Thoughts on smart watch?

So, I wanted to buy a new watch recently, and inevitably the smart watch option came up in conversation. I sort of skipped the Apple watch hype, because it seemed like a horribly frivolous luxury item. Also the horrible battery life, and the fact that it was ugly (my personal opinion, granted) didn't exactly make it tantalizing.

But now, I see the market has far more options, including some that actually look appealing, and are considerably more affordable. So, I am considering it.

I was wondering if anyone here had an opinion on them, or experience with them.
