Potted Meat Food Product
For those who have not have heard of this tasty delicacy (or are cowards and afraid to click on the link), Potted Meat is an inexpensive, fully cooked and preserved flesh-colored meat paste widely available across the United States (I am unsure of it's presence elsewhere in the world). It occupies a similar culinary niche as Spam, Vienna Sausage and Deviled Ham, and is produced by a variety of snackmongers such as Armour, Hormel and Libby's. Potted Meat Food Product is borne from a combination of various ingredients, including but not limited to:
mechanically separated chicken
beef tripe
beef hearts
partially defatted cooked beef fatty tissue
pork skin
partially defatted cooked pork fatty tissue
meat broth
the hobo that used to live near the underpass on Route 9
water
the tears of an angel from the time of the Fall of Lucifer
vinegar, salt* & other preservatives
Intriguing, no? Would you like to know more? How about a picture?
Personally I don't even bother with utensils. I just scoop it right out of the can with Ritz crackers. Yum!
Here we have three wads of this salty treat, having recently broken free from their aluminum cages and photographed while escaping into the wilderness to start a new life. Will they breed out there in the darkness, far from the watchful eyes and tyranny of men? Who can say?
This fellow seems to be gazing back at us as it rests upon the cold metal prison housing one of it's kin. Is it trying to communicate with us? Perhaps it is merely observing, staring deep down into our souls. We can only pray that it does not find us lacking in honor or morality.
Do you have a particular cuisine you enjoy that gives your friends, family, coworkers and/or complete strangers the dry heaves? Share it here for the benefit and entertainment of your fellow Community members.
*Like, reallyreally salty. One tiny can has something like 1/3 to 1/2 of your recommended daily allowance of sodium. Ancient Egyptians used to mummify people in this stuff. True story.
