hands of the Collector.

Would anyone else be interested in this, or am I alone here?

Supergirl TV show idea

A lot of people have said that it will be hard to introduce Supergirl without also having superman on the TV screen. My idea is a wild one, what are the chances of Tom Welling coming in (as Clark Kent from Smallville) just for the first few episodes until the audience are comfortable with Supergirl and occasionally coming back and crossing over (kinda like flash and arrow only without Smallville).

A potential problem with this idea is would the fans of all things DC and the general audience be fine with a different superman on the big screen than on a TV show. Who knows. Let me know what you think of this idea and share if you have any of your own.

Denny O'Neil quote

Quote:

Yeah! That’s why I was invited back to be a guest of honor at San Diego (Comic-Con this year) after only 3 years. Yeah. Anyway … comics were about 25 years old by that point and these guys — the original guys — were really groping. There was nothing for them to imitate except comic strips, which, as Will Eisner has demonstrated again and again, is a different animal than comic books! So I thought we’d just add to that original “Case of the Chemical Syndicate” (from Detective Comics #27) what the world had learned about comic books and I believed that, until I got the job of editing Batman and went back and did the homework. Everything that Neal and I did was implicit in Bill Finger’s (Detective Comics #33) Batman story, the flashback to where Bruce Wayne sees his parents killed. That was there and what we did was gloss and clarify and elaborate on that. origin-in-dc-33

However, the early comic book guys didn’t pay much attention to it. Eleven issues after the debut, they introduced Robin and at that point Batman became a father figure or at least the big brother you wished you had. Later writers added conflict between them. By 1945, Batman was carrying a platinum police badge. The stuff I read, he never showed it. You took his word for it. (Dan laughs) So that made him an establishment figure. So what we did was, on my part, a false memory. It was what I thought I should be remembering! I have to keep emphasizing, without what Bill Finger wrote, I would not have written what I wrote. It’s just that there were no such things as bibles or franchises back then. Those guys were really ad-libbing it.

Original Batman was not haunted by the death of his parents.

VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

State your unpopular Batman related opinion

Got any unpopular opinions about the caped crusader? It could be the movies, the comic books (overrated stories, writers, popular artists you don't like), the animated series, toys or Batman as a character. Here's my list (I'll probably add more later):

1. This is probably one of my biggest problems with Batman; he's the master of all martial arts known to man. I'm sorry, but "that's a lot of fish"!:o it's impossible. Do they even know how much work it takes to master just one style? I think it would have been better if Batman mastered two or three martial arts (karate, judo and krav maga or something), and knew a few moves from the rest.

2. Batman comics were better and more interesting before. The new stuff is just ugly and unappealing. Batman punching Dick Grayson? Joker cutting off his own face? Skinning people alive? And this is supposed to be "adult"? No, it's "15 year old boy drawing penises and dirty words on public toilet walls".

I don't know when they started to decline in quality, but it was probably in the late eighties or early nineties?

3. I don't like the modern psycho-Batman. It's like they're trying to outdo Frank Miller...I don't mind it in The Dark Knight Returns, but I don't want the "regular" Batman to be that way.

"Batman should never, ever kill! He's no better than the badguys if he does that...he should just torture his enemies, break some bones or cripple them for life!"

The ideal Batman for me is how he's portrayed in Batman: The Animated Series, he's dark and serious, but acts like a hero. Even the gory comics by Alan Grant and Norm Breyfogle potrayed Batman as a heroic character.

4. Catwoman's classic costume (purple, green cape, long hair) looks better than the new one. I think the new one is boring.

5. The batsymbol looks better with a yellow oval behind it.

6. Grant Morrison's Arkham Asylum is boring, ugly and pretentious. One of the worst Batman stories I have read. But most of Morrison's Batman stuff is bad.

7. I don't think Year One is the best origin story. Don't get me wrong, I love the story...but I prefer Len Wein's "The Untold Story of Batman".

8. I don't think Ben Affleck is a bad choice for Batman, but I believe he's in the wrong kind of Batman movie. Looks like we're going to get Frank Miller's scary old fart in tights on the big screen. As a eleven year old, this would have been a dream come true...today, it's just sad.

I wish Snyder could grow up...women with guns, dressed up as schoolgirls? Naked guys with big muscles, yelling a lot? Mass civilian deaths? "Badass" psychopaths? "Cool" slow motion fight scenes with lots of gore? Unnecessary and cheesy sex scenes?

9. There should never be a Batman movie rated R, with graphic violence, profanity and sex scenes. Watch "Mask of the Phantasm". It's the best Batman movie out there...dark, serious, scary, romantic, tragic, action packed, and it's rated PG.

One of the things I love about Nolan is how he deals with violence in his Batman trilogy. We never really see the gruesome stuff, it happens off-screen. But we still think the pencil scene is horrific (I actually think the pool cue scene is worse. I'm glad we didn't see what happened there). We don't need to see blood spurt everywhere, or Batman's naked butt when he's rolling on the floor with Talia.

10. I hope someone will make a "lighter" Batman movie in the future. I'm not talking about Batman & Robin 2: The Case of the Missing Rubber Butt, but I imagine something like the Iron Man movies. A fun action-adventure movie with OTT action, villains like Man- Bat or Clayface, giant props and a healthy dose of humor. Keep the blue and gray costume!:woot:

question about watching old 4.3 TV programs on HDTVs

So I have a Bluray player and an HDTV flat screen which are hooked with an HDMI cable so whenever I'm watching a normal movie whether its aspect ratio is 1.85 or 2.35 the image fills the screen nicely but whenever I watch an old TV show on DVD which were filmed in 4.3 the image gets stretched out making everybody look squat and short.

I already switched the settings on my Bluray back and forth between ratios and it still doesn't work, I know this many not be an issue but I don't like seeing old 4.3 shows stretched out.

The only idea I've considered is instead of using an HDMI cable just use ordinary red/yellow audio/video cables.

Anybody know what I'm talking about?

PROPOSAL: Age of Wonders- an Original Superhero RPG

Screenname of the Proposed RPG’s Game Master: Andy C.

How will the overall layout of the RPG be?: It's an ongoing RPG set in an original universe, where players can create their own heroes and villains from scratch. Unlike the previous Create-A-Hero game, however, where superhumans were a relatively new development, in this game superheroes and villains have been a common occurrence since the 1930s. There's a legacy at work that spans generations, one that's shaped the course of human history, and one which players can actively take part in, or dismiss to create a legacy of their own.

Premise of the Game:

It's been seventy-six years since the world was turned on its head. Seventy-six years since the arrival of Ultiman, and the formation of the Seven Wonders. In that time, the world has changed almost completely.

It is difficult to imagine what life was like back before flying strong-men and hooded vigilantes filled our skies and patrolled our rooftops, before insurance providers had to start offering coverage for "acts of supervillainy."

Back before the titanic battles between the Seven Wonders and the sinister Shadow Society.

Before the horrors of World War II and the hordes of Nazi undead, before the UFO crash of '47 spread the extraterrestrial Genomorph virus across the world and turned 2% of the human population into unpredictable mutants.

Before the radioactive monster known as "Big Z" leveled Tokyo and claimed the Pacific as its hunting grounds. Before the world-famous adventurer Johnny Ransom, son of the legendary "Handsome" Jack Ransom, accompanied Neil Armstrong on the Apollo 11 and found the Dimensional Nexus on the dark side of the moon.

Before the Infinity War of 1986, culminating in Ultiman and his arch-rival Doctor Bedlam disappearing forever in the wash of the Multiverse.

It's been seventy-six years since people first looked up in the sky in awe, and a new generation of heroes has risen in the places of the old. Some of them don the masks and capes of their forebears, carrying on a legacy that spans decades. Others have set out to carve out a legacy of their own. And with these new heroes, a slew of new villains and threats emerges to challenge them.

A new Age of Wonders has begun.

What will this RPG bring to the RPG forums? (please write two complete sentences): Like CAH, it will give players the opportunity to flex their creative muscle and craft characters out of whole cloth. However, it will also give them plenty of history to utilize, and give us the feel of a lived-in world with the same kind of deep history and lore of DC or Marvel, but without the museum-like 'custodian' feel of dealing with actual comic legacies. More than anything, it will give us a new playground to have fun in.

Example Of Character Application:

Age Of Wonders, Volume I:

Character Application

Player's Screenname:

Character's Name: (Please include the font and color you wish to use for the character's dialogue)

Alignment: (Good, Evil, Neutral)

Approximate Power "Level": (Street/City Level, National Level, International Level, Cosmic Level)

Brief Description of Character's Powers:

Character's Origin:

Personality Traits: (Describe how the character acts in roughly 2-3 sentences)

Ideal: (Sum up the core "theme" the character follows in one word)

Bond/s: (Things, places, people, that the character has a strong attachment to)

Flaw/s: (Personality traits, physical weaknesses, anything that might hamper the character)

Please provide a small sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contain at least one line of dialogue)

hi ever since Obama got elected the first time i i have been seeing something that i just cant understand some of his critics seam too bash or hate him on a regular basis. no matter what everything he does is wrong. and when ppl cant attack him anymore on the Issues they turn too fear: "we don't have too change anything in our society, we are just fine the way we are" they seam too say if he is weak on fighting wars then they call him un american undecided or worse. is it just possible that those who are against him or his ideas for america

on any level will use the public's own fear of what could be or the terror in the world today, as in excuse for not wanting any change at all. like wanting any change or better yet a chance for it. will be called a "chance too impose change" rather then a Opportunity for it.

Spidey, F4, and X-Men replaced in MCU?

It seems to me that Marvel have decided to write off their characters being held (hostage?) by other studios: Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men. Why do I say this? Because they are actively trying to "replace" them in the MCU with similar characters. Take a look.

Spider-Man: A quirky, superhero with bug based powers. MCU's answer: Ant-Man

Fantastic Four: A dysfunctional family/team of cosmic traveling superheroes. MCU's answer: Guardians of the Galaxy

X-Men: A group of genetically unique and incredible individuals hidden within the population. MCU's answer: The Inhumans

I think this strategy is brilliant on Marvel's part. It's clear that Fox and Sony won't let the rights revert so it's time to move on without them. What better way than to make these characters unnecessary and/or redundant in the MCU. Besides Marvel excels at introducing new characters to the audiences. So the lack of "character star power" is not an issue here.

So far they've rocked it with GOTG and they are seemingly building an impressive Ant-Man. We'll see when they announce The Inhumans. Thoughts?

Post-credits predictions

As we anxiously await the first trailer, I thought I'd skip ahead to the post credits stingers and find out what everyone thinks will be teased. While GOTG and IM3 didn't set up any future films (although I think that Stark/Banner scene will end up having more relevancy than was first thought), a movie as potentially big as AoU will surely help set up SOMETHING. The question is: which one?

1) Ant-man. It's the next film to be released and could certainly use a little extra exposure to members of the GA who normally wouldn't pay attention to a character called 'Ant-man'. Of course, a surprise Michael Douglas cameo in AoU could eliminate the need for this.

2) Cap 3. It's next on the schedule. Could there be a scene involving a certain fictional African nation? Or a Winter Soldier sighting?

3) Dr. Strange. It will barely be in production by the time AoU comes out, and even though it's had its share of pre-production publicity with Johnny Depp/Jared Leto/Joaquin Phoenix casting rumors, it's still one of Marvel's lesser known properties.

4) Hulk in GOTG2 reference (if rumors prove to be true).

5) Inhumans (if Vin Diesel's Facebook posts mean something).

6) Other (Thanos in A3, Daredevil, etc.)

ABC's "Black-Ish"

Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Laurence Fishburne star in this sitcom. An advertising executive (Anderson) and his physician wife (Ross) move to a predominately white suburb on the eve of the husband's new promotion. Wackiness ensues.

Just based on the pilot, it's cool so far. I had already seen lots of the jokes/punchlines from the preview clips/ads, so I wasn't surprised by a lot. I was amused, if not fall-on-the-floor-laughing. But I hope that it maintains its momentum to be a fun sitcom that manages to make some social observations on race/class along the way. Looks like Anderson's character works at an advertising agency. So it looks like there's lots of opportunity for satirical ads to be created in-show.

..Seems like too many kids, with four. But hey, we'll see.

Rainbow: "...let's have some white yogurt.."

Jack & Diane (Youngest two): "Yayyyy!!!!" :o (just plain yogurt? at their age? bleh..)

The Andre/'Andy' sequence kind of fell flat with me. An alternate scenario could have been amusing, say if the son's name were spelled phonetically, and got detention for mouthing off to a classmate (or a teacher?) who initially insists that his name is "spelled wrong" ("Andray"!?!?!) Or maybe they could have called him Deondre and made a recurring joke among all the suburban-folk who ask him what the "D" stands for... (never mind, I'm spitballing..) ;)

...I'm not sure if the Fishburne character lives in the family home or not.

I dug the aside when Andy's friend casually starts fishing through the refrigerator, to dad's consternation...

... we haven't seen Rainbow's parents yet (wonder which parent is black? Heh.)

side observation for future shows:

Pops (Fishburne): "we're black, not African... they don't like us, no-way..."

maybe eventually they can explore "intra-cultural" issues among suburbanized black folks; in Andre and Rainbow's social circle of color, is there anybody who's from an immigrant African, Caribbean, background, etc.? Do they even share Andre's "we're losing touch..." angst?

How many more Superman Solos will Cavill do?

Pennywise the Clown Laughing Alone, WITHOUT a Pizza

It's like... what does it even mean?

Im facinated by Captain Britain, recommended readinng?

***i misspelled reading* in the title, forgive me lol***

Hey guys. One character that has captivated my imagination for sometime now is Captain Britain. I've been meaning to ask but i always forget, but after reading all new invaders 10 tonight, in which he is mentioned briefly, it reminded me. I asked one friend at work, and he just laughed at me and acted as if i asked a stupid question.

My knowledge of him is limited to what i have read on his wiki page. So if anyone could build on him here, i would surely love to get some interesting info on Brian Braddock.

Also can someone please recommend some essential Cap Brit reading???? Id be willing to go back as far as the 80's and i don't mind hunting some stuff down as long as it doesn't break my bank. Some current stuff would also be really great, id love to see where he is in the somewhat current MU.

Thanks in advance! i really look forward to getting schooled here and finding out what to read!

new invaders 10, timeline confusion.

Ok, so this is definitely confusing. In this weeks issue, 10, cap and namor have a convo about cap not forgiving namor for his antics with the illuminatti. Now, i thought that cap got this revelation during original sin. And cap is old in the cap book, but hes young looking here still. Yet this seems to all be current events.

my heads going to explode lol

as much as i dig my books every week. Trying to work this all out in my head is a nightmare. At the end of the day i just say "hey its comics, whatever" but its really been bothering me!

anyone care about spiderman in the avengers?

because i sure as hell don't. i mean what's thepoint in adding him to the team in the MCU or the movie in general. he's not the smart4est since they have tony and whoeever else are on the team. he's not the strongest either. he's kinda quicker than them and more agile but overall spiderman was never a founding member of the team nor would it matter where he was during the invasion. where were the other heroes? what about daredevil , dcotr strange, moon knight, the F4, luke cage, iron fist, war machine, the new warriors, nova, etc.?it's the marvel universe full of every superhero and super villain imaginable. does it really matter that much where spiderman was. i mean spiderman is the most popular character but at the same time me nor shoulkd you guys ever give a **** about this. infact, even if spiderman or andrew playing him appearing in the avengers 3 the movie won't even break billions because of that. not even close. infact, he'll be reduced to a cameo leading to his latest tv series because that's where the character works best at.

anyone else agree with me on this? what are all your thoughts?

Will this movie end with a funeral again

What is this obsession with ending Spider-Man movies with funerals every movie apart from Spider-Man 2 has always ended with a funeral will they carry on this trend

The Legend of Legacy

The Legend of Legacy Looks Like Bravely Default, But Plays Differently. September 24, 2014 . 11:34am

The Legend of Legacy will feature seven different characters and a progression system that allows you to freely progress through the game, apparently with no set story path.

Quote:

Famitsu has shared the first details on The Legend of Legacy , the upcoming Nintendo 3DS RPG being developed by FuRyu in collaboration with a number of former Squaresoft staff. Screenshots reveal the game as a game that looks a little like Bravely Default in that it uses 3D character models over pre-rendered backgrounds with a hand-drawn style.

The Legend of Legacy will feature seven different characters and a progression system that allows you to freely progress through the game, apparently with no set story path. You’ll form a three-man party, picking three characters from the seven, and adventure across the island of Avalon.

As you discover maps throughout the game, more parts of the world will open up for you to explore. Designer Kyoji Koizumi says that his intention was to create a game without quests, where players would have to figure out how to progress by themselves. In order to provide a slight level of guidance, The Legend of Legacy will give you one main goal from the start, but beyond that, you’re on your own.

The world of the game is the aforementioned island of Avalon, upon ruins are scattered all across. As you progress through the game, you’ll uncover its secrets and the mystery of just who used to occupy the island.

The Legend of Legacy will be released on January 22nd, 2015 in Japan for Nintendo 3DS.

Who should survive Spider-Verse?

Some of us are fearful of our favorite Spider's not making it thorough the perceived culling. and a lot of the talk centres around those that may or may not be killed of. so i wrote a piece for a blog extolling the Spider-Men and Women who I'd like to see survive stating reasons why they should make it through, some valid some for personal reasons.

The suits' similarities

Forgive me if this has been started in a thread already, but I'm a longtime lurker and one issue has been gnawing at me for a while: If Batman has been in operation for so much longer than Superman, how will they explain why Batman's suit looks really similar in inspiration to Superman's, which is an ancient alien outfit?

I don't bring this up to troll -- I am seriously interested in if they will cover this somehow and I'll be fascinated if they pull it off with Snyder's "if this happened in real life" mantra. We take it for granted that superheroes wear these types of outfits, but in Snyder's universe, it's got to be an incredible coincidence that the world's two greatest heroes both wear skintight bodysuits/armor with knee high boots, belts, a unique chest emblem, and of course most notably, capes.

Thoughts?

How do I convince people that games are good for you?

How can I persuade people that video games are not a waste of time, violent or addictive, or any other bad thing? I'm surprised that we live in the year 2014 and I still encounter people who hold this view of video games. I think that video games are no different from other new media in history that was once controversial: writing, novels, comic books, radio, movies, television, Dungeons and Dragons, computers, the Internet, Harry Potter, and so on. Many earlier media forms were once frowned on as trash we now come to consider art forms or respected mediums. I would like to know is there a way that I can convince or persuade people that video games are not bad and can be benifical?

Neil Burger Takes All the Old Knives

http://ift.tt/1wK7Ywa

Quote:

September 23, 2014

Following the director's franchise-launching Divergent earlier this year, Deadline is reporting that Neil Burger has targeted a big screen adaptation of All the Old Knives, the upcoming thriller by Olen Steinhauer. Set for publication in 2015, the novel is officially described as follows:

In the idyllic town of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, two ex-lovers meet for dinner and to reminisce.

Celia retired from the CIA five years ago in order to raise a family, while Henry has never left Vienna station, still mired in that world of secrets and duplicity.

Among their memories is the disastrous hijacking of Royal Jordanian Flight 127, which ended in the deaths of all passengers and crew, as well as the hijackers.

It's a failure that haunts Vienna station to this day.

Henry has come to dinner to finally close the book on that seedy chapter of their history.

One of them is not going to survive this meal.

Steinhauer himself is providing the adapted screenplay with Chockstone Pictures' Steve Schwartz and Paula Mae Schwartz producing alongside Nick Wechsler and Roger Schwartz.

If they get two top class older actors like Julianne Moore and Liam Neeson this could be great.

The Flash Season 1, Episode 2 "Fastest Man Alive" General Discussion

http://ift.tt/1B9EqsK

Quote:

The CW has released an official description for the second episode of The Flash, airing on October 14.

The episode is called “Fastest Man Alive.”

BARRY HAS FUN WITH HIS NEW POWERS BUT A SETBACK MAKES HIM QUESTION HIS ABILITY TO BE A HERO —Barry (Grant Gustin) escorts Iris (Candice Patton) to a university gathering honoring scientist Simon Stagg (guest star William Sadler). When six gunmen storm the event, Barry changes into The Flash and tries to stop them. While he does save a man’s life, he passes out before he can capture the robbers, which frustrates him. As Dr. Wells (Tom Cavanagh), Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) and Cisco (Carlos Valdes) scramble to find out what’s wrong with Barry, Joe (Jesse Martin) comes down hard on Barry for taking the law into his own hands and risking his life. Barry realizes that it wasn’t six gunmen but a metahuman named Danton Black (guest star Michael Christopher Smith), who can make multiples of himself. Meanwhile, Iris becomes even more intrigued by the “red streak.” David Nutter directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Andrew Kreisberg and teleplay by Andrew Kreisberg & Geoff Johns (101).

The Flash Season 1, Episode 1 "City of Heroes" General Discussion

Quote:

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 7

SERIES PREMIERE

THE FLASH

“City of Heroes” – (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (TV-PG, LV) (HDTV)

THE FASTEST MAN ALIVE IS BORN — Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) was just 11 years old when his mother was killed in a bizarre and terrifying incident and his father (John Wesley Shipp) was falsely convicted of the murder. With his life changed forever by the tragedy, Barry was taken in and raised by Detective Joe West (Jesse L. Martin), the father of Barry’s best friend, Iris (Candice Patton). Now, Barry has become a brilliant, driven and endearingly geeky CSI investigator, whose determination to uncover the truth about his mother’s strange death leads him to follow up on every unexplained urban legend and scientific advancement that comes along. Barry’s latest obsession is a cutting edge particle accelerator, created by visionary physicist Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh) and his S.T.A.R. Labs team members, Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker) and Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes), who claim that this invention will bring about unimaginable advancements in power and medicine. However, something goes horribly wrong during the public unveiling, and when the devastating explosion causes a freak storm, many lives are lost and Barry is struck by lightning. After nine months in a coma, Barry awakens to find his life has changed once again – the accident has given him the power of super speed. Thrilled with his new powers, Barry learns how to control them with the help of Dr. Wells and his team. However, keeping his secret from his best friend Iris (Candice Patton) is proving to be harder than he thought, especially when Joe’s new partner, Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett), catches her eye. When another meta-human attacks the city, it’s time to put Barry’s new powers, and himself, to the test. David Nutter directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kresiberg and Geoff Johns and teleplay by Andrew Kreisberg and Geoff Johns (100). Original airdate 10/7/2014.

How Indiana Jones, Star Wars, and E.T. Share the Same Universe

Here's a full explanation of how this could be possible:

Quote:

"[I] loathe to validate anything about Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. But stick with me here; it's a little meta.

"Let's start by looking at things chronologically and diagetically, beginning a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away.

"The Star Wars happen. Yoda is a prominent senate member. Also in the galactic senate: representatives of the alien race that would eventually include ET.

"On earth:

"1936, China - Indiana Jones meets Lao Che in Club Obi Wan.

"1938, Egypt - Indiana Jones passes hieroglyphic depicting R2-D2 and C3PO.

"1982, America - Young Elliot befriends a stranded alien, ET, and shows him action figures of Lando and Greedo.

"The Star Wars, as a story, exists on Earth. As a story. But then, on Halloween, ET sees a boy dressed as YODA and RECOGNIZES HIM. So not only is Star Wars a story on Earth, but it's now confirmed as a TRUE story.

"We can see the story was laid out on the walls of the tombs and pyramids, thousands of years ago. This story eventually moved across the Asiatic continent, inspire legends and myths of lone samurai types defeating an empire, translating itself into lifestyles of the orient, and eventually, Club Obi Wan. Its universal heroes made their way into the cultural consciousness, eventually resulting in an epic film series depicting these ancient characters, ripping the story and images directly from the walls of the now well investigated tombs.

"So then, how did this story get here?

"The pyramids of the east and west were mysteriously built around the same time period by cultures an ocean apart. It's long been theorized that there was some sort of extraterrestrial intervention. This is confirmed by the presence of the aliens in Crystal Skull, their ship buried underneath a pyramid in Central America.

"Given these diagetic clues, I think it's completely reasonable to assume that the crystal skull aliens brought us this story, immortalizing it on the walls of the structures they helped us to build. Their gift was knowledge. Knowledge of the Star Wars."

X-Force Movie ... pick/predict the team.

If Cable's in it, he'll be "the new guy" in that movie so I doubt there will be too many other new characters on the team or it's gonna be all supporting backstory...

So who we got? ...

Warpath was in the last X-Men movie and he's been in Volumes 1, 2 & 3 so I reckon he's a safe bet, along with Deadpool and maybe Wolverine from the Vol 3 line-up.

Psylocke was misused in X3 and Fantomex isn't that well known so I'd rule them out, but with X-Men Apocalypse preceding it I'd guess that "Archangel" might be established by the end of that film.

Going back to the Vol 1 line-up, we've also just seen Sunspot and Siryn's had a cameo in the past, the former being more likely to appear than the latter.

Then throw in Cable and Domino (another mainstay of Vols 1, 2&3 and Cable's WildPack/SixPack prior to that)

I'm gonna guess at a team initially led by Wolverine or alternatively Bishop, featuring Archangel, Deadpool, Warpath, and Sunspot, with Siryn and Blink also being possibilities.

Then Cable & Domino initially appearing as antagonists facilitating some classic Cable vs Deadpool/Wolverine/Bishop action and Stryfe as the big bad, ending with a team-up that leads to Cable heading the team in a sequel.

Red Mars

Spike TV Developing Kim Stanley Robinson’s Mars Trilogy As TV Series

Spike TV is venturing into sci-fi with Red Mars , a scripted drama series project based on Kim Stanley Robinson ’s bestselling “hard” science-fiction trilogy about the colonization and terraforming transformation of Mars into a place where humans can sustainably live. The TV series adaptation, named after the first book in the trilogy, will be written by HBO’s Game Of Thrones co-executive producer Vince Gerardis . Robinson will serve as consultant. “The heart of this series tackles the question of what it means to be human — and can we sustain our humanity under incredible duress,” said Sharon Levy, Spike TV’s EVP Original Series.

The three novels — Red Mars (1993), Green Mars (1994), and Blue Mars (1996), which have won Nebula and Hugo Awards — are regarded as the best books written on the subject, and a holy grail for science fiction fans.

Modern Family's Sarah Hyland Files Restraining Order Against Abusive Ex

'Modern Family' Star Sarah Hyland

Ex-BF Choked Me

... I Fear For My Life

9/23/2014 3:53 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

"Modern Family" star Sarah Hyland just got a temporary restraining order against her ex-BF -- claiming the guy choked her, pushed her and threatened her life ... and her TV mom witnessed some of the abuse.

TMZ has obtained court docs filed by Hyland -- who plays Haley Dunphy -- in which she claims her ex Matthew Prokop terrorized her both verbally and physically during the last 4 years of their relationship.

According to the docs, Prokop -- an actor who once appeared on "Modern Family" -- pinned Hyland against a car during an argument about her outfit back in May and unleashed hell ... calling her "c**t, c**t, c**t" and choking her.

Hyland says in the docs, "His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life."

Sarah says she suffered injuries to her voice -- and had a "very sore throat following this event."

In the docs, Hyland says she knew she was in an abusive relationship -- and asked her TV mom Julie Bowen to come to her house to help "peacefully end the relationship."

Hyland says she had purchased a plane ticket to send Matthew back to his home in Texas -- but when Matthew arrived to the home and saw Julie (along with others), he freaked out ... "ran outside into the backyard and began screaming."

Hyland says Prokop threw a lighter at her -- and that's when Julie stepped in and told Sarah to get out of the house because she wasn't safe around Prokop.

In the docs, Hyland says Prokop also threatened to set one of her homes on fire -- and threatened that she would never see her dog again.

After Hyland broke up with Prokop, she claims he "relentlessly bombarded me with vile, threatening and emotionally disturbing texts and voice mails including his own suicide threats."

Hyland says Prokop entered a rehab facility in August -- but he got out on Sept. 21st ... and claims the director of the facility contacted her and told her it would be in her best interest to get a restraining order against him due to his mental state and attitude against her.

Hyland took his advice -- and an L.A. judge granted a temporary restraining order ... requiring Prokop to stay at least 100 yards away from Sarah and her dog at all times.

We reached out to Prokop and his people for comment -- so far no word back.

Jesus.... who would've thought?

He even appeared on the show. I wonder how aware the rest of the cast was...

What is the value of purism in adaptation?

I'm curious, what do the folks around here think is the value in staying as true to the details of the source material as possible over taking creative liberties in adapting it to another medium? Or, conversely, what do you think is the value in having artistic freedom in adapting a work over being confined to producing as literal an adaptation as possible? How much is too much when it comes to making changes from the source material, and if there is a limit for you, what is it and why is it a line that shouldn't be crossed?

I'm not particularly interested in debating people about what approach is better, I've had enough arguments like that on these boards to last me a lifetime or two, although if other folks want to start a spirited discussion about it they are of course more than welcome to. It's simply that I have found this issue to be the most divisive, multi-faceted, and ultimately important topic when discussing the merits of any given film adaptation and the direction that future adaptations should go in. So, I want to see what the people around here really think about this subject and why they think what they do, and maybe start a dialogue that explores it in some depth.

So yeah, what do you guys think?

Ultimate One Universe - Genesis: Sign-Up/OOC Thread

In the beginning...

The past age of the "superhero" died off with Captain America and the JSA. In World War 2, America's super-soldier, Steve Rogers, led a small group of heroes against the Axis Powers and helped the Allied Forces win the war. But Captain America was lost in covert mission, and presumed dead. Not long after the war, the rest of the surviving JSA retired from heroics leaving the world to fend for itself.

In the decades that have passed, humanity has seen the rise of an offshoot, Homo Superior, Mutants. Humans born with natural "gifts" that manifest around puberty, mutants are shunned by society and feared by normal humans, called "monsters" and worse.

It has been over half-a-century since the days of the JSA, and the world has seemingly forgotten all about their former protectors. But reports are starting to come in from across the globe of costumed vigilantes appearing in cities, stopping criminals and helping people in need. Citizen reaction has been mixed, some praising the new costumed crime-fighters for their good deeds, but most keeping quiet mistrust about the new capes, even fearing it may be a mutant plot to gain the human's trust before declaring war against mankind.

Whatever the case may be, the world governments have taken notice, and are paying close attention to what is being heralded as the New Age of Marvels.

WELCOME TO THE ULTIMATE ONE UNIVERSE

This RPG is based off of a player-created continuity dealing with a modern revision of the One Universe concept that combines the DC and Marvel comics universes into one, cohesive reality. There is no pre-established continuity. As players, it will be your job to take the basic ideas and characters of DC and Marvel comics, and reinvent them into however you see fit. Though it is your choice of how drastic the alterations should be, you are free to customize everything from a character's origin to motivations, identity, mannerisms, costume, powers, and world. Let your imagination run wild.

To apply for a character, fill out the application supplied below. If your application is rejected, do not despair! Simply rework what the Gamemasters tell you is wrong with it, or in the case of multiple applications, choose another character. All players are welcome, regardless of membership status or post count.

RULES

1. You may have up to 3 characters. All characters can interact with each other as it is, of course, the same universe.

2. You may choose any character from both universes, but no custom or Amalgam characters such as Darkclaw or Super Soldier will be allowed.

3. No Killing. Unnamed, faceless NPC's may be killed, but not major characters, or taken characters. Someone else may want to take up the character, or they may be important to another story.

4. You can go anywhere within the galaxy except planets already known to be destroyed, such as Krypton, although if you have the ability you may visit the ruins or asteroids.

5. You are your character, so act like it. Talk like them, use their dialogue. Do not exaggerate your powers, or pop-up here and there without explanation. BE Your character.

6. Several stories can be going at once, and you have the freedom to interact with other characters. If a PC doesn't wish to participate in a major event storyline, they don't have to.

7. You must post at least once every two weeks, though it is preferred that you post more. If you go two weeks without a post, your character is up for grabs. You will receive no warnings as it is your responsibility to keep track of your character.

8. Be serious, no slander, or impractical actions from your character. Example; "I found a crystal and now I own the world! You're all my slaves!"

9. If a major character is applied for, there will be a 48 hour period for other applicants. If there are multiple applications, the other players will decide who gets the character by casting their votes. Voting will be open for an additional 48 hours, with the player who receives the most votes getting the character in question. Less popular characters can be given out on a first come, first server basis.

10. Sidekicks and legacy characters will be required to be permitted by the player orchestrating the mentor's role in the UOU. For instance, if you want to play Superboy, your acceptance will hinder on the player playing Superman, and his thoughts.

11. Respect the Gamemasters. If they make a request of you regarding the game, listen to them. Failure to adhere to GM and Hype! Moderator requests will result in expulsion from the game.

12. Be creative, and do not be afraid to try new and exciting things with old concepts. This is a new continuity - the laws of the regular DC and Marvel Universes are not set in stone. You want to have Matt Murdock never be Daredevil and make the Man Without Fear a Green Lantern? As long as it's well-thought out, it's encouraged.

13. And of course, all regular rules of the Hype apply.
