What's up with Marvel Essentials?

I went online to order Essential Spider-man vol. 1 for my nephew. The line seems to be discontinued (is it?)

What surprised me are the prices copies are being sold for. New copies of Essential Iron Fist and Spider-man are being sold for over $50-$100.

What's up with that?
