Untitled intergalactic love story

STX Entertainment has announced the cast for their untitled intergalactic love story directed by Peter Chelsom and set to star Gary Oldman, Asa Butterfield, Carla Gugino and Britt Robertson, it was announced today by Adam Fogelson, Chairman of the STX Entertainment Motion Picture Group, and Oren Aviv, President and Chief Content Officer for STX.
In this modern love story about two galaxy-crossed teens from different worlds, Gardner Elliot, the first human born on Mars, is secretly raised in an experimental colony on the red planet after his astronaut mother dies during childbirth. Sixteen years later, Gardner begins an online romance with a girl living in Colorado and hatches a plan to travel across the universe to meet her. Now, on the run, with Earth’s gravity threatening his very existence, Gardner must race against time and nature to find his love and win her heart. Once united, the two teens venture to seek out the enigmatic billionaire who funded the original expedition to Mars, in hopes of uncovering information about Gardner’s mother and the mysterious circumstances surrounding how Gardner came into existence.
“This is a unique, well-crafted personal story set against an expansive landscape, and we are thrilled to be a part of this film and work with this enormously talented cast,” said Adam Fogelson. “The film has a completely authentic voice and the kinds of nuanced characters who are distinctive and truly memorable. We were drawn in by this story and its universal themes of longing for community and love. We can’t wait to begin shooting with Peter Chelsom and Richard Lewis, and the entire production team.
“I couldn’t be happier that this movie has found a home in the incredibly capable hands of STX’s world-class team,” said producer Richard Lewis. “Having this project in the care of Adam, Oren and such an accomplished group of executives, who have a shared vision for this film, is a dream come true. I am so excited to see Gary Oldman, Asa Butterfield, Carla Gugino and Britt Robertson bring flesh and blood to these dynamic characters in the hands of the incredibly talented Peter Chelsom. These are true breakout roles for Asa and Britt.”
The film, which begins production this fall, is produced by Richard Lewis. Excutive producers are Allan Loeb, Steven Pearl and Doug Urbanski, with Gabrielle Jerou co-producing. Based on a story written by Richard Lewis, Stewart Schill and Allan Loeb, the screenplay is by Allan Loeb, with revisions by Peter Chelsom & Tinker Lindsay.

What is Farscape?

Farscape features a diverse ensemble of characters who are initially escaping from corrupt authorities in the form of a militaristic organization called the Peacekeepers. The protagonists live inside a large bio-mechanical ship called Moya, which is a living entity. In the first episode, they are joined by the main character, John Crichton, a modern-day American astronaut who accidentally flew into the entrance of a wormhole near Earth during an experimental space flight. On the same day, another stranger is picked up by Moya: a stranded Peacekeeper named Aeryn Sun. Despite his best intentions, John does make a few major enemies; the primary of these is known as Scorpius. There are a few stand-alone plots, but the show gradually unfolds progressive arcs beginning with their recapture by the Peacekeepers, followed by John’s search to find another wormhole back to Earth, and an eventual arms race for weaponized wormhole technology. Secondary arcs explore the way in which the characters change due to their influences and adventures together, most notably John over his obsession with wormhole technology, his relationship with Aeryn and the neural clone of Scorpius that haunts him in his brain.

Lionsgate and Avi Arad's Naruto

This should be fun...

{TB EXCLUSIVE} “Naruto” Movie In The Works At Lionsgate With Michael Gracey Helming

Quote:

Another beloved manga is about to find a new life on the silver screen, as sources confirm that Lionsgate is moving forward with an adaptation of the mega-popular NARUTO, with emerging helmer Michael Gracey in line to direct. The studio recently closed the rights to the Japanese series written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto, which follows Naruto Uzumaki, an adolescent ninja who dreams of one day becoming the Hokage, the village ninja who serves as protector and leader, considered strongest of them all. Prolific producer Avi Arad, a self-described fan of the series, will produce via his shingle Arad Productions, while Erik Feig, Geoff Shaveitz, and Kelly O’Malley will oversee for the studio.

With over 200 million copies in print, Naruto has become the third highest-selling manga in history, generating an avid fan-base worldwide. Though it originally started out as a manga, the property has since been adapted into an unbelievably popular anime series, which has aired on the likes of Cartoon Network, Hulu, and Disney XD in the U.S. The series spawned ten feature films, with an eleventh, Boruto: Naruto the Movie, set for release next month.

Though he initially began in visual effects/animation, Gracey has now moved to feature directing, with a slew of high-profile projects in his wheelhouse. He’s currently at work on a new adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Witches for Warner Bros., with Alfonso Cuarón and Guillermo Del Toro producing. Gracey is also directing the Jim Henson biopic Muppet Man, Focus Features’ Elton John biopic Rocketman, and 20th Century Fox’s P.T. Barnum musical The Greatest Showman on Earth.

The development of the project doesn’t come entirely as a surprise, as popular manga series have proved tempting fodder in Hollywood. The Guest director Adam Wingard is currently working on the long-gestating Death Note adaptation for Warner Bros., while Scarlett Johansson’s Ghost in The Shell, which Arad is also producing, is moving forward at Paramount with Rupert Sanders directing.

However, it remains to be seen whether or not fans will accept Hollywood’s Naruto, as in the past popular manga series haven’t fared well after being churned out through the studio grinder. Take Fox’s Dragonball: Evolution for instance, which was met with universal disdain after it soullessly butchered its take on the immensely beloved Dragon Ball series. Fans can only hope that that grievous misfire will serve as a lesson for all adaptations to come.

Gracey is repped by CAA and Partizan.

1000 Italian musicians perform Foo Fighters' Learn to Fly

VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

As a Foo Fighters fan, I'm pretty awed by this, but even if you are not a fan of the band you will be impressed by the spectacle of seeing 1000 musicians congregating in Cesena, Italy and perform their song Learn to Fly. It took a year to learn the song and plan such an event from start to finish, and it was done to ask Foo Fighters to travel to that town and perform a concert there. Their dedication is quite monumental.

Should I Buy the Wii U or Wait for the NX?

I've debated for quite a while for which gaming setup I should have. I've decided on getting a Nintendo console for Nintendo's IPs and use a PC for other more "popular" games such as Tomb Raider and Bioshock. But with Nintendo announcing new hardware on the horizon, is the Wii U no longer a good buy?

I wanted to create this thread because of how far TV has come, when it comes to developing and writing female characters.

There is more diversity and a range of how female characters are presented on television and how audiences respond to them.

Who are some of your favourite female characters on TV?

The John Hughes of it all...

Regarding Feige's quote from a month back...

http://ift.tt/1fNsnxj
Quote:

Well, in spirit. At a press junket for Ant-Man over the weekend, Marvel boss Kevin Feige was asked about the company’s 2017 Spider-Man movie, which recently cast 19-year-old Tom Holland as the new web-slinger. If The Winter Soldier was a ’70s conspiracy thriller and Ant-Man is a heist film, he was asked by SlashFilm, what will the tone and tenor be of the new reboot? “Spider-Man will be a ‘John Hughes’ movie,” he said.

...

“We haven’t seen a John Hughes movie in a long time,” said Feig, according to Birth.Movies.Death. “Not that we can make a John Hughes movie—only John Hughes could—but we’re inspired by him, and merging that with the superhero genre in a way we haven’t done before excites us.”
Obviously referring the high school aspect of the film, but to what extent? I mean, yeah, only the first act of the first Raimi film took place with Peter in high school, but I was under the impression that ASM (which I have yet to watch in it's entirety) was fairly high school-based.

Either way, I'd be cool with seeing more focus on Peter's social circle than we've gotten in any of the movies I've seen, and less of it just being Peter/Love interest/Villain.

Rory McIlroy PGA Tour

Hey guys, I know there aren't a ton of sports games fans around these forums but I was hoping to get some input on this game if anyone has played it yet.

I very much enjoy golf games, they're challenging and relaxing at the same time. I liked the last PGA a ton and still play it occasionally on my 360.

Reading some stuff on this one and watching some YouTube videos the new one looks incredible. But I was reading that there's only something like 8 courses and 12 golfers, including no Augusta National. Has this lack of content been an early problem for any of you?

I was reading EA said they'll be releasing new content for free, but could never find any date. Would I be better to wait for that? Maybe I'll just rent it first.

Crazy Theory: Ben Affleck is Batman Jones

No doubt you guys have heard of the recent theory that Jason Todd is the Joker in Suicide Squad. Well, I've recently heard of another theory, that Affleck is not playing Bruce Wayne, but is actually playing Batman Jones.

Now some of you "newbs" may not be familiar with this character, so here's some backstory courtesy of Batman #108, written by none other than the legendary Bill Finger.

Batman Jones is coming, that's who!

And Batman Jones, natural talent that he is, solves the case before Batman and Robin.

Batman’s plan is to show him how tough it is being a crimefighter by using some of their old cases to test Batman Jones (with the idea being that he’ll fail miserably and quit, now knowing how tough it is being a crimefighter). Instead, the kid nails every test!

Thus, Batman is forced to do what no one ever wants to do – he tells on the kid to his mother…

My theory is that Affleck is playing an older, more grizzled "Batman Jones" who has returned to a life of crimefighting, and that Bruce Wayne is either missing or dead in this universe.

You'll note that in the trailers the name "Bruce Wayne" is never mentioned.

Also, in the trailers Batman breaks a soldier's neck, which "Bruce Wayne" would never do... but an older, grizzled, stamp-collecting Batman Jones just might.

Furthermore, Batman has been described as the "antagonist" of this film. What if Batman Jones actually is an evil Batman? Wayne Manor could be in ruins because Bruce Wayne is dead. And Batman Jones probably killed Robin and kept his suit as a trophy. After all, as you can see in the comics above, Robin was jealous of Batman Jones' mad skills. It makes total sense for Batman Jones to defeat Robin and leave a message mocking his namesake before stealing the cape and cowl once and for all for himself.

Note that Robin describes Batman Jones as "swell headed"? Has anyone seen Batman's head on those recent magazine covers? I rest my case.

CSI Cancelled, Farewell Movie Event Eyed for Fall With William Petersen and Marg Helgenberger Set to Return
By Michael Ausiello / May 13 2015, 6:29 AM PDT

CBS is sending CSI off into the sunset in style.

The network confirmed on Wednesday that the former juggernaut will end its 15-year run with a special movie event to air on Sunday, Sept. 27. Original cast members including William Petersen and Marg Helgenberger are among the CSI MVPS set to return for the swan song.

CSI was a breakout hit when it debuted in 2000, averaging 20 million viewers by the end of Season 1 and ranking among TV’s top 10 shows. In Season 5, it hit a peak audience of 26 million viewers. It also launched the spinoffs CSI: Miami, CSI: NY and, most recently, the just-renewed CSI: Cyber.

The cancellation writing was on the wall since October, when CBS trimmed the show’s Season 15 episode order from 22 to 18. CSI ended the year with an average audience of 8 million viewers.

George Eads Opts Out of CSI Finale, Forcing Last-Minute Script Revision
By Michael Ausiello / July 17 2015, 4:01 PM PDT

Turns out not everyone will be returning for this fall’s big CSI farewell, as star Marg Helgenberger declared at Comic-Con last weekend.

TVLine has learned exclusively that George Eads has decided not to participate in the two-hour swan song, forcing series creator Anthony E. Zuiker to excise Nick Stokes from the already-completed script.

While Eads never officially signed on to the project, I’m told Zuiker and his fellow producers were hopeful that the actor would reprise his role alongside fellow CSI vets Helgenberger and William Peterson (with more names expected to be announced soon).

It’s not clear why Eads opted out — production starts on July 29 in Los Angeles — or whether his absence will be addressed on screen. (I’m told the script did not have to undergo a major revamp since Nick — whose storyline was wrapped up in February’s Season 15 finale, Eads’ last episode as a regular — wasn’t critical to the central plot.)

Eads’ representative declined to comment for this story. CBS similarly had no comment.

“I’m excited… that all of us are going to be back,” Helgenberger told TVLine at Comic-Con (see video, below). “I think it’s going to be a really fun time.”

CSI‘s two-hour goodbye — tentatively titled “Immortality” — is set to air Sunday, Sept. 27 on CBS.

CSI Series Finale Cast: Melinda Clarke's Lady Heather and 11 Others Returning
By Andy Swift / July 17 2015, 5:19 PM PDT

Ready or not, it’s almost time to say goodbye to CSI. The long-running CBS procedural’s finale is slated to air Sunday, Sept. 27, and TVLine can now confirm more than 10 vets returning to the fold for the farewell fete.

Though we exclusively reported that George Eads will not return for the last hurrah, the following cast members — in addition to Marg Helgenberger and William Petersen — will appear in the finale:

* Paul Guilfoyle as Captain Jim Brass (original run: 2000–2014)
* Jorja Fox as Sara Sidle (2000–2015)
* Jon Wellner as Henry Andrews (2005–2015)
* Wallace Langham as David Hodges (2003–2015)
* Ted Danson as D.B. Russell (2011–2015)
* David Berman as David Phillips (2000–2015)
* Robert David Hall as Dr. Al Robbins (2000–2015)
* Eric Szmanda as Greg Sanders (2000–2015)
* Elisabeth Harnois as Morgan Brody (2011–2015)

But wait, there’s more! Melinda Clarke will also appear in the big finale, reprising the role of Lady Heather.

CSI casts Faking It star Katie Stevens for two-hour send-off
BY NATALIE ABRAMS

Faking It’s Katie Stevens has landed a guest-starring role in CSI’s two-hour swan song, EW has learned.

Stevens will play Catherine Willows’ (Marg Helgenberger) daughter, Lindsey Willows. Now in her early 20s, Lindsey is a CSI level 1 experiencing her first day on the job. Lindsey is described as an over-caffeinated, younger and bubbly version of her mom, minus a youthful mistake or two, who is on her way to a promising career. Lindsey actually nails down a key piece of evidence that moves the case forward.

If you’re a diehard CSI fan, you may recall that this is the third Lindsey Willows we’ve seen on the series. Madison McReynolds and Kay Panabaker both previously inhabited the role in the character’s younger years.

Stevens joins a long list of talent involved with CSI’s send-off, which includes Helgenberger, William Petersen, Ted Danson, Jorja Fox, Jon Wellner, David Berman, Paul Guilfoyle, Wallace Langham, Elizabeth Harnois, Robert David Hall, Eric Szmanda and Melinda Clarke. As EW previously reported, Elisabeth Shue will not return for the show’s series finale, which is being written by Anthony Zuiker.

CSI’s two-hour series-ender will air Sunday, Sept. 27 on CBS.
I haven't watched regularly in quite some time, but I have enough love for the early days that I'll be watching, especially with bringing Grissom and Catherine back.

At what point does the constant righteous indignation get to be a bit much?

Take the whole lion thing. I mean, yeah, it really sucks because it's a beautiful creature and the guy is a douchebag, but with the way people are talking on social media, you'd think this lion single-handedly cured AIDS, went back in time to prevent the holocaust AND solved every single crisis facing this country.

And then, even worse are the people going "Oh, you're upset about this thing? Well why aren't you more upset about THIS THING?!"

Outrage and self-righteousness is like a goddamn drug in the 21st century and I'm bored with it.

FOX's Son of Zorn - Animated/Live Action Hybrid Comedy Series

http://ift.tt/1OORuvP
Quote:

Jason Sudeikis and Cheryl Hines have landed starring roles in one of the most unusual comedy series ideas to come along in quite awhile: Son of Zorn.

Fox’s project is a hybrid of animation and live action (think Who Framed Roger Rabbit) about an animated fantasy warrior named Zorn (Sudeikis, SNL) who reconnects with his estranged live-action son Alan (Johnny Pemberton, 21 Jump Street) and ex-wife Edie (Hines, Curb Your Enthusiasm). Also on board is Tim Meadows (Mean Girls) as Edie’s live-in boyfriend and Artemis Pebdani (Scandal) as Zorn’s boss.

Here’s the official full logline: “Upon arriving home for the first time in ten years, an animated Barbarian father finds that reconnecting with his live-action son and ex-wife while suffering a mundane office job and the banality of suburban life is harder than waging actual war in his distant, animated world.” So you could say it’s like Roger Rabbit meets Conan the Barbarian meets The Incredibles.

The potential series is currently in the presentation stage and is from executive producers Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Seth Cohen, who recently proved that pushing the creative envelope on Fox can draw an audience with last season’s surprise sleeper success Last Man on Earth (which included a cameo by Sudeikis). Reed Agnew and Eli Jorne are the showrunners.
Lawd, I need to see this come to fruition.

2015 Fantasy Football advice thread

Figured I would start this thread for the new year with a couple of questions:

- After Luck and Rodgers, who are the next top 3 QBs I should be going after?

- What rookies do you think could have a fantasy impact this year?

When the newspaper's tenacious 'Spotlight' team of reporters delve into allegations of abuse in the Catholic Church, their year-long investigation uncovers a decades-long cover-up at the highest levels of Boston's religious, legal, and government establishment, touching off a wave of revelations around the world."

Heat vs. The Town

One is a classic heist film, and the other is also a very beloved Ben Affleck heist film. The Town is always compared to Heat due to some similarities, and I've seen some people say they prefer it to Heat.

Which one do you guys pick. Which heist film do you prefer?

Trophy Hunting

In light of the recent killing of a beloved lion in Zimbabwe, I thought I would start a thread about trophy hunting. I put it in the Politics section because the debate about whether trophy hunting contributes or detracts from conservation efforts has become quite widespread and I think it's worthy of further debate here.

So, what does everyone think? Does the money that people pay to kill endangered animals like lions, elephants, rhinos, etc actually go towards conservation efforts? Have we seen an increase in populations due to trophy hunting, or are more permits being sold than animals being saved?

You can read more about Cecil the lion here:

http://ift.tt/1D8lT77

Disclaimer: I'm not talking about hunting for food/supplies/sustenance/survival here. I'm talking specifically about trophy hunting as defined as :a specific and selective legal form of wildlife use that involves payment for a hunting experience and the acquisition of a trophy by the hunter".

Laptop Selection help

Ok fella's.. This may not be the BEST place to ask this question.. but I don't venture far from these here parts. :p

Anyway, I'm in desperate need of a new laptop. I'd like for it to be able to run games smoothly without hick up. I know when I say games people are going to say "just build a desktop.." which is cool.. but until we buy a new place I don't really have room to setup a new desk and tower.. I'd love for it to be a good (doesn't have to run at Ultra.. just a smoothly at 1080p) and be able to handle media, etc.

I'm also on a budget. I don't expect to get THE BEST for my budget but I figured I could land a decent laptop for 500... I'm willing to go a little over but I don't want to go over 600 if I don't have to.

I've been out of the PC game for quite some time... and this is the only place where I know I'd get a solid answer, more so when it comes to gaming on one.

Thanks

Donald's " Trump " Cards

1 ) He’s not a political prostitute. Like it or not, politicians these days are more concerned about campaign donations than the Joe average voter, and some of the donations are from over seas interests or corporations. Others are from nations or groups that hate us. Representing outside the USA interests over USA citizens to me is un patriotic, and both sides are guilty. In a debate, Trump can throw this knock out punch early and often. And his opponents know he’s got them dead to rights.

2 ) He’s not an insider. Congress has record low ratings. Politicians love to claim there are outsiders, but few of them truly are. Trump is.

3 ) He has next to no political record. This was Obama’s biggest asset as not much was know about his brief political career. As such he was harder to attack. While Trump has made several statements on the issues, you can’t call him to the mat on bad public votes. Everyone else has major blunders and flip-flops.

4 ) He’s uber successful and should do well on the jobs issue, which is a huge problem right now with record low labor participation rates.

5 ) He is one of the few candidates with the stones to be factually correct even if its politically incorrect to state it. And in many cases the majority of Americas agree with him.

6 ) His funding is unlimited.

7 ) He can recover from a mistake or take a political punch.

8 ) He’s famous. He’s very good on television and has a real presence about him. People vote for people they know. In my opinion Trump will do well with the low information voters.

9 ) His base is attracted to him, he does not have to work or oil squeaky wheels. A huge political advantage.

10 ) He is the most articulate in terms of change. They all say it, who means it?

As long as he doesn't run as an independent, I think he's got a real shot to be the next POTUS.

No reviews yet for the new FF movie? Hmmm I smell

No reviews yet for the new FF movie to be released on August 7th?

When a hyped movie get no reviews this close to release date you have to wonder why. Several of the other movies released on August 7th have Rotten Tomato reviews.

The Fantastic Four has not. What does this mean? The stench can be smelled from Mole Man's deepest pit? I think so.

Mother is swallowed by escalator

Quote:

Security camera footage has emerged of a mother saving her young son's life seconds before losing her own on an escalator in China.

The 30-second video begins innocently enough: As the escalator in a shopping mall almost reaches the top, a woman in a white shirt and black skirt lifts up her young son to get ready to step off.

But as she does, a metal panel collapses under her feet. She falls into the gap.

Chinese state media on Monday named the woman as 31-year-old Xiang Liujuan.

Struggling with only her upper body above the metal structure, Xiang is seen pushing her son forward. The boy is quickly pulled to safety by a mall employee standing near the top of the escalator.

Two other mall employees try to drag Xiang out, but within a few seconds, she disappears through the hole into the escalator shaft.

Despite a four-hour rescue operation at the upscale AZG Mall in central China, firefighters declared Xiang dead when they finally cut the escalator open and found her body Sunday afternoon, state media reported.
More info here Warning - CNN provides a video of the panel collapsing, but not the woman being sucked all the way in.

The Sentence

Neil Marshall Sets Futuristic Revenge Thriller ‘The Sentence’ Next

by Mike Fleming Jr
July 28, 2015 3:06pm

EXCLUSIVE: Neil Marshall, the feature helmer who has directed some of the most shocking episodes of Game Of Thrones, has found his next big-screen project. He will direct The Sentence, a futuristic revenge thriller in the vein of Death Wish that has a script by Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt. Marc Helwig will produce through Applebox Entertainment, the shingle that the former literary agent hatched with Marshall. EuropaCorp will fully finance.

Marshall already had a fan base from his feature work, but he stepped into rarefied air when he directed two battle-heavy seminal episodes of Game Of Thrones: the Blackwater siege of King’s Landing episode in Season 2, and Season 4’s The Watchers On The Wall. He’s best known for ballsy action films like Centurion, and visceral horror like The Descent, and also helmed the pilots of the Starz series Black Sails and Constantine, along with episodes of Hannibal.
Helwig, a lit agent in London whose moves to ICM Partners and Resolution and helped launch filmmakers including The Crow helmer Corin Hardy and Mama helmer Andy Muschietti, left the agenting game to form Applebox with Marshall. They’ve got a first-look TV deal with Legendary and are building a slate there.

Marshall is repped by Principato Young Entertainment’s David Gardner and Applebox by WME and attorney Carlos Goodman. Marshall most recently wrapped Tales Of Halloween, a horror anthology film that includes contributions from a number of filmmakers.

911 Dispatcher hangs up on woman for cursing

Quote:

An Albuquerque Fire Department dispatcher has been reassigned after he allegedly refused to help a distraught woman asking for assistance on a 911 call as her friend was dying after being shot, fire officials said.

In audio released Tuesday, a dispatcher identified as Matthew Sanchez appears to get frustrated by a woman tending to Jaydon Chavez-Silver, a 17-year-old who was shot by a gunman who opened fire into a house where a party was being held at around 10 p.m. on June 26, authorities said.

Chavez-Silver was pronounced dead at a hospital, and there have been no arrests, Albuquerque police said Tuesday.

Sanchez asks several times whether the victim is breathing, and the caller says, "He's barely breathing. How many times do I have to f---ing tell you?"

Sanchez is heard responding, "OK, you know what, ma'am? You can deal with yourself, I'm not going to deal with this, OK?" The caller pleads, "No, my friend is dying! I …" and the line disconnects.

"After learning of the alleged misconduct, Driver Matthew Sanchez was immediately removed from the dispatch center and placed on administrative assignment," Albuquerque Fire Chief David Downey said in a statement.

"An internal investigation has been initiated. As the Chief of the department, I am taking the allegation very seriously," he said.

Chavez-Silver was to be a senior at Manzano High School. His mother, Nicole Chavez, said in a statement to NBC station KOB that released dispatch recording confirmed rumors that her son was not given the care he deserved.

"We heard rumors about the 911 operator hanging up on the caller when Jaydon was shot but had no other information. After hearing the call today, it is heartbreaking to listen to," she said. "Right now, we just want to find the people responsible for this violent, deadly crime."

Police said at the time Chavez-Silver was shot that they had no motive in the shooting and no indication whether he was the intended target.

A police spokesman said Tuesday there are no updates in the case.

Nicole Chavez told NBC News Tuesday that she has been assured by the detective working the case that investigators have leads in the shooting. She said her son was starting football practice and had dreams of going to college.

"I think for a parent it takes part of you. It takes part of you with him," she said. "You are left with an empty spot in your heart forever."

A reward of $4,000 has been raised for information leading to the gunman, Chavez-Silver's family said in a statement.

Nicole Chavez said of this dispatcher, "I don't understand why he did what he did," and she hopes the call leads to training to ensure that it never happens again. "This call was not handled appropriately," she said.

Another Nosferatu remake is coming

Nosferatu Remake Reportedly in the Works

Count Orlok looks poised for a comeback.

By Jordan Sirani

A remake of the silent horror film Nosferatu is in the works at Studio 8.
Deadline reports the currently untitled remake of the 1922 classic will be written and directed by Robert Eggers. Eggers wrote and directed The Witch, which earned him the directing award at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. Jay Van Hoy and Lars Knudsen’s production company, Parts and Labor, will produce the film.
This wouldn't be the first time Nosferatu was remade; Werner Herzog's Nosferatu the Vampyre was released in 1979.

IGN named the original film's Count Orlok one of the most influential monsters in movie history, calling Max Schreck’s performance as Orlok "eerie and iconic."
In related, and more unfortunate news, the head of original Nosferatu director F.W. Murnau was reportedly stolen from his grave recently.

PC Green Lantern

A serious question hoping for a serious answer:

I do not have a problem with an American GL... Green Lantern was made by Americans, published in the U.S. and was supposed to be a superhero for the American masses. But as we now live in a PC world and since GL is supposed to be chosen among billions of human beings and is supposed to represent them in the intergalactic scene, and with the reality that there are people from other countries who probably are in a harder or poorer situation that takes more will compared to the situation that any of the GLs are probably in (I mean, Hal is a pilot, Kyle is an artist)... If you're a writer for the movie (or just the comics) and the movie is about the origin story of a certain GL.... how could you justify that this character have great will compared to other people of this planet?

From a Comedian to Batman's dad: J. Dean Morgan is Thomas Wayne, who is Martha Wayne?

Welcome to the official Jeffrey Dean Morgan is Thomas Wayne thread. We don't know who Martha is, but we may found out soon...

We have only see him in one scene but it was shot in IMAX and Snyder may have come with something badass. :sly:

I created this because maybe they will use him in the Batsolo more and for everything you expect for him (flashbacks) and what we see in future trailers and in the movie itself for Batman's father.

Will he be a doctor or will they change his profession, this and everything you want to ask and discuss about Bruce Wayne's parents, here's your place.

You can also place your theory on who is the actress we saw playing Martha Wayne. Many have said it was Watchmen's Dr. Manhathan first girlfriend...

The Badass boyfriend of an Angel... Chris Pine IS Steve Trevor!

So Chris Pine is Steve Trevor..

Quote:

Patty Jenkins is directing the comic book movie for Warner Bros., which will release the film in 2017

Chris Pine has closed a deal to play Steve Trevor opposite Gal Gadot in “Wonder Woman,” TheWrap has learned. Pine joins the DC Movie Universe in a multi-picture deal that includes sequel options, according to insiders.
A representative for Warner Bros. did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Steve Trevor will be no mere love interest for Gadot’s Diana Prince, as there will be plenty of action to keep him busy, though plot details remain under wraps.

There had been speculation that Pine was up for a role in WB’s upcoming “Green Lantern Corps” and that the “Wonder Woman” rumors were just a smokescreen, but that popular fanboy theory proved unfounded.
Patty Jenkins is directing “Wonder Woman,” which Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder are producing with Charles Roven and Richard Suckle of Atlas Entertainment. Jason Fuchs wrote the script after working with Warner Bros. on Joe Wright’s “Pan.”

Wonder Woman will be introduced in next year’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” before her solo movie hits theaters on June 23, 2017.
Pine is currently filming Justin Lin’s “”Star Trek Beyond” and will soon be seen in Netflix’s “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp” and Craig Zobel’s “Z For Zachariah.” Pine recently wrapped Disney’s Coast Guard drama “The Finest Hours” and he also has “Comancheria” with Jeff Bridges and Ben Foster on the horizon. He’s represented by CAA, John Carrabino Management and attorney Michael Gendler.

The future of all Marvel movies depends on ANTMAN!

I have seen ANTMAN twice now, and its clear to me that all future Marvel movies will be based on this movie. The revelation of the Quantum Realm will have a direct tie in to DR. STRANGE. The final shot with Captain America, The Falcon, and The Winter Soldier ties in directly to CIVIL WAR. Of course, ANTMAN himself will be the one who defeats Thanos in INFINITY WARS, because he will have to shrink into the Infinity Gauntlet itself to destroy it.

Jim Gordon- Dead, Alive, Retired?

It will be odd if he does not get some kind of reference in this movie.

I always wanted to see Kurt Russell play Jim.

Batman v. Superman: Which Abandoned Movie Are You Glad Wasn't Made?

When it comes to franchise reboots, Batman and Superman have seen more false starts than probably any other comic book character. While some abandoned attempts at rebooting the character made it all the way to film (Superman Returns) before WB decided not to continue, most of them never actually made it to the filming stage.

Which ones are you happy were never made? Which ones would you like to have seen (even if it's only out of morbid curiosity)? These are the ones I know of, though there may be even more.

Superman Lives - I still have yet to see the documentary on this film, but I think we all know that Tim Burton was to direct this film and it would have featured Nicolas Cage as Superman. Villains included Lex and Brainiac and it would have involved Superman dying and coming back to life. Oh, and polar bears and a giant spider.

Batman vs. Superman (2004) - Wolfgang Peterson was to direct this film (he ended up leaving to do Troy instead) and at least one report had Jude Law and Colin Farrell suiting up as the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight. After watching Mr Sunday Movies' AWESOME video summarizing the plot, I can say with absolute certainty that I'm glad this movie never saw the light of day. If that script had gone into production, it probably would have killed superhero movies forever.

Batman: Year One - For a long time (or at least until I saw Noah) I though Darren Aronofsky would have been a great choice to make a Batman movie. However, the storyline for this film supposedly differed greatly from Frank Miller's classic comic, and included Batman growing up in a garage with a mechanic named Al (this film's version of Alfred), at one point becoming a criminal and then fighting crime initially with a hockey mask and a cape. Still, it might have worked. I don't know.

Superman: Flyby - JJ Abrams' horrific Superman script that apparently got the character of Supes right and everything else wrong. To sum up, basically Krypton never blows up, Supes is "the Chosen One" destined to save Krypton (I guess JJ was watching Kung Pow when he wrote this), he's relentless pursued by Zod's inbred cousin Ty-Zor, he dies and comes back to life after Jor-El commits Seppuku, and then Lex Luthor turns out to be a f***ing alien.

Brett Ratner's Superman - I believe this was actually going to be based on the Flyby script, but Ratner said in an interview at the time that it had none of the stuff that was in that version. So maybe there was another script floating around? Matt Bomer would have likely played Supes had this film been made.

McG's Superman - Again, I think this was based on Flyby, though I'm not sure. Henry Cavill would have played Superman.

Batman 5 - Supposedly Joel Schumacher wanted to do third (fifth in the original series) film that would have featured a young Batman. I've heard it would have featured the Scarecrow (to be played by Nic Cage) and Keanu Reeves may have been in the running for Batman.

Superman Returns Again - Not sure what an SR sequel would have been titled, but Bryan Singer planned one out. It would have supposedly featured Brainiac as the villain and would have ended with Superman killing his own son. Truth, justice and DIE YOU LITTLE F***ING BRAT!!!!

Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time

DQXI was announced earlier today via a special Dragon Quest event in Japan for both the PS4 and 3DS. It seems, from what we know right now, is that the game will be similar to Ni no Kuni, which had a DS and PS3 version that were basically the same story but had several differences between them. Only the 3DS version was actually shown at the event, and the PS4 version is said to made with the Unreal Engine 4. It was also said they are considering launching the game on Nintendo's NX.

Borrowed from zenith:

Quote:

Square Enix announced Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time for PlayStation 4 and 3DS during its Dragon Quest press conference this evening.
“Additionally, we are also considering launching on Nintendo’s in development NX platform,” Square Enix said in a press release.
Dragon Quest XI is directed by Takeshi Uchikawa and produced by Yosuke Saito with music by Koichi Sugiyama. Both the PlayStation 4 and 3DS versions share the same story, but differ in visuals and partially in development teams.

The differences between both versions are outlined below:
PlayStation 4 Version
Version Producer: Hokuto Okamoto
The core development staff consists of a team at Square Enix. Because of the high amount of resources required to make the game, Square Enix is working with Orca on development. It’s being made on Unreal Engine 4.
3DS Version
Version Producer: Kento Yokota
The same core staff making the PlayStation 4 version is working on the 3DS version, with help from Toylogic.
You’ll be able to switch between 3D and 2D graphics as you play.
Square Enix is aiming to release Dragon Quest XI within the series’ 30th anniversary year. (The first game launched for Famicom on May 27, 1986.) Both versions of the game will be released simultaneously.

Upon their release, the Edge novels were advertised as "the most violent Westerns in print." As one Amazon reviewer put it:

"Edge kills and maims people left right and center and yet one is always left feeling like he is the smart almost good guy :-)"

Yup, that sounds about right for a Shane Black project. I mean, listen to this interview and tell me this isn't a match made in heaven:

Worst CBM villain

We've had a lot of villains over the years. Some good, some bad. But who are the worst? Just to prevent the poll from getting outrageously large, I'm limiting the choices to main Marvel/DC theatrical releases with the inclusion of other.

The Electra Woman and Dyna Girl Thread!

Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart fight crime with punches and puns in "Electra Woman and Dyna Girl." Video screenshot by Bonnie Burton/CNET
The first trailer for the "Electra Woman and Dyna Girl" webseries starring YouTube celebs Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart debuted Saturday at VidCon.
The original 1976 "Electra Woman and Dyna Girl" series from Sid and Marty Krofft starred Deidre Hall and Judy Strangis. The show aired 16 episodes as part of the kids series "The Krofft Supershow."
In 2001, the WB Network commissioned a pilot for a reboot of "Electra Woman and Dyna Girl." However, unlike the original show this pilot was written as a cynical parody -- and never aired.

This newest rendition of "Electra Woman and Dyna Girl" from Legendary Digital Media and Fullscreen follows two superheroes (with Helbig as Electra Woman and Hart as Dyna Girl) as they relocate from Akron, Ohio to Los Angeles in hopes of fighting crime.
Of course, it's not as easy as they think when they discover other vigilantes who aren't exactly thrilled with their arrival in the City of Angels.
In the new trailer, we see the dynamic duo punching bad guys, wearing colorful costumes, getting a Hollywood agent, perfecting their victory dance and driving a car that would even impress Batman.
This isn't the first time Helbig and Hart have teamed up. The two also starred in the YouTube celeb fest feature film "Camp Takota" and have appeared on each other's shows: Hart's "My Drunk Kitchen" and Helbig's "The Grace Helbig Show."
"Electra Woman and Dyna Girl" is due to debut later this year.

Thor Villains for Ragnorok and Beyond

I feel like Thor has among the strongest villains of the current Marvel studios characters. What villains would you like to see in Thor 3? What villains would you like to see in some future movie? What villains would you like to join Lorelei and the Absorbing Man on Agents of SHIELD?

In Ragnorok, I expect Surtur to be the main villain. But is there anyone else you want? The Midgard Serpent? Hela? Amora the Enchantress (and, presumably, Skurge)? What about for the future? Karnilla (a good way to bring Balder the Brave into the mix)?

My fear is this'll be the last Thor movie. Otherwise, I'd suggest even holding off on Amora (alternatively, cast Amora, but leave her alive and save her for a future role of lead villain).

Fox's James Murdoch, Disney's Bob Iger, and the coming superhero tsunami

In May, Variety published an article on a speech new CEO of 21st Century Fox James Murdoch gave at a conference:

Have You Ever Had a Manager Who's Had It In For You?

So, I'm dealing with issues at work with my store manager, have been for a while, and can only conclude that he has it in for me for whatever reason. I'm wondering if anyone here has had similar issues before and how did you ultimately resolve those issues, positive or negative. Thanks.

People should stop adapting 1980's properties into blockbuster movies, Yay or Nay?

Well I finally saw Terminator Genesys and it just adds more substance to an observation I've been seeing for a while now:

Stuff from the 80's like things kids liked for example seem to be more poorly received with each movie Hollywood throws at us. However stuff from the 90's, like say Men In Black 3 was reasonably positive as well as Jurassic World which is an understatement. And before anyone calls me out as a biased millennial, 60's reboots like the Planet of the Apes movies and 70's reboots like Mad Max: Fury Road killed it.

As for the 80's, we all know how people generally react when they hear the word Transformers now, thanks to Michael Bay. I believe Screen Junkies from memory pointed out that every TMNT movie sucks and then there's the Jem and the Holograms movie(Enough said) as well as the G.I. Joe franchise. As much as some people want to sugarcoat Paul Feig's direction, people are trashing the new Ghostbusters movie to the point where Paul Feig gets a death threat a day.

So because of this, a part of me is now strongly feeling that the decade is cursed and we should just stop milking it.

The only real anomaly I see to this are the Jump Street movies which have been mainly attributed to Lord and Miller's direction and style into making it so original it has no connection to the old TV show other than names, some actors and the basic premise.

So is what I'm seeing just a superficial correlation where it's just bad luck and there are other factors I should consider? Or am I onto something here?

How often do you buy new underwear?

Tom Ford recommends buying new socks and panties every 6 months.

Also, I bet there are a few on here who throw their panties away and just buy new ones instead of washing them. Lawd.

Who Will Face Off?

We know that eventually everyone will fight Apocalypse...hopefully.

But before that happens who will do battle?

I was thinking that many of the characters could potentially square off against Psylocke. If Nightcrawler uses swords in this film he and Psylocke should definitely do battle. I was also thinking that she and Mystique would be a great match up. Then another match up could be Jean vs Psylocke on the Astral Plane. We did see Singer and Sophie doing archery maybe a fight could take place in the Astral Plane with a bow & a sword or something.

I also imagined Scott and Alex back to back as Storm and Archangel circle them in the sky above. I thought about having Jubilee stand with them but it would throw off the whole brother thing.

What other possible match ups do you think could or would happen?

If you could create a Trade Paperback

Marvel has been publishing for 50 years. During that time, there have been a wide variety of stories. Some of those stories remain popular to this day, others have rightfully fallen into obscurity, and some are great but were never popular. Given this, collecting or even reading the stories you want can prove to be difficult. Thankfully, there are Trade Paperbacks, which collect the individual issues into a book form.

But the problem still remains that many underrated classics are still unavailable. So my question is this: If you could create one Trade Paperback (of reasonable length) of any Marvel story or stories, what would it be?

My suggestion is Don McGregor's Black Panther stories. Panther's Rage and Black Panther vs. the Klan are relatively available (either through Marvel Masterworks or Essential Black Panther), although fairly pricey these days. But his followup stories (Panther's Quest and Panther's Prey) don't have the same attention. Panther's Quest was printed as a backup feature in 24 issues of 8 pages each. Right now, the only way to get them is to buy all 24 issues (if you can find them). So my thought is to print a single Trade Paperback of those two stories together. Or, better yet, create a complete McGregor compilation with the first two stories in one volume and these two stories in a second.

Inspired By The Comicbooks

We've had two trailers and plenty to discuss. Which moments in the trailer do you believe are influenced/Inspired by a particular comicbook page, issue, story or cover?

For example:

This is really for those that read the comics.

Burning Question: Who will be killed in X-Men: Apocalypse?

Since Singer is already labeling this as a disaster movie and there will be a lot of destruction... I wonder if they plan to kill one (or more) of the characters to showcase how powerful and dangerous Apocalypse is.

Brain: Jubilee
Gut: Havok, Jubilee
Heart: Mystique

How could you adapt mystical marvel characters to the MCU?

Do any of you have ideas on how Marvel could adapt some of its characters with convoluted backstories to the MCU? There is a lot more acceptance of magic, demons, mutagens and other things in the comic books than appear in the MCU. Notably with Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, they went from "simply born that way" to being human experiments by Hydra (and they were noted to be the only ones that survived.)

I think I have an idea for the Black Knight, a character who is regularly either a foe for Ironman or a member of the Avengers or other teams.

In the comics, originally he carried a cursed sword that came from his ancestor, a knight who was killed by Mordred and had his soul stuck in the blade that was passed down through his family eventually driving them all mad. He generally wore typical knight gear. The curse was eventually broken and various things have been done with the character-- having him become part living metal, having him use an exosuit and having half a dozen other swords at various times.

However, if one sticks to his original conception and ignores much of the later stuff, I think it could be done.

Perhaps instead of a magical cursed sword, his sword could be alien technology. It could be a Kree or Skrull or Shiar training blade-- designed to be wielded by a teacher and record the teacher's actions, skills and abilities and then used by a student who once holding the blade, basically got all the benefit of the teacher through being trained by the imprinted memories in the blade.

The first of the family to find and use the blade was a knight in the middle ages who was noted for his skill. Maybe he got some benefit from the alien teacher subconsciously. It can be left vague as to how he actually died, but he died holding the blade. And when he did, something went terribly wrong. His entire mind effectively imprinted into the blade. It was returned to his family and passed down through the generations.

The blade reacts to only the members of that family and each member of the line has held it and practiced and used it to some extent. Instead of recording just one teacher, the passed on memories recorded a dozen generations focusing and improving, honing skills well beyond what would be capable in a single lifetime... but also being addicting and slowly driving the wielder mad. Usually they ended up murdering someone.

The newest member of the family could gain the blade after his father goes insane on a mass killing rampage. He is called to action somehow, some sort of enemy he needs to deal with for personal reasons and starts using the blade.

Later the "curse" on the blade could be revealed, but the skills he learned remain with him.

Its not enough of an idea for a movie and probably still too convoluted for a supporting character in one... but maybe it is an idea that could be used in the SHIELD TV show or something.

Henry Jackman returning to score 'Civil War'

This was confirmed by the Russo Brothers months before CA:CW started filming. I'm still wary about this, since Jackman delivered a terrible score for the otherwise terrific Winter Soldier. Bucky needed a theme other than terrible electronic droning... he's not Heath Ledger's Joker, for Chrissakes.

But... Jackman scored this weekend's release, Pixels, which is utter s**t but has an awesome score. So he still has it in him.

And referencing other composers' themes wouldn't hurt either.

The Quantum Realm and Magic Eye Books (spoilers)

I think a big discussion I'm seeing (one worth discussing here) is whether there is some character hidden in the Microverse as a cameo. I'd almost be tempted to say "no, we're trying too hard" and make the allusion to magic eye books I made above. That being said, Director Peyton Reed said, "I would say just watch out for something, maybe in the corner of the frame, something you might see also reflected in Ant-Man’s helmet."

I think speculation tends to go in two parts. One is that you see Janet, which would be possible from a story perspective. More interestingly is this theory that the figure we see is "Eternity." For the broader MCU, I think this would make a lot of sense. Eternity is a character who I could see be a big deal in Doctor Strange. More importantly, the use of cosmic entities could open the way for the actual incarnation of Death as Thanos's crush. Certainly, there's a lot of potential there if they have the guts to go down that route.

So what do people think? Did you see something hidden? Is Peyton Reed messing with us? What are your thoughts?

"Feel the Bern": The BERNIE SANDERS Thread

The mods have approved a thread for discussion about the 73 year old senator from Vermont and Democratic candidate for the 2016 Election, so here it is.

Do you agree with his ideas - such as raising the minimum wage and bringing reforms to Wall Street - or do you find them to be too far to the left to actually work? Does he have a real shot at the presidency, or is Hillary the Democrat to beat? Discuss! :)

Marvel Unlimited

First off sorry if there is already a thread about this or if it's to close to the recommendations thread. I have the marvel unlimited app downloaded on my phone. I've read through most of the stuff that interested me originally (xforce, some spiderman, deadpool, couple other things). Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of any good archs/events that are on there. I'm not to picky about characters, most that I have read I enjoyed and would also like to try out some new ones of they're well written. Also specifically interested in any good female superhero stories, as I've enjoyed a lot of them in various avengers/x books but never really read anything focused on them
