Apologies, guys, I'm sure I had this conversation in another thread, but I can't find it.
One of my favourite additions to Marvel lore of recent years has been The Illuminati: the more ruthless, morally pragmatic offshoot of The Avengers. Made of some of the world's greatest super-geniuses, they use their combined intellect to preemptively tackle the situations that may otherwise evolve into crises the Avengers may have to fight, making some tough moral choices on the way.
In the wake of Civil War and rumours of a divided Avengers ensemble, maybe there'll be an opening for Captain America to remain as leader of The Avengers, while Iron Man heads up the Illuminati, going into Infinity War? Of course, we'd see the two factions unite going into Part II, but the first part could see Earth's greatest heroes fractured... could be an interesting dynamic.
As for the roster, by the time Infinity War rolls around, we'll have several established members of The Illuminati already introduced into the films:
Iron Man
Black Panther
Black Bolt
Doctor Strange
The rest of the team as they exist in the comics could be difficult, given that both Beast and Mr. Fantastic are owned by Fox, and Namor's rights seem to be tangled up in multiple studios. So who else could be added to the team from the MCU?
