How Many Billion Dollar Films Will Disney Have in 2017?

Last year Walt Disney Motion Pictures became the first film distributor to have four films gross a billion dollars worldwide in one year. Captain America: Civil War, Star Wars: Rogue One, Finding Dory and Zootopia. The Jungle Book came up $33.4m short of making it five. They also became the first studio to have five films gross $300m domestically. Those five films mentioned above.

As crazy as it might sound, it looks as if they have a real chance of breaking both of those records this year. Their major releases start in March with BatB, and go as:

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
Cars 3
Spider-Man Homecoming
Thor: Ragnarok

Sounds great, surely only a matter of time before his old biuddy Marty comes on board to direct.

PETA is the stupidest organization on the planet

I'm mean really? Read this idiocy:

In a recent 40k campaign event, for example, one of the biggest planets in the Human Imperium, Cadia, was destroyed after the evil forces of Chaos (actual demons!) crapped out a mass of nightmarish horrors over the planet, then smashed a giant, ancient spaceship into it, and then absorbed the shattered remnants of the planet and most of its 850 million inhabitants into a rift which was basically a portal to literal space hell. And that’s like, a Tuesday in the Warhammer universe. Nothing can be gained out of a grimdark point-scoring contest when your opponent is Games Workshop. As PETA itself notes, there are plenty of actual horrors within the fur trade with regards to the abuse animals face. Choosing to make a play against fictional fur garments in a setting as preposterously absurd as the world of Warhammer 40,000 instead seems like a profoundly poor area of focus when it comes to championing animal rights. But given that PETA has a long history of awful stunt campaigns, it probably shouldn’t be all that surprising to hear that they would focus on something like this in the first place.

Only one source, but who knows. It is a multi-game deal, and Guardians would be the logical next game after Avengers, given the explosion of popularity they had.

my idea for EON for James Bond's future

If there really is a public outcry for changing Bond's ethnicity, my idea for EON to solve the race debate for Bond goes like this.
Bring back Craig for 1 more entry.
The story will have Bond admit he needs assistance, showing him put his massive ego aside.
The story introduces a fellow agent , 006,008,009,etc.
Have that agent be another ethnicity other than white or male.
Have EON find a credible writer to flesh out this 'new' agent and make him or her as engaging as Bond.
This could set up a another character in a shared 'Bond' universe and extend the brand.
The next movie or 'mission' would solely feature the new agent.
It would also give EON time to find a replacement for Craig as the new 007.
Why change Bond at all?
Create this new agent to rival or even surpass him in popularity with a fresh start?
Dont copy Bond, make somone original with a different ethnicity to be better right from the start.

With an Intel Atom x7-Z8700 processor with Intel HD Graphics 405* GPU with DirectX 12 support, 4 GB of RAM and a 64 GB eMMC storage the handheld has the same specs as Microsoft’s Surface 3. The battery’s rated at 6900 mAh which should last*around*5 hours of active use at most. It also has a*single USB-C port for both data and charging, a full-sized USB 3.0 port,**a mini HDMI type C port for a second or mirrored display, a microSD card slot that can support up to 128 GB cards and*Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (no LTE). The hardware can handle around 30 fps on the 720P screen, which has wide viewing angles but which is not bright enough to use in*sunlight outside, *though the device is also limited by its small 64 GB internal storage and Slashgear notes the SD card slot does not seem to deal well with larger memory cards. The full Windows 10 desktop is cramped on the small screen, but the tablet UI works well on the multi-touch screen. The device reached around 16 fps on high and 24 fps on low settings in Devil May Cry and seemed quite playable. Skyrim on the other hand was “a disaster” and never peaked above 15 fps. The battery lasts from 3 hours under heavy to 5 hours under light use, and the handset can be charged over USB-C from any 5V/2.5A source, meaning a good power bank could keep you going indefinitely. As a PC the store apps make good use of the small screen, and using your finger is preferable to using the joystick as a mouse control. You can of course also connect it to an external screen, keyboard and mouse, either via the ports of wirelessly, and the device can do anything a Surface 3 can do, except use an active pen. Slashgear calls it “the first truly mobile PC gaming device as well as an example of what a mobile Windows 10 could have been”* and while they think future versions may be better, the GPD Win has the advantage of being available now.

I guess the writers didn't watch the Vixen CW Seed...

In this past episode...Vixen's necklace was ripped off her neck. But if you watch the first season of Vixen on the CW seed it is showed that it cannot be taken off once it bonds with the person.

Also, if this Vixen is the current Vixen's grandmother was living in the US...that also causes a situation since the current Vixen's family all lived in Africa in the village where the totem has been protecting the village for generations. The current Vixen came to the US as a baby to escape her sister and warlords.

I guess the writers didn't watch the Vixen CW Seed...

Fathers and sons

I was told by many before, watching this film as a Father is a new experience. Well I just watched it for the first time since my son was born and although I had emotional investment in the film before I have been more so now. Those people telling me that were not wrong at all.

Right from the moment Jor El placed baby Kal El into the rocket, a thought occurred to me, would I be willing to put my son in a rocket we're the planet about to explode. I'd like to think I would but when Lara says "I can't do it" she is probably echoing the feelings of any parent. There's a chance he might not make it but Jor El believes he has a chance and that is worth the risk.

There are moments later like when Pa Kent sacrifices himself for his son (regardless of personal feelings of anyone about the execution of the scene I'm talking about simply making a sacrifice). I would definitely sacrifice myself for my son, it wouldn't even be a question. I would just do it.

There are other moments in the film of course that reflect those father and son moments but those two above were the ones I resonated with even more this time out. Man of Steel is certainly a film about Fathers and sons that's for sure.

You ever imagined what happened with the Joker after the end of The Dark Knight (Christopher Nolan, 2008)? Sadly the death of Heath Ledger deprived us the possibility to see the character again in the sequel, The Dark Knight Rises (Christopher Nolan, 2012), and his conflict with Batman was never solved. The answer to this issue is a graphic novel that takes up the conflict between the Joker and Batman beyond where it was at the end of The Dark Knight, and, trying to do a realistic Batman universe, the action moves to New York today, which really doesn’t produce any major change from the 2008 film.

Now I’m going to release the first chapter of three, as a tribute to Ledger and his impressive performance. I hope you enjoy it!

This year is the 30th anniversary to one of the best Sci-fi/action films ever made and one of my all time favorite movies.

I first saw this in theaters when i was 6 years old with my mom and dad at one of my city's theaters and thought it rocked. I even had a few of the toys, cards, comics and watched the animated show.

Even own the 2014 blu-ray and Laserdisc from Criterion plus it's such an influential work of satire that it's lightning in a bottle.

Australia Day date change

Okay, I don't know how many Aussies there are here, but for those that are, there is this endless debate that happens every year around Australia Day about moving the date of Australia Day because of the sensitivity of the day for Aboriginal People (for you Americans, Australia Day is like Columbus Day, it's the day that the British arrived on Australian soil and colonised it with their convicts and declared Australia Terra Nullius despite Indigenous Australians already occupying the land because the British considered them animals).

Who here agrees that the date should be changed? I personally believe it should be changed because I believe the 3rd of March 1986, when the Australia Act was passed where the British parliament relinquished the right to legislate for Australia was the true birth of our nation. That's when we truly became an independent nation rather than just a subsidiary of Britain.

That said, I am not overly enthusiastic about a change. I wouldn't get out on the streets to see change because it's not a high order issue for me. It won't improve anyone's standard of living at all. It is purely symbolic. Same deal with the Republic issue, we spend way too much time talking about that. I'm a republican, but seriously, there are more important issues.

Mental Health is a much higher order issue than those two issues I mentioned, yet you hardly hear ANYTHING on it. It actually effects people's lives, yet those two issues get all the airtime and mental health gets no airtime.

So thanks to Netflix I watched The Wraith today. A movie that was released in 1986 and starred a young Charlie Sheen. In this film a young man is murdered by a ruthless gang of street racers . Later on a man clad in all black with a black souped up car picks off the members of the street gang one by one with his seemingly supernatural power . One member of this gang is a doped up thug named Skank and a mentally challenged ( from drug abuse?) gang member named gutter boy . The Wraith kills every gang member with a local detective on his case only to be revealed as the murdered young man back from beyond set on revenge . That being said in 1988-89 James O'Barr released the Crow and a few years later work began on the Feature film . This story revolves around a young man back from the dead looking for revenge on the street gang that took his and his finances life . Dressed in all black with seemingly supernatural abilities goes after the street gang some included a doped up gang member named Skank who has become slightly mentally challenged due to drug abuse and a doped up member named Fun Boy .

Now I'm not saying that there is any infringement going on here but more than a little inspiration definitely. Thoughts ?

Netflix is behind the film, which doesn’t have an official cast yet. Saulnier will shoot in Alberta, Canada, for the Alaskan scenes, as well as a few days in Morroco, likely for Vernon’s storyline.

Bay To Produce Dystopian “Little America”

Universal Pictures has won a heated bidding war to pick up the rights to the futuristic adventure film “Little America” for Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes to produce.
The story is set in a dystopian future where what’s been described as a “Donald Trump-like U.S. president” has bankrupted America and China has called in its debts. As a result, China now owns America and many Americans have immigrated to China looking for work.
In this new world, a former American Force Recon member is hired by a Chinese billionaire to go into an American ghetto and rescue his daughter. The tone is said to be similar to the John Carpenter classic “Escape From New York” and is dubbed “sci-fun”.
Rowan Athale (“Wasteland”) penned the spec script and is attached to direct while Bay would produce with Andrew Form and Brad Fuller.

What do you want out of a Fantastic Four reboot?

Hollywood can never keep a superhero franchise on ice for too long. I think a Fantastic Four reboot is inevitable. Whether Fox tries yet-again to kickstart the franchise or Marvel Studios puts their spin on the characters, we can all agree that they would have (hopefully) learned their lesson from the 2015 film. That lesson being to stay true to the beloved source material. The more you deviate from it, the more alienated the fanbase becomes. Personally, I think a reboot should go all-out classic and take place in the 1960's. Give them the bright blue suits. Doctor Doom should NOT be the villain in the reboot. Yes, Doom is the greatest foe in the F4 rogues gallery, but we've seen him twice already. Build him up for the sequel and bring in someone like Mole Man to be the threat. Most importantly though, focus on the aspect of the F4 that makes them so special. They aren't a team. They're a FAMILY. Thoughts?

DC COMICS’ GYPSY ARRIVES ON EARTH-1 – H.R.’s past catches up with him when a bounty hunter with vibe powers named Gypsy arrives in Central City to bring him back to Earth-19 to stand trial for his crime. It turns out inter-dimensional travel is illegal on their Earth. H.R. surrenders but when Barry and Cisco find out that H.R.’s only hope would be to challenge Gypsy to a fight to the death, they intercede and Cisco offers to fight Gypsy instead.

The "What if? Original Cast" Thread

Yeah. I did it.

So the dust has settled on Time's "Worst Movie of the Year" (ridiculous), and the responses have been mixed. Apocalypse has flaws, and strengths, and roughly 50% of this franchise's established cast. With the way DOFP ended, there were two seperate paths to step forward from, so it seems logical to discuss the other side.

I wonder what you all think could have happened if they went the other way.

What could have been great about a 2023 Apocalypse?
What might have brought it down?
What good stuff would you have missed from the 1983 version we got?

Am I the only one not enjoying the new Rebirth series? I enjoyed the new 52, especially the Trinity War story (that should be the new animated movie) I tried to get into Rebirth but so far I'm just not enjoying it. I'll keep trying it.

Seems to be between BvS and Gods of Egypt for the big award. Zoolander 2 led the nominations with 9, but that lack of screenplay nomination seems to indicate that it might not be a contender for worst picture.

If BvS wins worst picture, it would be the second year in a row for a superhero movie.

I do, a lot, every day.
And no, i'm not crazy nor do i ever felt like one for doing so. And i do it for decades now.
I only do it when i'm alone, usually at home.
And no, i don't hear voices and i know that no one is physically there with me.
But i do say things, from time to time, like "do you understand?" or "do you guys understand?"
Sometimes i feel like i have an audience....:yay:

And i talk about anything and everything.
I talk about a game i play, a movie i watched, a story i thought about....anything that crosses my mind.
And i can do it for hours straight, like having a deep conversation with myself.
And i walk around my house when i do it, i don't like to do it sitting or lying down.

I love to do it, is like having someone deeply interested in everything i have to say, in all my ideas, with no judgment.
Someone that will hear everything i don't say to others because they are not interested or is not interesting enough.
This way, i never feel lonely, and i feel that anything i think and say matters.

Animated DC movies? I haven't seen many. I saw Justice League War. I enjoyed that. I saw Flashpoint and thought that was ok, and I saw the one called " Doom" I believe. The last one I saw was Superman vs. The Elite. I'm a Superman guy anyways but I thought the baddies were interesting.

No, not the modern-day Ghibli saloon. No, not the original 1960s coupé. The 1992-1998 Ghibli II; the V6-engined, boxy-yet-beautiful two-door coupé which preceded the 3200GT, 4200 and GranTurismo. It’s got a mystique to it, as a largely unknown car from a carmaker who a few years prior was churning out near-legacy-ruining dreck. I already have the eight-week Mediterranean road trip planned. Now to pitch the idea to my superiors on the Autocar team.

Also taking joint first place is the Smart Roadster Coupé Brabus. In my eyes, it’s one of the purest forms of motoring fun produced in the last twenty years, save very specialist examples or the Mazda MX-5. It’s a shame it wasn’t offered as a manual, but its micro-Batmobile looks (in glass-backed Coupé form only, NOT the awkward Roadster), mini-Porsche-911 three-cylinder engine note and scarcity more than make up for it. I’m informed that Gordon Murray drives one to work, too. That’s justification enough for me.

The M6. Yes, the Bangle one. Because, in my opinion (you’re welcome to and probably will disagree), after eleven years or so, it still looks fresh. And because of its insane V10, its tech-heaviness, and its eight-minute ‘Ring lap time which I would never have a hope in hell of replicating, as well as all 499 of its brake horsepower.

Once Upon a Time

Anyone else watching this..?

I've just spent that last two or three weeks binging on seasons 1-5 on Netflix. Such a good series, makes me wish I'd been watching it from the start! Going through it so fast makes me feel like it just started rather than it being six seasons in already.

Sure it can be a little hokey at times, but I'm liking the twists and turns and especially...

[SPOILER]...Regina's redemption story. I love a good redemption story and they are handling really well.[/SPOILER]

I've liked pretty much everything right up to the Dark Swan arc, and although it was good, it seems that they lightened up on the plot rather than going as dark as they should have.

Season 6 though seems even more off. So far, the only episode I've really liked is 'Heartless.' Which is also the last one I've seen so far, and I wonder if it was better because Espensen wrote it?

It felt tighter and more suspenseful like the first few seasons, whereas as the few before were more loose and a bit disjointed. The Aladdin arc wasn't done too well either, especially with the British accents.

Still, I have two more before the mid-season break and then it starts up again in March. Hopefully the latter half of the season will improve and they'll get a seventh.

I'm a tremendous fan of man of steel and BVS. Im happy where these movies were going but I think it's very important that for the heroes to be a big success, they can't just save the world. They have to make it better than it was before they, and the "super villains" were ever on the scene.
Something huge like the elimination of nuclear weapons, solving world hunger.. whatever.
I love this Superman but he did, unknowingly, and unintentionally caused the earth some damage so far.
I think that's fine. There's a lot of drama in that. But with Superman almost being a living God, I think Superman does need to do something to inspire people to make the Earth a noticeably better place. For a real payoff, I think in the end the world really has to have changed like never before. How so, I'm not sure.
I'd be interested if anyone had any thoughts on this idea. If you've maybe thought of this or is the world existing through their heroism, enough?

I've been a Moderator of this forum for quite some time, and I've always striven to have it be a place on the Hype where all fandoms, personalities and eccentricities can come and find some topics to discuss that don't really fit in anywhere, and to get to know each other better.

When we all first found the Hype, I highly doubt it was for a Lounge or Community Forum, so what was the fandom or reason you stumbled upon the site? How did you come to discover the Community Forums, and what keeps you coming back?

Let's discuss the good, and the bad that goes around here, and some ways to improve it. And above all, let's be civil, and not stupid yall. :halo:

I don't know why I am posting here, I just need somewhere to vent rather than keeping this all bottled up in my head. I am supporting a friend at the moment who is going through some really tough stuff which has involved severe cyber bullying and her contemplating ending it all. Every time she puts a post on Facebook, about 30 minutes later she has to take it down because she cops so much abuse.

I hate that she has to do that. I hate seeing her in so much pain. I wish I could wave a magic wand and make it all disappear, but I can't and it's so frustrating. I wish I could go to her and hug her tight and tell her everything is going to be okay but I can't because we live to far apart and don't have transport. All I can do is write words in a facebook message and console her that way. It is all so frustrating.

Sorry guys, I just needed to vent somewhere.

A new creative thread

I can only speak for my self here but does anyone else feel the Fandom Come thread needs a reboot?

This place is full of talented writers, thinkers and artists that are all together almost everyday but do nothing with that opportunity. Its like being at band rehearsal but instead of playing we discuss our favorite or most hated bands and songs rather than actually playing music.

I feel we need a new creativity thread that will inspire the folk here to work together and actually create and give something back.

I feel the fandom come thread is very uninspiring and lacking the heart it needs for a creativity thread, in a place full of creative dorks I would imagine it would be thriving but its not.

Thoughts?
