Good Universe has optioned the life rights to Brittany Maynard, the young woman who was an outspoken advocate for medical aid in dying.

Maynard was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and given six months to live at the age of 29. She received a lot of media attention following the publishing of her op-ed piece "My right to death with dignity at 29" on CNN.com, where she candidly wrote about her wishes to end her own life when her quality of life had deteriorated.

Maynard moved from California to Oregon, where she could take advantage of that state's Death With Dignity Law. She ended her life on Nov. 1, 2014.

The topic of medical aid in dying is a contentious subject. The Brittany Maynard Fund was established to lobby for the right to death with dignity, working with politicians to legalizes a full range of end-of-life options.

Good Universe also has optioned the life rights of Brittany's husband, Dan Diaz, who survives her. Diaz will serve as an executive producer on the film, and will be heavily involved in its development.
