Batman/Horror Crossovers

Batman (DC Comics) represents urbanization paranoia, so his nemeses are city ghouls who prey on sensibilities about pedestrian angst.

Scarecrow uses fear-toxins; Poison Ivy is an eco-terrorist; Two-Face is a rogue vigilante.

Gotham City symbolizes urban claustrophobia, and we've seen plenty of American noir/horror films focusing on urban hell --- e.g., Jason takes Manhattan, Dark City, From Hell, Escape from New York, etc., etc.

Since the city is a place where people meet to socialize, politicize, and trade, it is also a hub of general angst, and since Batman is the ultimate urban vigilante, arguably focusing more on urban insanity than Superman (DC Comics) and Captain America (Marvel Comics), we could consider the creative value of Batman-Horror comics crossovers.

For example, Scarecrow is a bat-villain who is not unlike the American horror film icon Leatherface, the chainsaw-wielding cannibal from the cult-favorite Texas Chainsaw Massacre horror film franchise.

Video games such as Mortal Kombat have already explored the entertainment value of introducing horror film ghouls to traditional fantasy and vigilante-realm superhuman arenas.

Why not have the Dark Knight contend with the likes of the chainsaw-freak Leatherface or the dream-warden Freddy Krueger (from the Nightmare on Elm Street horror film series) in an urban setting, so as to pronounce a general interest in 'urban hell-holes'?

The Predator film series, for example, has offered us images of the hunting creature prowling the American city, and we've seen spin-off video games in which the Predator roams around an urban environment.

I'd love to see a comics-horror crossover film such as Batman v Leatherface, perhaps directed by a risk-taking film-maker such as Robert Rodriguez or Brett Ratner.

After all, isn't 'urban hell' a synonym for 'creative direction?'

Just thinking aloud...
