Ben Wheatley's Free Fire - Hard-boiled arms deal gone wrong

Following Ben Wheatley's adaptation of J.G. Ballard’s novel High Rise he will direct Free Fire.

Quote:

The film is set in late-1970s Boston, and Luke Evans will play the leader of an Irish-bred gang alongside Armie Hammer. Olivia Wilde plays Justine, who arranges a large-scale arms deal between the Evans-Hammer crime syndicate and a pair of Irish rogues played by Christopher Nolan favorite Cillian Murphy and Wheatley regular Michael Smiley.

Wheatley describes the film

Quote:

“The idea for Free Fire came from my love of hard-boiled crime movies; from The Asphalt Jungle, The Big Sleep, The Killing, and The Big Combo to The Driver, Le Samouraï, and The French Connection to the modern cycle of Goodfellas, Casino, Hard Boiled and Reservoir Dogs. Free Fire will take you and stick you in the middle of the action. I want the film to have the stylish, no-nonsense feel that you get in Peckinpah’s The Getaway. It’s a modern ’70s movie. Muscular, tough, and spare.”

Wheatley's previous movies include popular cult indie films "Kill List," "Sightseers" and "A Field in England".
