(Note to mods: I didn't see a thread on this specific topic and I wanted to speak about the prevalence of these jokes specifically, which is why I didn't post this in the Michael B. Jordan is the Human Torch thread on the Fantastic Four boards).
When it comes to comment threads on fan sites, Michael B. Jordan jokes are the new "first" -- something that pops up in the comments of every single story even when it's not really that funny. I would be happy to leave it at that were it not for the disturbing undertones of these jokes, which is why I started this thread.
The gist of the joke is that casting Jordan, a black actor, as a traditionally white character is so off-the-wall wacky that you might as well as suggest Michael B. Jordan for any role. "Michael B. Jordan as Hawkgirl!", etc. But contrary to the refrain of "Why don't they just cast a white guy as the Black Panther then??", Johnny Storm is a generic cocky teenager whose race has absolutely no bearing on his character. At all.
Nearly as common as Michael B. Jordan jokes, of course, is the accompanying whining. "Oh, I guess pointing this out makes me a racist, right?!" Hmm, why would anybody ever think that? :whatever:
Well, let's see: It's been four months since Jordan was cast and these people still can't seem to get over the fact that they cast a black guy as Johnny Storm (because no one disputes that this is what it comes down to), to the point where they won't stop complaining about it. Why exactly does it bother them so much? Fidelity to the source material? Yeah, OK.
Seriously, is anyone else as sick of the Michael B. Jordan jokes as I am?
