The sudden influx of screen adaptations of the one of worlds most popular folk tales that of medieval English outlaw Robin Hood is not limited only to film. On the heels of Deadlines story by Mike Fleming Jr. about four competing Robin Hood features in the works at four big studios Warner Bros., Disney, Sony and Lionsgate we have learned that there is also a TV series about the folk hero in development
FremantleMedia North America has acquired rights to British author Angus Donalds book series The Outlaw Chronicles, a re-imagined take on the legend of Robin Hood set during the reigns of Richard the Lionheart and King John.
Michael Konyves, co-writer of the action feature Last Knights starring Clive Owen, also set in the Middle Ages, will pen the adaptation, which follows Robin and his band of outlaws in Sherwood Forest, including a young protege he takes under his wing. As Robins mission turns from trying to raise money for his pardon to something much greater, he must confront the demons of his past, as well as protect those he most loves, including Marie-Anne, Countess of Locksley, the love of his life. The book series includes six titles: Outlaw, Holy Warrior, Kings Man, Warlord, Grail Knight and The Iron Castle.
In television, BBC America co-produced the 2006 BBC One series Robin Hood, which ran for three seasons. The CW took a stab at a Robin Hood series two seasons ago with the drama project Sherwood. The network, of course, has hit DC series Arrow, featuring a green-hooded archer comic book hero inspired by Robin Hood.
