Screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzmann Have Ended Their Relationship

Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzmann are the two greatest screenwriters of our time, responsible for the following screenplays:

- The Amazing Spider Man 2 (2014)

- Star Trek into Darkness (2013)

- The Amazing Spider Man (2012)

- Cowboys and Aliens (2011)

- Star Trek (2009)

- Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009)

- Transformers (2007)

- The Island (2005)

So within the context of scifi blockbusters, this is a big deal, as the dynamic duo of Orci and Kurtzmann are a big deal, writing a significant quantity of what's watched. They'll also be co-writing Amazing Spider Man 3 and Venom, but those are already written, I think.

Here is the article by Alexandra Cheney of Variety:

Orci is currently laser focused on the upcoming “Star Trek 3.” He’s already been tapped to pen the picture along with Patrick McKay and John D. Payne, and he’s lobbying heavily to direct the production. The film’s co-producers, J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot and David Ellison’s Skydance, appear to be in favor of Orci helming the film, but people familiar with the situation say that Paramount is being cautious. If Orci lands the assignment, “Star Trek 3” would mark his directorial debut.

Meanwhile, Kurtzman has been tapped to direct “Venom,” Sony’s “Spider-Man” spinoff. He wrote the script with Orci and Ed Solomon, who also produced last summer’s runaway magic-centric film “Now You See Me” with the pair.

Kurtzman is also working on a solo deal with Universal to oversee monster movie franchises that include “The Mummy” and “Van Helsing.”

Interesting gossip, Roberto Orci exploded on a message board at Star Trek fans last year after STID was criticised.

Having said that, two biggest Star Treks in a row with best reviews is hardly a description of “broken.” And frankly, your tone and attidude make it hard for me to listen to what might otherwise be decent notions to pursue in the future. As I love to say, there is a reason why I get to write the movies, and you don’t.

STID has infinetly [sic] more social commentary than Raiders in every Universe, and I say that with Harrison Ford being a friend. You lose credibility big time when you don’t honestly engage with the ****ING WRITER OF THE MOVIE ASKING YOU AN HONEST QUESTION. You prove the cliche of ****** fans. And rude in the process. So, as Simon Pegg would say: **** OFF!
