Disney Developing Live-Action 'Snow White' (Exclusive)

Disney Developing Live-Action 'Snow White' (Exclusive)

Quote:

'The Girl on the Train' screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson will pen the script for the project, which will feature new original songs.
Who's the fairest of them all?

Disney is ready to take on another of its classic fairytales with a new musical, live-action version of Snow White.

Erin Cressida Wilson, who penned the adaptation of The Girl on the Train, is in negotiations to write the script for the film, which will expand upon the story and music from the beloved animated classic.

The new film will include new songs, with songwriters Benj Pasek & Justin Paul, who most recently wrote the lyrics for La La Land, attached to pen the new music.

Marc Platt, who also is working with Disney on Mary Poppins Returns, is attached to produce.

Disney's original Snow White animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs came out in 1937. Based on the Brothers Grimm fairytale, Snow White was the first Disney animated feature film and a massive success for the studio. It won an honorary Oscar at the 11th Academy Awards and is considered one of, if not the most, successful animated films of all time.

There have been several other adaptations of the classic tale over the years, of course. The two more recent attempts include the 2012 film Mirror Mirror starring Julia Roberts and Lily Collins, and Universal's darker take, Snow White and the Huntsman, starring Kristen Stewart. Snow White also is a character on the TV series Once Upon a Time.

Disney has been on a roll with its new takes on its animated classics, including such successes as Maleficent, The Jungle Book and Cinderella. The studio's next live-action fairytale release, which also features another empowered heroine, will be Beauty and the Beast, starring Emma Watson. It opens March 17, 2017. The studio is also developing a live-action version of Mulan for 2018, and has brought back Jon Favreau to helm a new take on The Lion King. A live-action Alladin also is in the works with Guy Ritchie attached to direct.

Along with penning the script for Girl on the Train based on the Paula Hawkins book, Wilson also wrote the script for Jason Reitman’s Men, Women & Children and produced the HBO series Vinyl. She’s repped by CAA, Art/Work Entertainment and Schreck Rose.

Pasek & Paul are an award-winning Broadway songwriting team with their off-Broadway hit Dear Evan Hansen about to open on Broadway. They recently wrote the lyrics for the film La La Land, and are currently in production on the Fox musical film Greatest Showman starring Hugh Jackman, for which they wrote all the songs. They are repped by CAA.

Who do you think will survive until the end?

I don't know how further ahead the comic is so I don't want to start a spoiler thread but I never saw the comic.
Whenever this show ends I think (unless everyone becomes a zombie or killed of the group we know) that Rick is the only real lock to survive. After that I think his kid makes it. Then I'd say Carol, Morgan, and Micchone. I'd guess everyone else bites the dust. I think they'd save Darryl as the last and most gut wrenching death involving saving the whole gang.

Top Sony Executives Disillusioned With Film Chairman Tom Rothman (EXCLUSIVE)

Top Sony Executives Disillusioned With Film Chairman Tom Rothman (EXCLUSIVE)
Quote:

A series of personnel complaints and threatened defections by senior executives have raised questions about the leadership of Sony Pictures Entertainment movie boss Tom Rothman, several sources said — a difficult challenge for a studio already fighting to gain traction during a rough year at the box office.

Sony Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton and the company’s human resources department have fielded protests about Rothman from more than a dozen executives, according to an individual briefed on the showdown, who declined to be named discussing internal company business.

The unhappy Sony executives report that Rothman has made their lives untenable with his micro-management and obstreperous manner, which they say has also alienated talent agents, producers, directors and actors, many of whom are now loathe to bring their projects to Sony, the sources said.

Rothman was confronted with the charges of disillusionment with his leadership in a meeting last week with the company’s human resources department. The executives complained that morale has plummeted in the 20 months since Rothman was elevated from head of Sony’s TriStar Pictures label to chairman of the entire movie operation. “There is no confidence in his leadership,” said one of the sources, who declined to be named.

Rothman declined to comment. Lynton issued a statement late Sunday afternoon strongly backing his studio chief. “Tom Rothman has done an outstanding job in his efforts to restructure and turn around the Motion Picture Group,” Lynton said. “He has my full and complete support, and the support of SPE’s senior management and Tokyo.” The last reference is to the studio’s corporate parent, Sony Corp., headquartered in Japan.

Some insiders defended Rothman, saying that the complaints are the result of his urgent push to make a “sea change” in the culture at the studio, which has languished at or near the bottom of the box office standings for several years. Rothman, 61, was named chairman of the motion picture group in February, 2015.

Compared to the relatively laissez faire approach of previous studio co-chair Amy Pascal, especially on financial matters, Rothman’s tough, bottom-line mentality strikes some as abrasive. “There is an old guard of people who are, naturally, going to be uncomfortable with that kind of change,” said one insider, who declined to be named. “But it’s important that the change be made.”

Others who defended Rothman described him as decent and well-meaning, though sometimes oblivious to how his hard-charging manner is perceived by others. One insider also contended that the studio will soon announce that two top production executives are re-upping, while declining to provide details.

The internal furor does not come at a good time for Sony, which languishes in fifth place this year of the six major studios in domestic box office performance. This weekend’s “Inferno” — the “Da Vinci Code” sequel that was supposed to be a solid money-maker – collapsed at the domestic box office, its $15 million opening less than a third of the opening for the previous entry in the series.

Another big-budget film that under-performed: “Ghostbusters,” which scraped up $229 million worldwide, with production costs, alone, coming in at $144 million. The Sacha Baron Cohen comedy “The Brothers Grimsby” and last year’s holiday release, “Concussion,” with Will Smith, also tanked.

Fairing better for Sony were smaller films like the Blake Lively shark thriller “The Shallows,” which grossed $119 million worldwide on a production budget of $17 million; the R-rated cartoon, “Sausage Party,” which took in $135 million on a $19 million budget; and the horror flick “Don’t Breathe,” which scored $150 million worldwide on a trim $9.9 million budget.

One of the Rothman loyalists at the studio hoped that a comeback will begin, in earnest, with “Passengers,” a sci-fi romance starring Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, due out at Christmas. The Sony worker, who asked not to be named, cited a range of potential hits on the 2017 slate, led by the next “Spider Man” entry; the adventure fantasy “Jumanji,” with Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart; the Western/sci-fi mashup “The Dark Tower”; and a revamp of the 1982 hit “Blade Runner.”

Rothman’s previous tenure as a studio leader – at 20th Century Fox, where he was co-chairman with Jim Gianopulos – also provoked complaints about his contentious and domineering nature. His doggedness in ratcheting down salaries for talent also irritated some filmmakers and agents.

The objections are recurring at Sony, but without the buffer of the more positive results that Fox’s films had during much of Rothman’s tenure at the Pico Boulevard studio.

“When he left Fox, he told everyone, ‘I have changed. I realized I was a problem,'” said one individual close to the situation. “And, of course, when he came back to Sony he was the exact same person, and probably worse.”

The source called Rothman “the biggest micro-manager I have ever dealt with,” adding: “He thinks he can do everybody’s job better — from writer, to director, to producer, to business affairs to marketer — any position anyone would have on a movie — he thinks he can do better than they can.”

The complaints were serious enough that Lynton informed Sony’s corporate leaders in Japan. “There is apparently a reluctance to make a change quickly, so they are moving in a very deliberate way,” said one of those who would like to see Rothman ousted.

A top producer agreed that the harsh assessments extend outside the studio. “He lacks empathy. He is easily threatened. He doesn’t make people feel good about coming to work,” said the producer. “Certainly things are very strained.”

sounds like he is doing what he did at FOX but now at Sony LOL

Plus, Level-5 CEO comments on Switch support.

We haven’t heard much about Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom since it was first announced for PlayStation 4 at PlayStation Experience 2015, but Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino confirmed at least one new tidbit during a recent interview with Vandal.net: it will have a kingdom creation system.
“There will be many new features,

” Hino said. “From the fact alone that we moved from PlayStation 3 to PlayStation 4, it will not be a simple RPG, and will introduce a new system focused on creating a kingdom. So yes, there will be many differences.”

Vandal also asked Hino about whether Level-5 plans to develop games for Nintendo’s newly unveiled Switch platform.

Hino responded, “We plan to make games for Nintendo Switch, but I think it’s very important to find out the best way to get the most out of the console. For that reason, we won’t have any titles at launch, but we’ll work with it as soon as we figure out how to take advantage of it.”

Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is in development for PlayStation 4. A release window has yet to be announced.

A Rogue's tale episode of X-Men TAS

Another one of my favorite episodes and one that is quite emotional and well written.

This one deals with blocked memories of what Rogue had as she experiences bad flashbacks during a fight with Pyro/Blob/Avalance as she seen images of a woman she knew along time ago as Miss Marvel aka Captain Marv-ell (not to be confused with Captain Marvel aka Shazam as Marvel has their own Captain Marvel but pronounced differently) whom she absorbed her powers/strength perminately along time ago. Once she gets those images she finds the woman she put in a long time coma in a hospital with Mystique who has been playing tricks with her as she helps try to get her past back. She remembers how she kissed her first boyfriend when she was 14 yet he ended up in the hospital and how his angered father found out she is a mutant as she scolds her saying a line that hits you "You ain't my daughter! NOT ANYMORE!" as he leaves her and disowns her which was a powerful scene that hits viewers which some can relate to. She did runaway yet a woman (who was really Mystique in disguise) helped train her to control her powers to help alongside Pyro and Avalance yet didn't know she was gonna hijack Miss Marvel's powers which now she must deal with the inner-demons.

This episode is a nice Rouge origin episode with nice appearance by Captain Marvell (aka Miss Marvel) and has a nice happy ending as well. It really dwells into her troubled past and how she has to fight her inner demons that haunted her that were blocked out. Yet the ending was quite happy i should say and to make everyone know that Miss Marvel was ok.

Would you like to see Civil War II at some point?

Just like CA:CW really wasn't anything like the comics, CWII wouldnt have to be either. Also probably wouldn't need to be a "Captain America" movie. But at some point would you like to see another Civil War movie 5, 10 or 20 years from now?

In CA:CW we saw a total of about 12 heroes (two teams of six) going at it. By the time Infinity War rolls around we will have a plethora of heroes who weren't apart of the Civil War that would also have opinions about the Accords and various methodologies when it comes to saving the planet. Including but not limited to:

Doctor Strange
Ms Marvel
Daredevil
Luke Cage
Jessica Jones
Iron Fist
Punisher
Wasp
Not to mention Hulk, Thor, and Guardians of the Galaxy.

So would you like to see more Civil War action again on screen in the future?

Tom Hardy To Play Al Capone In New Movie ‘Fonzo’ From Josh Trank
Quote:

Tom Hardy is attached to play all-time American gangster Al Capone in Fonzo, a new project written and to be directed by Josh Trank. Russell Ackerman and John Schoenfelder of Addictive Pictures and Lawrence Bender are producing the pic, which centers on Capone in the final days of his life. The real-life Capone died in 1947 at age 48.

CAA and WME Global are repping U.S. rights and Bloom is selling international at the upcoming American Film Market.

The pic, now in prepoduction centers on Alfonse Capone, the ruthless businessman and bootlegger who ruled Chicago with an iron fist before being famously taken down by Eliot Ness. After nearly a decade of imprisonment, dementia rots his mind and his past becomes present as harrowing memories of his violent and brutal origins melt into his waking life.

Trank most recently directed Fantastic Four at Fox after scoring with his debut feature Chronicle. Hardy is next up in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk and Taboo, the FX/BBC One eight-part series produced by Ridley Scott due in 2017.

Trank is repped by WME, Management 360 and attorney Mitch Smelkinson. Hardy is with CAA and United Agents in the UK.

Discussion on the other sanctums

Spoiler for the first movie.

I thought the idea of sanctums in other cities was really interesting although a bit limited. Who do you think should run the other sanctums?

Stephen obviously has the New York one. I would love to see Agatha Harkness take over the London one (although I originally wondered if Brian Braddock could appear in the MCU and get that one). No idea about the Hong Kong one.

I also hope there's one somewhere in Africa that is run by Brither Voodoo. That would be a good way to introduce him

Rambo Reboot in the Works

Quote:

Nu Image/Millennium Films is plotting a reboot of the classic 1980s action franchise that starred Sylvester Stallone, tapping Brooks McLaren to pen the script and Ariel Vromen to direct the feature.

Titled Rambo: New Blood, the new reboot would not see Stallone return as the action hero, like he did in Millennium’s 2008 outting, but would see a younger actor inhabit the role. The company is looking at Rambo as a character akin to James Bond.

No plot details were given for the new film as the project is still in early development.

Apparently there's a mobile game called DC Legends where you get to fight using characters from the DCU but there's some variety in what characters you can end up with?

So far it seems you end up with Zatanna and Hal Jordan with a third hero drawn by a card system and so far seen you tube videos where they ended up with White Lantern Sinestro, Black Adam, Deadshot, etc..

Supposed to be on release in November but in some places it has already been released!

Anyway anybody played this and if so what is your opinion of it?

Has anyone ended up with Doomsday?:cwink:

Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed on to star in and produce “The Guest of Sanxingdui,” a new 3D Chinese language feature which boasts a whopping $200 million budget.
At the same time, the former California governor has became an ambassador of the prehistoric Sanxingdui ruins that will feature in the film. Remnants of the ‘lost’ Shu Kingdom, the 3,000 year old ruins are located in Guanghan City.
The director of the movie hasn’t yet been named with filming slated to begin in March ahead of a 2019 release.
Chinese audiences love Arnie who appeared in last year’s “Terminator Genisys” which flopped in the U.S. with $89 million, but scored $113 million in China alone.

Beauty and the beast episode of X-Men TAS

who else likes this episode of the show? one of my favorite episodes of the show and was 12 going on 13 when this episode aired as i remembered finding the ending to be very touching.

This episode shows the love of two different beings a mutant and a human who was blind but got cured by a skill surgeon mutant, an interspecies relationship or inter-being relationship. Their love was going strong until the ignorant father who heard on the news that the hospital for the blind was being attacked by the friends of humanity especially Graydon Creed, the father was disgusted by the idea of a mutant in a relationship with his daughter yet Hank McCoy aka Beast was the one who had the skill for the operation and treatment to make her see. Then when she could finally see she said "Your beautiful" to him as she was not afraid of him as he may look different than humans but she likes the person inside of the skin as beauty comes from within as looks aren't always everything. Then the Friends of humanity kidnapped her to use her as bait for Beast but Wolverine uses his head to infiltrate the hate group's hideout to expose the long secret of Grayon Creed to his team and to everyone so they can be shut down for their anti-mutant crime.

This episode was well written and shows a meaning of how love can be different and an allegory for interracial love in a sort of way. And were Carley and Beast along with Howard The Duck and Beverly Switzler (human and interdimensional anthro humanoid duck being), Hepizah and Consair (human being and alien humanoid skunk sapient being), Gamora and Starlord (human and alien) and Lilandran and Xavier (mutant and alien) Marvel's first interspecies couples? afterall in comics, sci-fi/fantasy stories, fanfiction, animation, games etc. there's nothing wrong with interspecies relationships but unless if it's of a humanoid being, sapient being, magical creature being and mutant being. Afterall love is love and that's what this episode showed audiences that love can be different as Carley and Beast were soul-mates as the father forgave him yet Beast did said that once the hate between humans and mutants end they can be together again.

Hank did loved Carley you know and when she got cured of her blindess, she saw him and thought he was beautiful and didn't matter by his appearance and she loved him for she and him were soul-mates.

There has been plenty of examples in shows/movies/comics/games etc. besides the ones i mentioned like Jessica and Roger (an animated human and an animated anthro rabbit), Nick and Judy on Zootopia (both are different mammals), Denise and Frank on Regular Show (Margaret's parents whom one is a human being and one is a humanoid bird being), April and Don in Ninja Turtles, Eliza and Goliath on Gargoyles, Star Wars humans and aliens, Star Trek humans and aliens, Eric and Ariel in Little Mermaid, Madison and Tom Hanks in Splash (human and mermaid), Charlene and Vinnie on Biker Mice from Mars (Both of them are sapient mammal beings), Frank and Denise on Regular Show (Margaret's mom and dad as Frank is the biological dad of Margo), Duckman characters with different mammal anthro beings/different birds/even human ladies on the show, Batman and Cheetah on Justice League, Beauty and The Beast 80's show, etc.

I believe in comics/fanfiction/sci-fi fantasy stories and books even Star Wars/animation/games/Sci-fi fantasy films etc. a person should have that right to love whoever they want to love as the artist or writer thinks so and even of humans with alien beings/humanoid beings/mutant beings.

As Prince Lir in Peter S Beagle's The Last Unicorn (Book and movie) once said when he found out the loveliest girl he ever laid eyes on and romanced known as Lady Amalthea is a humanized unicorn "Unicorn, mermaid, sorceress, vampire, gargoyle..no name you'd give her would surprise or frighten me, i love whom i love" which is one of my all time favorite quotes.

My girlfriend's little nephew is a LOT like I was at his age, he's 6 about to turn 7, he's discovering reading and he's big into imagination, he can entertain himself for hours just walking around telling stories in his head. I was just like that, basically obsessed with anything involving heroes, adventure, fantasy, from Indiana Jones to Treasure Island to Huckleberry Finn, Knights Of The Roundtable, but ESPECIALLY superheroes and especially Superman and Batman. I loved the idea of a secret identity, I'd wear my superhero outfits to school under my clothes and go change in the bathroom.

So I think it'd be cool to kinda share some of the stuff I was into at that age with this kid, spark his imagination, encourage his creativity. Pass down the torch to the next generation, because I really relate to him at that age, and I don't think there's anybody else in the family who quite gets it. I know nobody really got me lol. I know he's seen and at least liked a lot of the superhero films of recent days, and a few of the pre Nolan Batman films, he's got the Batman Alvin and The Chipmunks tape, I had that when I was a kid, and he likes Captain Underpants.

Just trying to think of things that I loved at that age. There was so much. I watched basically every superhero movie and film in existence, somehow my mom managed to tape it all for me when it came on TV.

I was fine with regular grown up comics at that age, but I'' thinking he might like something that's a little more geared towards kids. Any suggestions or do you know kids of a similar age and mindset? Was thinking maybe either Lil Gotham or the Batman '66 comic, maybe...

At what point do you think if a movie is going to be bad before it releases?

What the title says.

Over here we tend to track the production of movies right down to every rumour and scoop whether it's a comic book movie or not. What's the point where you think it's going to suck?

Would it be things like Drew McWeeny's BvS rumours? Set drama rumours involving Josh Trank in Fan4stic? Heavy studio interference like in Suicide Squad?

At what point do you think if a movie is going to be bad before it releases?

Which heroes should cameo in future Spider-Man films?

If Spidey ends up having his own franchise if he ends up getting sequels just which heroes should cameo in sequels to this franchise if it ends up spawning off? Since we are already getting Tony Stark/Iron Man for Homecoming then I would love to see Steve Rogers/Captain America cameo in a Spidey film given his and Peter's connection to New York being that Cap is from Brooklyn and Spidey is from Queens

Or another hero that I would want to see cameo in Spidey films would be Falcon or Winter Soldier

Which heroes should cameo in future Spider-Man films?

Which heroes deserve a solo film?

Out of the heroes in the Marvel universe just which heroes deserve a solo film? If anything the heroes that I feel deserve a solo film are definitely Black Widow, Winter Soldier, Hawkeye, Incredible Hulk even though he did have his own solo film if anything he deserves a second chance at another one and another hero that deserves a solo film in this universe is Hercules

Which heroes deserve a solo film?

What should DC's Phase 2 look like in the DCEU?

As far as the DCEU goes we pretty much had Phase 1 of films that being Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Justice League, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, Shazam, Justice League Part II and Green Lantern Corps

Even though most of the Phase 1 films aren't out yet they make up Phase 1 of the DCEU so with that said I wonder what should Phase 2 look like going forward?

The word "superhero" at Marvel Comics

In either the Golden or Silver Ages, how often have you seen the word "superhero" appear in a Marvel Comic?

The earliest mention known to me appears on the first THOR issue of JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY, proclaiming that Thor is the greatest superhero of all time.

The word "superhero" at DC Comics

Prior to the debut of the Legion of Super-Heroes, how often have you seen the word "superhero" appear in a DC Comic?

I've only noted it once, in a NEWSBOY LEGION story. Assuming it's not an edited passage, the Guardian observes that in his new regalia he looks like "a comic book super-hero."

Uwe Boll Announces Retirement...Moment Of Silence Plz..

http://ift.tt/2eHbEMM
Quote:

The critics won’t have Uwe Boll to kick around anymore.
The German filmmaker, who once played Adolph Hitler in an action comedy film called Blubberella, is best known for adapting video games like House of the Dead, BloodRayne and Dungeon Siege into movies.
He’s never had an easy ride with reviewers — the San Francisco Chronicle’s Peter Hartlaub called Alone in the Dark, “a film so mind-blowingly horrible that it teeters on the edge of cinematic immortality”—and earned the nickname The Raging Boll after challenging his worst critics a “put up or shut up” boxing match.
He knocked out each of his four opponents, landing a blow for anyone who has ever suffered a bad review.
Now he’s done. The release of Rampage: President Down is his swan song, the final film he will direct he says, in part, because his politically charged movies have “no impact.”
“Rampage 3 will be watched on Netflix, DVD or iTunes or whatever,” he says.
“They’ll say, ‘That wonderful movie! I liked it blah, blah, blah,’ then watch Avengers. With streaming everywhere there is just a big wave of movies flooding around and you have no impact.”
“The market is dead,” he adds, “you don’t make any money anymore on movies because the DVD and Blu Ray market worldwide has dropped 80 per cent in the last three years. That is the real reason; I just cannot afford to make movies.”
“I can’t go back to student filmmaking because I have made so many movies in my life, and I can’t make cheaper and cheaper movies at my age. It’s a shame. I would be happy to make movies but it is just not financially profitable.”
Boll says he’s been self-financing his films for over a decade.
“I never had people giving me money,” he says.
“I’ve been using my money since 2005 and if I hadn’t made the stupid video game based movies I would never have amalgamated the capital so I could say, ‘Let’s make the Darfur movie.’ I don’t need a Ferrari, I don’t need a yacht. I invested in my own movies and I lost money.”
He may have gone in the hole on films like Attack on Darfur and Assault on Wall Street, but he’s proud of their grit and realism.
“It’s way better than Wall Street 2 by Oliver Stone,” he boasts. “It’s better researched, it’s better written, it’s better, but it doesn’t have Michael Douglas.”
He says his movies are concrete, as they portray “real issues.”
“It’s not Jason Bourne or any bulls— movie where they make stuff up. My movies are real.”
With Rampage: President Down hitting iTunes, Boll will now spend his time attending to his film distribution business and his Vancouver restaurant Bauhaus (which the food critics love, by the way). As for his critics he hopes they’ll take time to watch his movies.
“Now when I don’t make any more movies,” he says, “maybe they’ll find the time to actually watch the movies, starting with Postal in 2005, the movies of the last ten years. They will see they were a lot of very interesting movies and a lot of movies that I think made sense and said a point about things. They deserve to be discussed bigger than they were.”

Gerard Butler Stars In Angel Has Fallen

Gerard Butler Reteams With Millennium Films For Threequel ‘Angel Has Fallen’
Quote:

EXCLUSIVE: Millennium Films is teaming up with Gerard Butler again, this time for Angel Has Fallen, a threequel follow-up to hit action titles Olympus Has Fallen and London Has Fallen.Butler will be back to star as Secret Service agent Mike Banning, who has spent his career keeping American presidents safe. This time, he’s the target. If his attackers can take down half of Washington, D.C. with it, all the better. Among those at risk is the President, whose official plane Air Force One is code-named Angel.

Producers are Butler, Alan Siegel, Mark Gill, John Thompson and Matt O’Toole. Exec producers are Avi Lerner, Trevor Short and Christine Otal. Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt, who created the franchise, will write the script. No director has been set.

Millennium will be launching the title to distributors at the American Film Market in Santa Monica next week, and it’s sure to be one of the hottest titles up for grabs given the box office success of the first two installments: Olympus Has Fallen took $161M at the worldwide box office i 2013 while London Has Fallen generated a whopping $205M worldwide this year.

Millennium is targeting a production start in the first half of 2017.

The company also will be shopping Unchained, a Reservoir Dogs-style thriller from writer-director Paul Solet that stars Adrian Brody, John Malkovich and Antonio Banderas.

This is us

I was surprised there wasn't a thread yet about this show. In my opinion, it's the number one drama on television right now and the best media content drama out there (better than most dramatic films I see as well).

Quote:

Jack and his wife - who is very pregnant with triplets -- have just moved into their new home in Pittsburgh. Successful and handsome television actor Kevin is growing increasingly bored with his bachelor lifestyle. Randall -- who was abandoned at a fire station by his father as an infant -- is a stylish New York-based businessman working to raise two daughters with his wife, Beth. These people are among a group -- several of whom share a birthday -- of seemingly random individuals whose lives intertwine in unexpected ways.
And I'm willing to bet I'm not the only one on SHH who absolutely loves this show. I very rarely buy dramatic shows on blu ray, the only other being the second season of 'American Crime' and right now this is a guaranteed purchase to me because it's better on a weekly basis than most of the films I see - brilliant writing, strong performances, solid direction all around.

Because the premiere of next season should be Episode 100, I think that would be the perfect opportunity to do the [blackout]time jump[/blackout].

I'm praying they play the whole [blackout]Negan vs. everyone else[/blackout] conflict out this season. It was a lengthy arc in the books, but I think all the meaningful material provided would be able to fit in one season as long as they don't engage in too much filler f***ery.

Do you think Season 7 ends with...

Jai Alai: a dead sport still in existance

i just dont get it, why did Jai Alai wind up as a gambling sport? why didnt Jai Alai just became a major league team sport without the gambling and so on? there would have been a major professional league. look at it now, ever since the players strike from 1988 or something, the sport has died. would have been cool to see a video game made in honor of Jai Alai

Jai Alai: a dead sport still in existance

Is it ever really cold?

I'm not as die hard as most for Walking Dead but I do enjoy it a lot. I just don't know a lot of minor details. I've seen everything except the new premiere which I read the spoilers on.
But my question is, is it ever cold? I can't remember ever seeing snow. But maybe they're in SAN Diego or something. I just thought of this because I think I'd try to go north where there could be some snow. It seemed to me the walkers would be much easier to kill. Could be wrong. Thoughts?

Power levels of various characters

I remember reading a while back an interview with Feige where he said how Marvel is planning ahead and having basically something like a big storyboard where they keep track of things happening and things to come.

Now with the MCU expanding and IW around the corner, we allready have vast amount of characters interacting with each other. And all of them have different power levels, and I think that Marvel should also keep some sort of track of the power levels of all these characters.
Something like a big board where speed, strength, durability is written. That way directors can know how hard certain character can punch and how much damage certain character can make.

A few examples of some power level inconsistencies in the past:
In Civil War Black Panther's speed and strength was on level of Captain America which is way above peak human. Yet in the airport fight scene Hawkeye was able to land a few punches. Also, for Hawkeye to be hit by Blackpanther would feel as if a normal human was hit by a heavy weight boxer.
In Guardians of the Galaxy, when Gamora was in prison she was overpowered by 3 prisoners.
If hulk buster armour can withstand hul'ks punches, it shouldn't be pierced by a steel pipe.

Hopefully for IW the Russos will manage to portay these different power levels properly.

Deadpool 2 News and Discussion

I thought it would be useful to create a 'Deadpool 2 News and Discussion' thread, instead of breaking up the discussion on the sequel between here and the original movie's section.
i
Ryan Reynolds will reprise his role as the 'Merc With a Mouth' Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, and will produce Deadpool 2. Also returning are original scriptwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

The sequel will feature popular comic book characters Cable and Domino.

Tim Miller, helmer of the original movie, has recently stepped down as director following conflicts with star/producer Ryan Reynolds.

______________

news

Ryan Reynolds is appearing on TBS' 'Conan' November 3rd.

I doubt he will delve into the current situation with director Tim Miller, but maybe he will offer an update on Deadpool 2. The last time he appeared on the show was for the Deadpool trailer debut.

Mortal Engines

Quote:

OUR NEXT MOVIE!

Hi Folks,

It’s been a quiet few months, but I’m very happy to tell you that our next project is now underway.

WingNut Films be producing a feature film based on Philip Reeve’s book Mortal Engines, to be directed by Christian Rivers. The script has been written by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens and myself.

Some of you may recall that Christian was going to direct the Dambusters a few years back. Since then he’s kept himself busy, making short films, and directing Second Units on The Hobbit and Pete’s Dragon.

Our involvement in Mortal Engines actually pre-dates Dambusters (which is still happening) - Christian actually worked on Mortal Engines previs way back in 2009. It’s very exciting to finally get it underway!

We’ve had the rights to Philip’s book series for several years, but have had to wait for the right time to make it.

If you haven’t read the books, you should. They present a stunning look into the future, when all of Earth’s major cities are now mounted on wheels, roaming across the landscape as massive “Traction Cities”. Our society has build itself on the principals of Municipal Darwinism - this basically involves the bigger cities hunting down, and consuming, the smaller ones. And that’s only the backdrop to an original and emotional personal story.

Philip Reeve has created a range of intriguing characters, following their adventures in our strange future world through four books - “Mortal Engines”, “Predator’s Gold”, "Infernal Devices” and “A Darkling Plain”.

The moment we read these novels, we knew what exciting movies they’d make. I literally can’t wait to see them!

The movie will be financed by MRC and Universal, and shooting will get underway next March, in New Zealand. Producers Zane Weiner and Amanda Walker, who both worked on the Hobbit, will be spearheading the NZ based team, along with Deborah Forte in the US.

No casting to announce yet, but Weta Workshop and Weta Digital are both onboard.

With the wheels now rolling on Mortal Engines, I’ll bring you a lot of news and sneak peeks at what we’re doing over the coming months.

Cheers,

Peter J

Peter Jackson and ‘Lord of the Rings’ Team Set Next Project With Mortal Engines

Quote:

Peter Jackson and his “Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” team have found their next pic with their long-in-development adaptation of “Mortal Engines.”

Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens will co-write the film with Christian Rivers directing.

The movie is Rivers’ first major directing job, having spent the majority of his 25-year career working closely with Jackson. Rivers began as a story board artist, later moving into supervising visual effects and finally serving as splinter unit director on “The Hobbit” trilogy. Rivers won a visual efforts Academy Award for his work on the 2005 film “King Kong.” He also recently served as second unit director on the remake of “Pete’s Dragon.”

“Christian is one of my closest collaborators,” says Jackson. “The combination of emotion and jaw-dropping visuals in ‘Mortal Engines’ makes this the perfect movie for his move into feature directing. What Christian intends to do with Philip Reeve’s terrific story is going to result in an original and spectacular movie. I wish I could see it tomorrow!”

Based on the novel by Philip Reeve, Jackson and Walsh have been involved with the project for several years, having optioned the rights from Scholastic in 2001. Ken Kamins – Jackson, Walsh, and Boyens’ longtime manager – brought the project to MRC.

The book is set in a world many thousands of years in the future. Earth’s cities now roam the globe on huge wheels, devouring each other in a struggle for ever diminishing resources. On one of these massive Traction Cities, Tom Natsworthy has an unexpected encounter with a mysterious young woman from the Outlands who will change the course of his life forever.

The sci-fi/fantasy movie is the first in a planned series of films based on Reeve’s novels. The series is comprised of four books: “Mortal Engines,” “Predator’s Gold,” “Infernal Devices,” and “A Darkling Plain.”

“Mortal Engines” books have won several awards including the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize, the Los Angeles Times Book Award, the Smarties Gold Award, and Blue Peter Book of the Year.

Zane Weiner, Amanda Walker, and Deborah Forte are serving as producers, along with Walsh and Jackson. Kamins will executive produce. Boyens will co-produce.

This film marks the first project the three creatives have worked on together in which Jackson will not direct. It also is a return to Universal for Jackson, after he directed the “King Kong” remake for the studio.

MRC and Universal are co-financing the film. Universal will also serve as worldwide distributor. Production is slated to begin in New Zealand in spring 2017.

“Peter, Fran, Philippa and Christian are all visionary storytellers with the gift of turning their passion projects into beloved blockbusters for a worldwide audience,” said Donna Langley, chairman of Universal Pictures. “The studio is proud of our longstanding relationship with MRC and these tremendous filmmakers, and we are looking forward to collaborating on this cinematic re-imagination of Philip’s bold and fantastical novel.”

The law firm of Nelson Davis negotiated on behalf of Jackson, Walsh, Boyens, and Rivers; and Stan Coleman on behalf of Scholastic and Forte. Reeve is represented by Philippa Milnes-Smith at Lucas Alexander Whitley Ltd in the U.K.
