I can't believe no one has made a thread about this. Post your favorite episodes, characters, etc. Have any fan art? Post it. Have any fan fiction? Post a link. Doesn't matter, just post it.
I love both shows. I kinda like Xena a little more than Hercules. Xena had to use her brain to overcome problems, while Hercules would usually just throw his problems into orbit (figuratively speaking, I don't think he ever literally did that on the show).
However, the stories on Hercules remained fairly strong throughout the shows entire run. I don't think Hercules ever actually jumped the proverbial shark. Xena, on the other hand, pretty much jumped the shark once she was made pregnant through immaculate conception, and her daughter was destined to destroy the Olympian gods to make way for Christianity. I realize that Lucy Lawless had actually become pregnant and they needed to write the pregnancy into the show, but there were many other ways they could have gone other than shoving Christianity down our throats. Just off the top of my head:
1) A new threat arizes that is so great that Xena and Gabrielle must join forces with Hercules and Iolaus in order to defeat it. Hercules and Xena believe that they may not survive this ordeal, and the night before the big showdown, they make love. Turns out they do survive, and their night of passion leaves Xena in a family way.
2) Zeus, the horny bugger that he is, comes to Xena in the guise of one of the men she truly loves/d (Hercules, Marcus, or Borias). They make love, she becomes pregnant, and now Hera is after her with a vengeance.
3) Some magic causes Xena to turn back to the dark side. During this time, she and Ares engage in some wild hanky panky. Gabrielle somehow breaks the spell and brings Xena back to her senses, but not before The Warrior Princess is carrying the bastard love child of the God Of War.
If they had used any of those story lines, they could've easily got another three full seasons out of the show.
Anyway, discuss and have fun.
