The Diamond List for April 9th, 2014

So, the reason I posted this so late is that I was experimenting with some way to make posting this thing easier. I'm not sure if others have run into this problem, but posting the text version of this often makes it all run together. Well, I thought I solved the problem, but now randomly, by using the same method it isn't working? I don't get it

Pink Panther - MGM Prepping Live Action/CG Movie

MGM To Make New Live-Action/CG ‘Pink Panther’ Movie

By THE DEADLINE TEAM

In the latest effort mining its deep library catalog for feature film franchises, MGM said today that it is developing a new Pink Panther movie, a live-action/animated hybrid that will take its cues from the tone set by the original Friz Freleng and David De Patie cartoons in addition to that of Blake Edwards’ films. That means that the focus will be on the Pink Panther character itself more than Inspector Clouseau, who took over the spotlight for Edwards’ movies thanks to Peter Sellers’ creation of one of the most iconic comedy characters of all time. There have been 11 Pink Panther feature films (and countless cartoons and shorts) spanning five decades — like another MGM property James Bond one of the movie business’ longest-running feature franchises.

Walter Mirisch, exec producer of the original movies and TV series, has come aboard to produce the new pic along with Edwards’ widow Julie Andrews. The Simpsons Movie and Monsters Inc director David Silverman will direct. MGM’s SVP Production Cassidy Lange will oversee the film for the studio.

“We are incredibly proud to re-introduce the Pink Panther to a brand new generation in such a fresh way. Even more exciting is the chance to work again with our dear friends Walter Mirisch and Julie Andrews, as well as the talented David Silverman, whose enthusiasm convinced us to ‘Think Pink!’,” said Jonathan Glickman, president of MGM’s motion picture group, who made the announcement today with MGM chairman and CEO Gary Barber.

The Pink Panther character originated a 50 years ago when it was created by Edwards, Freleng and Hawley Pratt for the opening credits of the feature films. Their popularity spawned the short The Pink Phink, directed by Freleng and Pratt, won the 1964 Oscar for Best Animated Short. More shorts and TV series followed through the years.

When I was a kid, I was always vaguely pissed off that the PP character didn't actually feature into the movies. Then again, that was before I was old enough to appreciate Peter Sellars.

Wealthy child rapist given only probation

The judge reasoned that he would "not do well" in prison.

Quote:

Robert H. Richards IV, one of the heirs to the du Pont fortune, admitted in June 2008 that he had raped his 3-year old daughter, Delaware Online reports. The girl told her grandmother about the 2005 alleged abuse, and said that her father had said it was “our little secret” but that she didn’t want “my daddy touching me anymore.” Richards was originally charged with two counts of second-degree rape, but accepted a last-minute plea deal on fourth-degree rape charges, a class C violent felony that usually comes with over two years of jail time. Prosecutors sought only probation, and Judge Jan Jurden agreed, sentencing him to an 8-year prison sentence but commuting all the prison time in favor of probation.

Aquarius - NBC Orders Charles Manson Drama Starring David Duchovny

NBC Orders Charles Manson Drama Series Starring David Duchovny From Marty Adelstein & ITV Studios Who Eye Alliance

By NELLIE ANDREEVA

Following the end of his Showtime dark comedy series Californication, David Duchovny is reuniting with former Showtime topper Bob Greenblatt for Aquarius, a gritty 1960s cop drama at NBC about the Charles Manson murders. The project, envisioned as an event series, has received a 13-episode straight-to-series order. It will be produced by ITV Studios America and Marty Adelstein Prods in the first collaboration between the companies, which have been in lengthy talks about a joint venture-type of partnership, in which Marty Adelstein Prods would function as a mini studio under the ITV Studios America umbrella following its upcoming exit from 20th Century Fox TV, where Adelstein had been based for a long time. Aquarius, written on spec by John McNamara (In Plain Sight), marks the return to broadcast TV of Duchovny, who toplined Fox’s hit The X Files, in which Greenblatt also was involved while at Fox.

Set in the late 1960s, Aquarius stars Duchovny as a Los Angeles police sergeant with a complicated personal life who starts tracking a small-time criminal and budding cult leader seeking out vulnerable women to join his “cause.” The name of that man is Charles Manson. The twists and turns of a complicated undercover operation will lead Duchovny’s character and his young partner to the brink of Manson’s crimes that will that will eventually lead to the Tate-LaBianca murders in subsequent seasons. “Event series are a big priority for us, and the combination of a show that charts the lead-up to the Manson murders, along with a television star of the magnitude of David Duchovny, is the very definition of an event,” said NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke. Added Greenblatt, “After being involved in the production of both The X-Files and Californication, it gives me great pleasure to work with David Duchovny for the third time on this compelling drama.” Aquarius joins another Charles Manson project, a limited series which is in development at Fox with writer Bret Easton Ellis and director Rob Zombie.

McNamara will executive produce with Duchovny, Adelstein and Duchovny’s manager Melanie Greene. The project stems from a script Adelstein, which had had for a long time and which had been excluded from his 20th TV deal. He recently revisited it, felt it would be perfect for Duchovny who was becoming available post-Californication and sent it to him. With Duchovny on board, the project was set up at NBC. Duchovny, who also is repped by Resolution and attorney Peter Nelson, had a recurring role on ABC’s Twin Peaks before starring for nine seasons as Fox Mulder in the iconic series The X-Files. The seventh and final season of Californication premieres next month. Duchovny won Golden Globes for both The X-Files and Californication and has received four Emmy nominations, including two for The X-Files.

Oh, that NBC trying to get the jump on FOX. May the best network win.

What would politics in America look like if voting was made compulsory?

I realize it is somewhat of an unrealistic idea – though not inconceivable on a state level.

Westworld - The inspiration for Terminator?

Just saw this awesome sic fi classic. Hadn't heard of it before and I was blown away while watching it. I liked the effects for the time it was made and its simplistic premise. The androids were somewhat creepy and I really liked the way the machinery looked inside of them. The gunslinger android I think was clearly an inspiration for the Terminator. And it's the first movie where a 2D cgi is used to show us the bad android's vision. Pretty neat for 1973.

10 Shocking Photos of Consumption And Waste

10 Shocking Photos That Will Change How You See Consumption And Waste

Quote:

As individual and anonymous consumers, it's seemingly impossible to even estimate the physical ramifications of our daily consumption and waste. While our personal imprints may not seem in themselves worthy of alarm, the combined effect of human's habits and rituals is hard to look away from.

Photographer Chris Jordan works with the debris we as a society leave behind, photographing massive dumps of cell phones, crushed cars and circuit boards. Squished together in dizzying quantities, the discarded goods resemble hypnotic puzzles, abstracted color fields and hallucinatory fractals. Jordan compares the complex layers of wreckage to the overwhelming detail of the Grand Canyon.

The series, dubbed "Intolerable Beauty: Portraits of American Mass Consumption," shows the unmistakable imprint of our American culture in all its horror and strange, dark appeal. "I am appalled by these scenes, and yet also drawn into them with awe and fascination," Jordan explained in an email to The Huffington Post. "The immense scale of our consumption can appear desolate, macabre, oddly comical and ironic, and even darkly beautiful; for me its consistent feature is a staggering complexity."

Faced with Jordan's unshakeable images, we lose our ability to shrug off the consequences of our consumption, a small but necessary first step on the way to lasting change. "As an American consumer myself, I am in no position to finger wag; but I do know that when we reflect on a difficult question in the absence of an answer, our attention can turn inward, and in that space may exist the possibility of some evolution of thought or action. So my hope is that these photographs can serve as portals to a kind of cultural self-inquiry. It may not be the most comfortable terrain, but I have heard it said that in risking self-awareness, at least we know that we are awake."

See Jordan's striking works below and watch as dumped electronics morph into something resembling brushstrokes or building blocks. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

And it keeps going on and on...

I need new books though.:( I want something with good Whedon-ish dialogue. That's the main thing I'm looking for right now is just great dialogue.

Koreas Trade Fire; Island Residents in Shelters

North and South Korea fired hundreds of artillery shells into each other's waters Monday in a flare-up of animosity that forced residents of five front-line South Korean islands to evacuate to shelters for several hours, South Korean officials said.

The exchange of fire into the Yellow Sea followed Pyongyang's sudden announcement that it would conduct live-fire drills in seven areas north of the Koreas' disputed maritime boundary. North Korea routinely test-fires artillery and missiles into the ocean but rarely discloses those plans in advance. The announcement was seen as an expression of Pyongyang's frustration at making little progress in its recent push to win outside aid.

North Korea fired 500 rounds of artillery shells over more than three hours, about 100 of which fell south of the sea boundary, South Korean Defense Ministry spokesman Kim Min-seok said. South Korea responded by firing 300 shells into North Korean waters, he said.

No shells from either side were fired at any land or military installations, but Kim called the North's artillery firing a provocation aimed at testing Seoul's security posture. There was no immediate comment from North Korea.

Monday's exchange was relatively mild in the history of animosity and violence between the Koreas, but there is worry in Seoul that an increasingly dissatisfied North Korea could repeat the near-daily barrage of war rhetoric it carried out last spring, when tensions soared as Pyongyang threatened nuclear strikes on Washington and Seoul in response to condemnation of its third nuclear test.

Best American Accent?

To date, at least that I can recall, we've gotten four American characters played by Brits.

Who did the accent best?

Me, I'd choose Cohan or Lennie James. I often find Lincoln's accent overexaggerated, and with Morrisey, it almost seems like he's barely disguising his own accent. I guess the same might hold true for Cohan, but when I hear Morgan speak, in the few instances he's actually appeared on the show, I honestly forget he's faking it.

Being underweight is even more dangerous than being overweight

Research of over 50 studies have shown you'll die younger if you're underweight. So go fat or die young! :oldrazz:

Or more realistically, try to keep your weight in the healthy range and not under do it. Even being slightly overweight might actually make you healthier than the accepted norm.

Quote:

Underweight people die sooner than everyone else, even the obese, says new research that is expected to recharge debate over whether the risks of obesity are being overplayed.

Toronto researchers who analyzed 51 studies on the links between body mass index and death from any cause found those categorized as underweight have the highest risk of a premature death .

Adults who are underweight — with a BMI of less than 18.5 — have a 1.8 times higher risk of dying than those with a “normal” BMI of 18.5 to 24.9, the study found.

By comparison, people classed as obese (a BMI of 30 to 34.9) were 1.2 times more likely to die during a minimum five years of follow-up than normal weight people. The risk of dying was 1.3 times higher for the severely obese — those with a BMI of 35 or more.

Lead author Dr. Joel Ray says there is no question the obesity problem is genuine and real but that public health angst over rising obesity rates also risks creating an “epidemic” of underweight adults.

“Our focus as a society has been on overweight, obese and very obese, and there’s no problem in our focus. It’s an important public health and individual health issue,” said Ray, a physician and researcher at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. “But in the process we’ve neglected the influence of being underweight on mortality.”

Campaigns aimed at curbing obesity are laudable, he said. “But we also know that it also has the risk of potentially affecting people who are already sufficiently healthy in size, or who are so slightly overweight that it’s irrelevant — their risk of dying or diabetes isn’t important.

“It’s those individuals who become unintended victims of the campaign.”

Underweight puts people at increased risk of diseases or conditions that can either make people very ill, or kill them, Ray said. They include lung disease, cardiovascular disease such as heart failure and falls and injuries from poor fitness and less muscle mass.

“People with lung disease tend to work harder breathing, so they expend more energy and burn more calories, 24-7,” Ray said.

Malnourishment, heavy alcohol or drug use, smoking and mental illness are common causes of underweight.

But the study should also serve as a caution to people who are restricting food, over-exercising and “sliding themselves into an underweight category” in pursuit of the pin-thin bodies paraded by celebrities and fashion magazines.

The study, published Friday in the Journal of Epidemiology and Public Health, is the latest to challenge the BMI as a measure of health. Other studies have found that people categorized as “overweight” by their BMI have a lower risk of dying prematurely than those at the recommended weight for their height.

Everyone needs a reasonable amount of body fat. Ray uses the term “physical robustness.” “Think of the Dutch,” he said. “They don’t have too much fat, they’ve got good bone structure and good muscle mass.”

What matters most is waist circumference, he said.

Big buttocks, thighs or hips are not particularly risky for heart disease, diabetes or stroke. Far more dangerous is fat concentrated in the belly. The risk lies in a waist circumference of more than 102 cm for men and more than 88 cm for women .

The BMI also doesn’t take into account people who happen to be large because of more muscle and bone, Ray said.

Where it’s more useful is for lower weights — the thin and ultrathin — “because it tells us about muscle mass and fat,” he said.

Most of the studies in the analysis involved middle- to late-middle-age adults. “They weren’t the very elderly at the edge of life.”

The study reminds us that being skinny is not a guarantee for a long life, said Dr. Arya Sharma, professor of medicine and chair of obesity research and management at the University of Alberta. “There are a lot of people at the low end of the weight spectrum who do have very significant health problems.”

New studies are showing that people in the “overweight” range — a BMI of 25 to 30 — have the highest life expectancy, he said.

“The problem with all this data is that you’re looking at population data and you’re trying to make recommendations for individuals, and that’s always difficult,” Sharma said.

“There are a lot of skinny people who are very healthy who live to a happy old age, in the same way there are obese people who are healthy and will probably live to a long age,” he said.

The researchers also found fetuses that are underweight or overweight, are at a higher risk of being stillborn or dying in the womb.

Placental problems leading to poor fetal nutrition can lead to an underweight fetus. “And placental problems often arise because a mother has high blood pressure, smokes or has diabetes,” Ray said. “Most overweight fetuses are so because the mom is herself obese, and/or has diabetes, which leads to fetal overgrowth,” he said.

6 Raw Foodists Look Decades Younger

Is Raw Veganism the Fountain of Youth?

http://ift.tt/1iORP2y

Quote:

Or perhaps it’s the cooked food that’s aging the average person prematurely. In any case, the following people have truly inspired me to continue my raw vegan journey for life!

Their age and appearance speak volumes of how perfectly aligned the living foods lifestyle is for the human body. It is an undeniable fact that our appearance on the outside, especially after our mid years, is clear reflection of our internal health -- no Photoshop, no makeup, no tricks.

Meet 6 inspiring raw foodists with an appearance that will trample on any skepticism or doubt about the living foods movement:
Quote:

1. Storm Talifero, 64

Storm Talifero is one of the oldest and most successful long-term 100% raw vegans in the movement today. He has been raw for over 42 years, and at age 64 he looks more like he is in his 30′s or 40′s.

He’s an athlete, author, illustrator, architect and raw chef who has brought many innovative recipes to the art of raw cuisine. If you’ve read any of Storm’s e-books you’re familiar with his maxims: ”Fresh is Best”, “Don’t put your food in the fire” and “Would you like your food with or without the nutrients?”.

Having raised a large family, through many years Storm’s recipes have evolved into a menu plan program that has helped hundreds of people to experience the raw diet in a format that is doable in modern life.

2. Annette Larkins, 72

The first time I saw this Goddess was through this viral video, and I just couldn’t believe my eyes. This perfect image of health, vitality and youth with a petite size four frame and a wrinkle-free face is over 70 years of age!

She has been a raw vegan for 27 years and vegan for many years before that. And she’s from my hometown! ☺ The resident of Miami-Dade County, Florida, attributes her youthful looks to her raw vegan diet and grows almost everything she eats in the garden she refers to as her ‘fountain of youth’.

In her famous interview, ABC reporters explored her back yard, to find that every inch is covered in plants and trees that grow the fruits Mrs. Larkins eats.

She told reporters “’My diet consists of fruits, nuts, vegetables and seeds. I do a lot of sprouting of seeds and as you can see from my garden and of course, these are the raw foods that I eat.’”

3. Lou Corona, 60

Lou was one of the first people I came across in my journey for true health. His juice recipe, the Lemon Ginger Blast absolutely changed my life. It was the effect this juice had on my life that got me curious about raw foods, and for that I am very grateful!

Lou drinks this green juice every day and I can totally see (and feel) how this concoction contributes to this man’s superior health! Lou has been on a raw vegan diet for a whopping 39 years.

Before he started the raw vegan diet he suffered from a multitude of illnesses ranging from asthma to a tumor, eventually coming to a place where he was able to heal himself from chronic asthma, severe allergies, major constipation, candida, tumors, severe acne, and debilitating arthritis.

4. Tonya Zavasta, 56

Tonya Zavasta is one of my greatest heroes. This 56 year old beauty is a very witty and humorous writer, researcher, teacher, and entrepreneur. She has written 5 books on living foods and natural anti-aging, two of which I’ve read and loved.

She’s been eating raw for 17 years now. With her diet and lifestyle change she conquered surgical trauma, pain and her former identity as a “cripple.” I’ve read two of her books, Quantum Eating, and Raw Food and Hot Yoga.

Both are brilliant and highly recommended for the seasoned raw foodist. The firmness of her skin and waist size tell us that she’s really on to something. And it’s definitely not botox or plastic surgery!

5. Markus Rothkranz, 52

I remember the first time I saw Markus, I thought he was in his late 20s early 30s. Boy was I wrong. This man is 52 years old! Watch this video of him proving it, since no one believes him. He’s been eating raw foods since his late twenties, therefore he’s been raw for over 20 years.

And his vibrant complexion and super fit body says it all. As you will see on his page, he looks younger than he did at 27! Markus is all about abundance, health and financial freedom.

He has an inspiring channel on YouTube, and has written 4 books. His background is from the movie industry and now he uses it to entertain and lead people to a better and healthier lifestyle.

6. Mimi Kirk, 75

“Feeling like you’re in your 20′s at 75, is quite an amazing thing. I accredit this youthful look and spirit not only to my attitude, but really to my way of eating which is a raw vegan – living foods lifestyle.”

She was voted sexiest Vegetarian over 50, when she was actually 70 then! Although Mimi has only been raw for a few years, she attributes her youthfulness to over 40 years of 100% veganism.
It was when she started feeling arthritic pains in her joints and her blood pressure was up that she looked into eating raw, and as soon as she did, the pain and pressure went away. Mimi is so vibrant and youthful!

She is the author of a book called Live Raw. This woman is amazing and looks great for her age. Although I think if she would’ve adopted the raw foods lifestyle earlier, she’d look even younger!

She’s a great example of how veganism is great in maintaining youthfulness, but in contrast, raw veganism is age defying and can actually turn back the biological clock
!

Now I don’t know about you, but to me, just taking a look at these marvelous beings is living proof that raw foods and natural hygiene is indeed the optimal lifestyle for human health.

It clearly shows that our bodies are designed for this lifestyle. Contrary to what many of us have been led to believe, aging is NOT a normal process that is supposed to start taking place at our 30′s.

Wrinkles, sagging skin, hair loss and all the ailments that follow after 30 or 40 is due to the degeneration of the body after years of punishing it with a diet void of nutrients and enzymes.

That plus eating a diet of cooked (dead) foods, processed junk and artery clogging dairy and meats will certainly take a toll on your body in the form of premature aging, cancer, diabetes, heart failure and all the other life sucking problems we call “disease”.

As a 28 year old that has been raw vegan for only 1 year I can already start to see major differences in the way that I look. In fact, I saw these changes 3 months into this diet. I can only imagine how I have completely changed the entire trajectory of my life by correcting my diet.

I know that at some point I’ll probably stop counting the years because it’s no longer relevant to me. In the end, you’re only as old as you feel. ☺

I didn't notice any thread for this guy, and I thought he was too awesome in this to go unnoticed. Toby Jones confirmed sometime ago that he would be reprising his role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, so I think that in itself isn't a spoiler.

They have had 3 bouts so far in the 2 movies, and all 3 have been interesting, probably the most interesting in the franchise as these 2 characters and their rivalry make the movies for me, but which one do you think has been the best so far?

Though it was broken up, their fight in the cobra bas at the end of the 1dt movie has been the best so far IMO, it had the most emotion and the highest stakes, but vote away people, you may feel differently.

Backlash after "racist" Stephen Colbert tweet

Quote:

The hashtag #CancelColbert started to trend after a tweet from the verified Twitter account for "The Colbert Report" tweeted on Thursday, "I am willing to show the #Asian community I care by introducing the Ching Chong Ding Dong Foundation for Sensitivity to Orientals or Whatever."

The tweet (which has since been deleted) was a riff on a skit Colbert did Wednesday on his Comedy Central show poking fun at Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder's announcement of a foundation to help Native Americans. The team has been at the center of controversy for having a name some deem to be racist.

Colbert's character on his show is ultra-conservative and often makes outrageous statements, including his impression of "Ching Chong Ding Dong," which mocks Asian stereotypes. But without the context of the TV show skit the tweet outraged many.

Time to Discuss Race: The White Washing of The Shredder

With all of the recent backlash that has come from the casting of Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm, I figure that now is as good a time as any to discuss the portrayal of another popular comic book character that is having their racial identity transformed; The Shredder.

To preface this discussion, I would like to note that I am addressing what I see as a hypocrisy when it comes to social reactions to race changes in film. I am not too concerned with an argument about whether or not fictional characters should have their racial identities changed, but rather am focused on the double-standard that comes with the reactions to the practice altogether.

While there is no dearth of fury over "making Johnny Storm Black" or people accusing studios of being politically correct for changing Nick Fury and Heimdal into non-Whites, there seems to be little ruckus made when a traditionally non-White character is made into a White character. I've seen the range of arguments.

1) It is okay to change the race of minor characters, but you shouldn't change the "look" of major characters.

2) <insert established minority character> isn't popular enough, so changing them into a White person doesn't make a difference.

3) Changing how they look changes the portrayal of the character.

There are many many variations of the above arguments, but it all boils down to society accepting White people taking on the roles of characters that are traditionally POC, but loathing an inverted scenario in which POC take on the roles of traditionally White characters. When an Irish man and a French woman were cast in the roles of Saudi Arabian father and daughter (the Al Ghul family in The Dark Knight trilogy), the actors were given kudos for a brilliant performance. Yet when it is brought up how the characters are a whitewashed portrayal, the common defense is that all that matters is that the portrayal is well done. Yet, before Jordan is even seen in a trailer, he has been demonized as being ill-cast, not because of lack of ability, but because he doesn't "look like" Johnny Storm.

Now how does this all relate to TMNT? Shredder is a full fledged Caucasian male in this film. The Shredder, a rather well known Japanese supervillain in comic books, whom was Japanese in the original TMNT film trilogy and cartoons, is now being cast as a White male. Now is the actor in question of dubious ability? Hardly. The veteran actor, William Fichtner, is known for playing villains on film, and in terms of ability, is likely to serve the role well.

What is disturbing however is that the same people whom complain about "accuracy" and "legacy" when it comes to White characters being recast, are no where to be seen or heard now that a popular minority character has had their race changed to White.

So why is it that society holds this double standard? Are non-Whites truly seen as being that unimportant to this society? It does not seem that people are so attached to the idea of iconic characters being portrayed exactly as they are in literature, because these bouts of anger over race changes only seem to occur when the character is originally White, but rarely, when the character is originally non-White.

This makes me think of The Hunger Games and how people took to Twitter with racist banter about Rue, whom is Black in the book as well as the film, yet movie-goers were still irate because of the sympathetic nature of the character and their seeming inability to be sympathetic for the death of a Black child.

What you didn't like about Captain America: TWS - Flaws/Critiques

Hi everyone, I know this may seem like a negative sounding thread and I am not the type of person that only sees the negative in everything like some critics.

I LOVED the film, I give it a 9/10. I can't really add anything to the positives that have been said already about the film, it's true that it has some of the best action scenes in a comic book film ever, it's surprisingly sophisticated and mature etc this film hardly has any flaws.

I was just wondering what minor flaws you had with the film (if any) and what elements they could improve on in Cap 3 etc.

Personally for me, my minor critiques are:

- I would of liked slightly more screen time and dialogue for The Winter Soldier. Maybe more scenes with Bucky learning who he is, flashbacks with Steve, the origin of how he was found, his bionic arm creation etc, but it is hard to adapt because this story will continue in Cap 3 and The Winter Soldier is a brainwashed soldier so it is hard to give him personality. I also would of liked more Russian ties , but that is just a nitpick. But overall I LOVED the character, very Terminator and his look is straight from the comics and second best MCU villain to Loki.

- I would of liked an extra scene with Peggy Carter or at least slightly more build up towards the scene with old Peggy because I loved the scene because it was very poignant, but it sort of cuts straight to the scene after Steve visits the museum and I would of liked more build up to it.

- Most the score I really liked and I loved the Winter Soldier theme, very atmospheric and creepy as well as the nod to Alan Silvestri score at the beginning, but Henry Jackman had the potential to create a modern day memorable theme for Cap, but it didn't quite hit.

- Lastly, it would have been fun if there was a Wakanda/Black Panther reference regarding how Falcon got his wings and maybe they were made in Wakanda for Sam. I think fans would have really dug it up and is a nod to the comics where Black Panther gave Falcon his wings, but that isn't really a flaw, just a wish list.

Halo 2: Anniversary Edition **Rumored**

Making a thread on this because I want too.. Once it's confirmed (I fully believe it will be at E3. This game will be ready by November) then I will change the title.

Anywho.. IGN talked to big Phil about the game. I'm happy with what he's saying.

Quote:

Speaking to IGN during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco last week, Microsoft Game Studios boss Phil Spencer described what would be the most important feature to him in a hypothetical Halo 2 Anniversary release for Xbox One.

"In this fictitious world where that game existed," he began, smiling, "it’s an easy answer: it has to be just the multiplayer experience that we all found in that first Halo 2 game. If you think about what happened in the franchise and what were the hallmark moments – when did duel wielding come in, when did another playable character that wasn’t Master Chief come in?

"All the things that you and I know about the evolution of the franchise, if you’re going to say one thing about Halo 2, you’re going to talk about real multiplayer. I think you just have to nail that in just such a fundamentally core way. Frankly [we'd have to do it] probably better than we did with Halo 1 Anniversary. I thought the multiplayer in Halo 1 Anniversary was good, but Halo 1 never had multiplayer in the truest sense, so it always was going to be something different.

"If there were something called Halo 2 Anniversary," he concluded, "I think the multiplayer would have to be fantastic."

Halo 2 Anniversary has been heavily rumored recently, and not just because it's the 10-year anniversary of the game's original November 9, 2004 release. A purported insider leak allegedly outed the game, and then it was allegedly confirmed again in an interview with Master Chief voice actor Steve Downes.

If and when Halo 2 Anniversary Edition is officially confirmed, we'll have the full story on IGN.

Link

Hopefully the "When did we start to get to play as characters that aren't Master Chief (in MP)" means we'll be able to pay as Elites again in MP.. I'll throw my wallet at this game just for that. :p

The HERO Channel - A Graphic Design/Web Design Project

I would be interested in getting your feedback for a project I'm working on for two of my classes. For a web design course, I must create a web site (pretty standard and straight forward). I decided to create a fictional cable company called The Hero Channel, which plays superhero-themed content (there is also programming for real life heroes). The logo I created for the website will be used to fulfill an assignment for my graphic design class too (which was to simply create a logo). I'm a kill-two-birds-with-one-stone kinda guy.

Here are my 3 final prototypes. Your thoughts and critiques are greatly appreciated!

Best Specified Cast for Iron Man 4 and How it will be more Fun

With Iron Man 4 just on the horizon for 2018 or later due to conflicting rumors regarding Avengers 3 and what other movies are yet to be announced, Kevin Feige is planning to make it a non Iron Man comic based film with Tony Stark aka Iron Man going James Bond, and he is sure enough to have just the right kind of characters and cast members set to make the film go into place, while the plot will be decided by the crew at Marvel Studios, here is the best specified cast for the James Bond inspired Iron Man 4

Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man

Billionare philanthropist and armored avenger who is yet to expand his superhero life as a spy working against terrorist organizations like the Ten Rings and while Robert Downey Jr is on debate to reprising his role as Iron Man for the 4th film, hope has it that he will take on the real Mandarin in this film. If Downey however doesn't sign up for Iron Man 4, then someone like Mark Wahlberg is gonna have to replace him as the new Tony Stark because we all want to see the hero take on his real arch enemy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and we don't want any of the character to be denied.

Sean Penn as Mandarin (Real Mandarin of the Ten Rings)

While his real name is still a mystery, the Mandarin of the Ten Rings who is yet to be confirmed accurately and properly with ten magic rings of an alternate power source that deviates from the comics in Iron Man 4. While on the subject to try without the chinese stereotypes, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will make sure that the character uses magic rings this time because last time when he chose to deny the rings and rip the fans off with Extremis powered Aldrich Killian, he totally made problems very irritating and worst. So now thanks to the one shot titled All Hail the King for having Killian debunked from being the MCU version of the Mandarin and that the character's true MCU version, the leader of the Ten Rings is still live and at large , hopefully he will have the Mandarin properly reintroduced as the magic ring blaster we totally favor so much for the fourth Iron Man film and when he does, the best actor that would fit the role as Tony's true arch enemy Mandarin without the chinese stereotypes is Sean Penn. Sean Penn may not be chinese or from the Middle East, but what suits him for the role as the characters proper Marvel Cinematic Version is not only does his facial image ressemble the Mandarin in the comics but he also resembles Ben Kingsley and his voice sounds just like the Mandarin in the first half of Iron Man 3 which would help show a supporting reason to why Aldrich Killian had Trevor Slattery created as the Mandarin we saw in Iron Man 3 and because Sean is 17 years younger than Kingsley, he should be capable of putting up a real good fight against Downey but surely if they do reintroduce the Mandarin properly with 10 magic rings this time for the James Bond plot inspired fourth film, there are sure to be plenty of steps that Kevin Feige and the Marvel Studios will be sure to take in order for that to happen while they are sure to still try without most of the character's chinese stereotypes, without spoiling the character's appearance on height and gender, without screwing him up again like they did in Iron Man 3 and not only will they need to have the powers of those rings done but also some magic based battle armor just like the one from Armored Adventures so that his battle with those rings against Iron Man look more reasonably realistic as well.

Don Cheadle as Col. James Rhodes/War Machine/Iron Patriot

Tony's best friend who occasionally helps him as War Machine/Iron Patriot will be sure to help him out on his mission to stop the Ten Rings.

Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts

Tony Stark's former assistant and girlfriend whose role in the movie is yet to be revealed

Michael Shannon as Ghost

An enemy of Iron Man with stealth technology, gadgets and martial arts skills that makes him a highly trained and very deadly assassin. In Iron Man 4 he will serve as the Mandarin's top hitman in the Ten Rings organization.

Evangeline Lilly as Wasp

While waiting confirmation for Lilly to be the Janet Pym/Wasp (as Hank Pym's daughter), Lilly was mentioned to make multiple film appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and as Wasp, her powers would make her a very suitable ally for Tony on his Bond like scouting missions in the film.

Paul Bettany as the Vision

With Paul Bettany confirmed to play the Vision in the Avengers Age of Ultron movie next year speculating that his original voice over character in the MCU Jarvis becomes the android, his computer/IT network interfacing, intangibility and molecular disruption powers would definately make him a very reliable ally to Tony on his mission in the film

Kim Kardashian as Sunset Bain

With Iron Man 4 planned as a James Bond like film, it does need women too like Kim Kardashian as Sunset Bain. Whether she'll be a villainess or a supporting character depends on what Marvel has in store for her.

Selena Gomez as Sasha (Mandarin's Daughter)

If there is anyway for Marvel Studios to ensure that the Mandarin will not be spoiled on his physical appearance and not get screwed up again like the last time in Iron Man 3, it would be to have someone included to help Iron Man convince the Mandarin to give up his life of sinister world domination after the armored avenger defeats him if he the real Mandarin is a real human being who gets the ten magic rings from a specific source of magic. Someone close to him like his daughter Sasha. In the comics, Sasha is the daughter of both the Mandarin and Justine Hammer who works with them in their sinister operations against Iron Man. But if she is introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe along with her father without the asian ethnicity, she wouldn't be a part of her father's sinister terrorist organization. She would appear as a normal and civilized human being hanging out with some friends. Reasons why is because of the three villains (Obadiah Stane/Iron Monger, Ivan Vanko/Whiplash, and Aldrich Killian/Firebrand) from the first three Iron Man movies were people connected to Tony who he also pisses off and kills which is getting too old, boring, and predictable so it would be best for the real Mandarin;s fate in the movie to differ than end up dead because we all want Tony that he is a really changed man, he not only has to defeat his next for which is the Mandarin for real this time, but to also get through to him on what must be kept the way it is and with Sasha being the daughter of Tony's greatest for, she would be needed to help him on that matter and doing so would also help bring out a specific point of view that would help make the 4th film's box office reach the billion dollar gross revenue streak proving those like Jon Favreau just how wrong he is on his doubt of having the Mandarin work right with the ten magic rings so it should be worth a shot if they're up for it.

Doctors to use suspended animation to save gunshot and knifing victims

For real, although it's being called "emergency preservation and resuscitation" because suspended animation is too "science fiction sounding" despite they are literally doing the same thing. :wow: And the body can do this for two hours at a time whereas normally you're seeing damage after two minutes. The potential is enormous if it is successful.

Come in with a normally fatal injury and get put in suspended animation and come out alive afterwards a few hours later.

Pretty cool innovation. :word:

Quote:

NEITHER dead or alive, knife-wound or gunshot victims will be cooled down and placed in suspended animation later this month, as a groundbreaking emergency technique is tested out for the first time.

Surgeons are now on call at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to perform the operation, which will buy doctors time to fix injuries that would otherwise be lethal.

"We are suspending life, but we don't like to call it suspended animation because it sounds like science fiction," says Samuel Tisherman, a surgeon at the hospital, who is leading the trial. "So we call it emergency preservation and resuscitation."

The technique involves replacing all of a patient's blood with a cold saline solution, which rapidly cools the body and stops almost all cellular activity. "If a patient comes to us two hours after dying you can't bring them back to life. But if they're dying and you suspend them, you have a chance to bring them back after their structural problems have been fixed," says surgeon Peter Rhee at the University of Arizona in Tucson, who helped develop the technique.

The benefits of cooling, or induced hypothermia, have been known for decades. At normal body temperature – around 37 °C – cells need a regular oxygen supply to produce energy. When the heart stops beating, blood no longer carries oxygen to cells. Without oxygen the brain can only survive for about 5 minutes before the damage is irreversible.

However, at lower temperatures, cells need less oxygen because all chemical reactions slow down. This explains why people who fall into icy lakes can sometimes be revived more than half an hour after they have stopped breathing.

Just before heart and brain surgery, doctors sometimes lower body temperature using ice packs, and by circulating the blood through an external cooling system. This can give them up to 45 minutes in which to stop blood flow and perform surgery. However, the cooling process takes time and can only be done with careful planning and preparation.

When someone reaches an emergency department with a traumatic gunshot injury or stab wound, slow cooling isn't an option. Often their heart has stopped beating due to extreme blood loss, giving doctors only minutes to stop the bleeding and restart the heart. Even if the bleeding can be stopped, it's not like filling up an empty gas tank. Resuscitation exposes the body to a sudden onslaught of oxygen, which can cause tissues to release chemicals that damage cells and cause fatal "reperfusion" injuries.

Finding ways to cool the body until it reaches a state of suspended animation – where people are not alive but not yet dead – could give doctors more time in an emergency.

The technique was first demonstrated in pigs in 2002 by Hasan Alam at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, and his colleagues. The animals were sedated and a massive haemorrhage induced, to mimic the effect of multiple gunshot wounds. Their blood was drained and replaced by either a cold potassium or saline solution, rapidly cooling the body to around 10 °C. After the injuries were treated, the animals were gradually warmed up as the solution was replaced with blood.

Vital signs

The pig's heart usually started beating again by itself, although some pigs needed a jump-start. There was no effect on physical or cognitive function (Surgery, doi.org/dvhdzs).

"After we did those experiments, the definition of 'dead' changed," says Rhee. "Every day at work I declare people dead. They have no signs of life, no heartbeat, no brain activity. I sign a piece of paper knowing in my heart that they are not actually dead. I could, right then and there, suspend them. But I have to put them in a body bag. It's frustrating to know there's a solution."

That solution will be put to the test in humans for the first time. A final meeting this week will ensure that a team of doctors is fully prepared to try it. Then all they have to do is wait for the right patient to arrive.

That person will have suffered a cardiac arrest after a traumatic injury, and will not have responded to attempts to start their heart. When this happens, every member of Tisherman's team will be paged. "The patient will probably have already lost about 50 per cent of their blood and their chest will be open," he says. The team sees one of these cases each month. Their chance of survival is less than 7 per cent.

The first step is to flush cold saline through the heart and up to the brain – the areas most vulnerable to low oxygen. To do this, the lower region of their heart must be clamped and a catheter placed into the aorta – the largest artery in the body – to carry the saline. The clamp is later removed so the saline can be artificially pumped around the whole body. It takes about 15 minutes for the patient's temperature to drop to 10 °C. At this point they will have no blood in their body, no breathing, and no brain activity. They will be clinically dead.

In this state, almost no metabolic reactions happen in the body, so cells can survive without oxygen. Instead, they may be producing energy through what's called anaerobic glycolysis. At normal body temperatures this can sustain cells for about 2 minutes. At low temperatures, however, glycolysis rates are so low that cells can survive for hours. The patient will be disconnected from all machinery and taken to an operating room where surgeons have up to 2 hours to fix the injury. The saline is then replaced with blood. If the heart does not restart by itself, as it did in the pig trial, the patient is resuscitated. The new blood will heat the body slowly, which should help prevent any reperfusion injuries.

The technique will be tested on 10 people, and the outcome compared with another 10 who met the criteria but who weren't treated this way because the team wasn't on hand. The technique will be refined then tested on another 10, says Tisherman, until there are enough results to analyse.

"We've always assumed that you can't bring back the dead. But it's a matter of when you pickle the cells," says Rhee.

Getting this technique into hospitals hasn't been easy. Because the trial will happen during a medical emergency, neither the patient nor their family can give consent. The trial can only go ahead because the US Food and Drug Administration considers it to be exempt from informed consent. That's because it will involve people whose injuries are likely to be fatal and there is no alternative treatment. The team had to have discussions with groups in the community and place adverts in newspapers describing the trial. People can opt out online. So far, nobody has.

Tisherman says he eventually hopes to extend the technique to other conditions.

For now, suspended animation is limited to a few hours. But that's not to say that more lengthy suspension isn't possible.

"We're trying to save lives, not pack people off to Mars," says Tisherman. "Can we go longer than a few hours with no blood flow? I don't know. Maybe years from now someone will have figured out how to do it, but it will certainly take time."

Should Black Panther be the Leader of the Avengers if Chris Evans leaves as Cap

I think if Chris Evans leaves after Avengers 3 Black Panther should be the new leader of the Avengers instead of Ant-man and Doctor Strange and whoever else I know we may get BuckyCap but I hope we don't it seems to easy Black Panther would be much better. I see the Avengers like the MMPR we started out with six of them same with MMPR now we get some new ones and more in Phase 3 so to me I see Phase 4 being like Zeo/Turbo era we still had some old members of the team but some new ones too like Phase 2/ Phase 3 and then Tommy step down as Leader and TJ became the new Leader of the PR so I see Phase 4 being like that.

Going to become an uncle! Need advice

Hi everyone,

Guess what? I'm going to become an uncle! I find out on Monday what the gender of the baby is and he/she will be born in August.

I haven't had much experience with babies but a friend of the family brought her nephew down last weekend and that was fun. Anyways what sort of things make a good uncle because so far all I've got planned is sort of an obi wan kenobi type plan where I hover round dispensing wisdom and the occasional lightsabre.

Sitwell and SHIELD

Spoilers!
Did anyone else feel that Sitwell being a HYDRA agent felt a little unwarranted? Everything we've seen from this guy so far has been him toeing the SHIELD line and being a lower level Coulson, yet suddenly he's a HYDRA agent and ready to kill 20million people...
Where do we go from here? [TWS Spoilers]

So for those of us who have seen The Winter Soldier, let's speculate on where Agents of SHIELD goes from here! Obviously the primary game against Centipede continues, but AoS has a real chance now to make a mark on the MCU
I for one, would like to know how they can continue with the show's name - SHIELD doesn't exist any more... Or does it? Would be cool of Coulson et al set up new SHIELD
I wish I could have!!!

The Action Sequences Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

For me this film had the best action sequences of any comic book movie to date, maybe it was the real locations and oldschool stunt work that spoke to my inner Bond fan, but regardless, the set pieces are stunning.

So the question lets discuss them and feel free to vote for your favourite in the poll. :)

I'm going to kick things off with Cap taking down the Quinjet, not only is the way he bears down on it on his bike a fantastic visual, but the way he leaps onto it and then systematically takes out it's engines with his shield so it crashes is one of the best hero moments in any Comic book flick to date IMO.

What in hell is going on at Sony Computer Entertainment?

This should be a great time for Sony Computer Entertainment. The PlayStation 4 is out and it's selling very well. You'd presume that each of the company's many first-party studios would be happily busy chipping away at their first projects for the system, preparing to bring the heat at this E3 with a slew of announcements etc.

Except, y'know, everyone is leaving.

The last few weeks have seen a slew of high-profile departures, layoffs and a major cancellation at studios under the SCE umbrella. The company had previously shut down three studios after the launch of its PS Vita - Zipper, BigBig and Sony Liverpool, but they'd each put out one last game for the platform and weren't anywhere near as big as the studios that have suffered lately.

Let's review the facts.

1. Layoffs at Sony Santa Monica and the cancellation of a major new IP

2. Uncharted writer Amy Hennig departs Naughty Dog

3. SCEA President Jack Tretton leaves the company

4. God of War III director Stig Asmussen leaves Sony Santa Monica

5. Evolution Studios director leaves

6. Layoffs at Sony London, Guerrilla Cambridge, Evolution Studios

7. Seth Killian leaves Sony Santa Monica

8. Uncharted 4 director Justin Richmond leaves Naughty Dog

Now I could sort of believe up until point 6 that there wasn't much behind all of this. This is a transitional time for the company, and number 1 and 4 are connected, assuming Asmussen was working on the cancelled IP. The layoffs at UK studios were also seemingly an unfortunately routine affair.

But when you add on another two departures of this caliber, it's painfully clear all is not right behind the scenes. Henning and Richmond were confirmed as working on Uncharted 4 last year. They're arguably the two most important members of the project. And they're gone. Santa Monica had been working on its project for a long time, even going as far as teasing it in the last God of War. And now it's no more.

It's a painful situation to be left in the dark in. Sony demonstrated a developer-friendly attitude last generation that was to be commended, and now we have these very uncharacteristic events. What does everyone think is happening?

1941-2016: 75 Years of Wonder Woman

As DC has unveiled their plans to celebrate Batman's 75 years of his remarkable legacy (with Superman's 75th year celebrated in 2013), I wanted to start a discussion on what we hope to see for the 75th Anniversary of WONDER WOMAN in 2016!!

-December 1941 marked the first comic book appearance of Wonder Woman in the issue of All Star Comics #8 (then appearing on the cover of Sensation Comics #1 in January 1942).

-75 years later on May 6, 2016 we will see Wonder Woman in her first feature film incarnation played by Gal Gadot in the Man of Steel sequel.

How do you think DC Comics and Warner Brothers Entertainment will mark this iconic milestone?

Looking at the plans they have for Batman, I would assume there will be a similar approach for Wonder Woman. Here are the areas you can share your thoughts and ideas:

Fallout from The Winter Soldier [SPOILERS]

So this should go without saying, but if you haven't seen Winter Soldier, stop, turn around, walk out the door, go to the cinema, watch it, come back, and continue. There's spoilers ahoy!!

:cap::cap::cap::cap::cap:

So with SHIELD being destroyed at the end of TWS (pretty fundamentally!) where does this leave us for Ultron? It's a big hanging question - clearly the remnant of SHIELD, which by the look of it is sunglasses Fury, will track down Hydra, but with no structure, who will send the call to arms to stop Ultron? Who is out there protecting the world? And will Ultron even touch on these developments?

Let's hear your best theories folks :yay:

First ninja turtles comics?

Hey gang, with all this turtle talk going around it got me wanting to read the very first series. I went to my local comic book store and picked up a series called "in color" the worker there said it was the first issues, when I got home the graphic novel consisted of random issues in color

So my question is, is there a graphic novel of the original first run of the turtles? And what is the name I should search for or have my comic book store look up to order?

Thanks allot guys!

Imagine this SICK scenario with Abomination and War Machine

Avengers: Age of Ultron. The Avengers have been captured with no way out. A new small group, known as "America's Team" is sent in. Thie group consists of Blonski, and War machine. We know Blonski is deep down a decent guy and patriot who just got a bit power hungry. I wouldn't force this within this movie, but somehow have Blonski and War Machine have a meeting with Nick Fury as a secret weapon team just in case. I can see it now, AC DC song "War Machine" comes blasting over the Theatre sound system, Abomination is dropped out of a cargo plane and lands right on top of Ultron, War Machine unloads with mini guns. The rest of the team is freed. Abomination will wind up getting burned to a crisp but what a way to go out!

End of an Internet Era: Television WithOut Pity to close

So many great recaps.

Originally started visiting when it was Mighty Big TV

http://ift.tt/1gGIACZ

Quote:

It was announced today that NBCUniversal would be closing down two venerable digital properties next week: Daily Candy and Television Without Pity.

In particular, Television Without Pity — TWoP in the parlance of our times, and for brevity's sake, because if today's news has taught us anything, it's that time is fleeting and nothing lasts forever —had a huge impact on the internet landscape and in particular the way that television was covered. Beginning in the late '90s as Dawson's Wrap (making Dawson's Creek the unlikely mother of an entire movement in TV criticism) and later as Mighty Big TV, the TWoP stock in trade was the TV recap, impossibly detailed summaries of individual TV episodes of everything from ER to Buffy the Vampire Slayer to Project Runway. Written not only for detail but for humor and fan engagement, they became, for a time, the way we talked about TV on the internet.
