Your idea for a prequel series (backstory spoilers)

Since we keep speculating about it, why not have a thread for it?

If you were part of a HBO brainstorming group coming up with ideas for a prequel series set in Westeros, what era (or eras) would you pick? Who would be your main protagonists? Antagonists? What climax would your series build towards?

Rob's Rebllion? The Dance of Dragons? Age of Heroes? The Conquest?

Here's mine:

Fire and Blood. A series largely mixing the events of the Blackfyre Rebellions and the Dunk and Egg series, with the central plot point seemingly being the Blackfyre Rebellions, but as those Rebellions begin to diminish, the focus shifts towards the main characters becoming aware of destiny... And dragons.

The odd thing about this story, is that the Starks wouldn't really be the main characters. Martin clearly has plans for Starks during this time frame, but with the possible exception of the "She-Wolves of Winterfell" he teased, the House that acts as main protagonists to Game of Thrones seems restrained to the North. Instead, our main protagonists would primarily be Southern born Targayens and their hangers on. Dunk and Egg would grow into the main protagonists, while our starter hero would probably be Lord Bloodraven, perhaps with him becoming more ambiguous and fading a bit into the background as his powers grow.

So, here's how I'd plan it: Season One opens with a tournament under King Aegon the Unworthy, a place to give some exposition for all Seven Great Houses and our Great Bastards. You'd have young Daeron and his Dornish Fiancé, the Tyrells being angry at their enemies present, the Greyjoys with a sharp eyed boy named Dagon, the Baratheons acting like the bestest buds with the Targaryens, and maybe for some irony, Lord Lannister sharing a drink with his old acquaintance, ancient and nearly blind Lord Cregan "Old Wolf" Stark. Aegon the Unworthy acts disgusting towards his sister wife, Aemon the Dragonknight clearly trying to enforce some behavior on his brother, and finally focus on a trio of high born bastard boys, where Daemon Water maybe pulls Aegor Rivers off Brynden Rivers. The first episode would establish everything we need to know, maybe feature Cregan reminiscing darkly about the Dance of Dragons, and end with Aegon the Unworthy getting into an argument with Daeron before suddenly acknowledging his bastards and giving Daemon the sword Blackfyre.

Season One would then cover the first Blackfyre Rebellion, showing Bloodraven becoming aware of his abilities and being accepted by Daeron as a true brother (you could get some nice feels out of Daeron giving the albino bastard Dark Sister.) Season Two would start Dunk and Egg as Bloodraven starts really exploiting his powers and unnerving even his allies while perhaps showing Aegor forming the Golden Company and winning some major battles, Season Three would continue Dunk and Egg and feature the Second Balckfyre Rebellion and the start of the Third, Season 4 would showcase the Third, the She-Wolves of Winterfell, and Aegon V coming to the thrown, while Bloodraven becomes the Three Eyed Raven in the North. Season Five would feature Aegon V winning the Fourth Rebellion, Baratheon's Rebellion, and the Tragedy at Summerhall, while Bloodraven ventures all the way North and retires to his tree.

OK, maybe Batman (DC Comics) is a America’s comic book version of Sherlock Holmes, since the masked caped crusader investigates eerie insanos in Gotham City, but Spider-Man (Marvel Comics) tackles nemeses who are oddly pedestrianism symbols of patterned behaviours we as a society deem as purely anti-social.

Green Goblin, Hobgoblin, Carnage, and Rhino are all mayhem artists, while Black Cat, Doctor Octopus, and Doctor Doom (and others) are masterminds of crime and represent basic fears about the ‘exuberance of crime.’


Commando War Comics became a favourite among WWII veterans, and perhaps Spider-Man comics are enjoyed by people generally interested in the quirky footprints of criminality.


Spider-Man’s goblin nemeses, for example, carry explosive pumpkin-bombs which perhaps symbolize the tools of terrorism (or general mayhem). This generic weapon utilized by multiple ghouls is abound in Spider-Man comics and they perhaps suggest that Spidey is the ultimate ‘mass psychology (or mob psychology) sleuth.’


So how can we use Spider-Man storyboards to better appreciate/understand mega-trends/patterns in criminal behaviour?

Release date speculation

I know when WB first announced their batch of DC Comics films, The Flash was scheduled for March 23, 2018. Then it was moved up a week to March 16. And then its date went to WB/MGM's Tomb Raider.

Things seem to be on track for a 2018 release. Rick Famuyiwa hired his star from Dope, Kiersey Clements, and the movie is still scheduled to shoot later this year.

WB has several untitled event films set for 2018. April 20, June 8 (originally set for Godzilla 2), October 5, November 16, and December 25.

Mr. Brady had been working late these last few weeks. Later then he cared to admit. Mr. Brady woke up, showered, quickly scanned thru the newspaper, and barely had enough time to throw a cup of coffee down his throat before he was out on the road going to work. Mr. Brady left precisely at 7am every morning & did not return until 7pm or later some nights. His architectural firm landed a huge contract to design a mall close to home. Since his firm had such high respect for Mr. Brady's work & he was such a key player in brokering the deal, his firm bestowed upon him the honor of project manager. Mr. Brady was hands on with everything. From what company he would select for the buildings steel girders , to what faucet setting would be used in the women's rest room. The timetable set for completion of the mall was set before Columbus Day so it could be open for holiday shopping. This is why he was late...everyday for months.

So when Mr. Brady came home one night & innocently heard of Alice boasting of her game winning touchdown pass to Bobby, he was shocked. The boys seemed to recount her Herculean efforts with much enthusiasm.

His mind, from stress at work, suddenly snapped. He crept into the house slowly. Mr. Brady peered around the corner, spying on Alice like a top level predator sizing up its prey. Mr. Brady popped just enough of his head around the corner so that only half of his face was showing. Mr. Brady stood motionless as he scanned her. There she stood at the island in the kitchen chopping vegetables for tonight's salad.

"Thick trunks for legs. Wide hips. Built powerfully on her lower half", he groaned out in a machine like voice as his thoughts came to him. "I'll have to attack her higher. Cut her down from the top like a woodsman would a giant Redwood" he mumbled.

5...4...3...2...1... the alarm in his head sounded. In a flash, Mr. Brady was off and bolted from his hiding spot behind the corner.

Mr. Brady was leaning forward as he ran, a freight train out of control, barreling off the tracks. It was such a terribly loud roar he made as he screamed speeding towards her. Mr. Brady's feet thundered across the tile floor shaking the room. Running with reckless abandon, clomping his feet like a horse in an all out gallop. Mr. Brady drove his shoulder into the small of Alice's back and exploded into her with merciless ferocity. The blow shot Alice across the kitchen, sending the bowl of chopped vegetables she was holding into the air. As the carrots, cucumbers, and onions came raining down upon them both in slow motion, she looked up at him smiling down at her just before she lost consciousness.

"That's how you deliver a hit. How you finish off the ball carrier. Hit and drive, HIT AND DRIVE!", he snarled . These were the words the guards said he kept repeating to himself over and over. It would be a long time before Mr. Brady would leave his cell. He wasn't lonely because the cheer of the crowd in his head kept him company. That made him smile.

Many posters here did not like MoS or BvS, but still are very much interested in these films, there is already an excitement thread for those of us who enjoyed the films and are 100% looking forward to JL, but not everyone else feels that way, so this thread is for those that are skeptical of the film and would like to share their concerns with others who feel the same way, please do not use this thread to complain about people who liked MoS and BvS, it would be nice to avoid the mods having to close the thread.

Bear in mind this is the skepticism thread, if you enjoyed the films, do not be offended by this thread, I did in fact like BvS, I am not trying to start anything, it is merely meant to keep things in the general forum more neutral, please be respectful of those that aren't feeling confident in the DCEU.

Marvel Western Trilogy

I would love to see a trilogy from Marvel concerning their Western characters and called "Kid". The reason being this:
“Timely/Atlas/Marvel favored Western characters with the word "Kid" in their name, including the Apache Kid, Kid Colt, the Outlaw Kid, the Rawhide Kid, the Ringo Kid, the Two-Gun Kid, and the Western Kid—as well as the more obscure heroes the Prairie Kid, the Arizona Kid, and the Texas Kid.”

I loved reading the reprints during the 70s. I think there is a long rich set of stories that could be tapped. I envision what Marvel did later (late 80s early 90s) reintroducing the characters in one story. MCU just seems to bring a certain quality of excellence and to mean nothing beats an exciting Western. Now that they've gone cosmic I would like to see this and there "horror" division get a little love. What are your thoughts? Hope this was an address lately.

Space Ghost Origin & Background on his Universe

Year 2107
Due to global population increases various countries sought solutions to aid Earth with alarming spikes in population. This caused tremendous strains on many nations. Economically there were not enough jobs, housing , or food. Still those countries affected by this problem were forced to install programs to assist unfortunate people in economies that were substandard already, placing more financial strain on themselves. A U.N. council meeting was held and the solution was to colonize space.

Year 2112
A joint effort by many nations began to colonize space thru private companies under loose regulations. The leader in space colonization was 'Earth2Stars' or E2S headed by president & founder Turk Pearce. Those countries who could support this economically sent their people ,after a screening process, by space shuttles supplied by E2S. Those countries who could not support the cost were chosen by a lottery system, with a predetermined amount of colonists they can send which was set by the U.N. This soon alleviated many economic pressures back on Earth and space colonies were able to show quick profit margins.

Year 2117
Soon alien races were discovered ,foreign diplomacy instituted towards them and alliances formed. The colonies began to trade with each other ,Earth, as well as alien races, increasing their profits. It was so prosperous shipping and trade lanes were mapped out in space. It was another industrial revolution and it benefitted all. Each colony had exceptionally low crime rates due to high morale & production. So the colonies appointed constables to keep order, without much funding or regulation from governing bodies.

Year 2122
It wasn't long until the colonies faced the problem of crime they thought they escaped from on their parent country of Earth. Space pirates frequently raided shipping lanes & looted cargo ships. Criminals in colonies began to rob colonial business' and banks. This problem was addressed by the U.N. on Earth and their solution was to establish a law enforcement group for the colonies given full support, funding, equipment and authority to police the space ways. The U.N. security council thru research, interviews and planning selected a director. Their 1st choice was British military colonel Marcus Grant to head the Colonial Space Rangers or CSR's

Year 2124
It wasn't long after the CSR's implemented Grant's ideas & plans that they began to get the results they wanted. He was hands on in all decisions with the CSR's from where bases were to be built to the design of their uniform. [white tight fitting uniform with a photo I.D. at the neckline for troopers]
Grant's methods yielded incredible results reducing crime by 75. He apprehended many criminals on the colony grounds as well as in space, crippling space pirates raiding cargo ships. He did this thru intelligence gathering & sound planning, as he used surprise attacks against the pirates, coming out of nowhere. He was soon dubbed Space Ghost by the criminals.

Year 2126
Grant became well respected thru out the colonies & earth as well. His legend grew. It wasn't long until Grant turned his attention on Turk Pearce, a very powerful player in space colonization & everyone accepted him at face value as a savior. But Grant wondered about Pearce's empire and decided to launch a covert mission to spy on him and watch E2S's machinations. Grant watched Turk's moves, studied his financial records, and thru surveillance and intelligence reports gathered thru the CSR's began to document all his findings on Turk Pearce and E2S. Grant discovered what he believed all along, that Pearce was dirty. Grant uncovered that Pearce was transporting equipment to manufacture nuclear weapons, mining for uranium, and held business deals to sell nuclear warheads on the black market. Turk Pearce was a nuclear arms trafficker and Grant's number 1 most wanted. Grant was afraid Turk would sell his arms to the highest bidder, perhaps an alien race that will use it for terrorism.

Year 2127
As Marcus Grant gathered more evidence to indict Turk Pearce , Pearce was also aware he was being scrutinized by the CSR's and hired assassins ,Zorak & Brak ,to dispose of Grant. One night Grant planned on watching a particular mine Pearce used to mine for uranium and watch its operations. Marcus was ambushed by the assassins, they left his unconscious body in the mine and sealed it up, detonated a remote bomb which collapsed the mine & killed Grant. Pearce thru media which was paid off, wrote off his death as an accident while Grant was there on inspection for other purposes. Grant's death had set back the CSR's program & they never fully recovered under his leadership. A power struggle ensued about who would run the CSR's as director and their effectiveness suffered. Soon the CSR's were disbanded until a new director was selected. Turk Pearce had won , or so he thought.

Space Ghost's Origin

Year 2128
Thaddeus Bach, an American special forces soldier was named successor. He quickly poured thru Grant's files to learn as much as he could & return the CSR's to their former glory. It was soon under Bach's leadership the CSR's returned to its height it achieved with Grant. Bach also read the file about the covert mission on Turk Pearce which Grant was working on at the time of his death. In his honor, Bach promised too see thru to the end the completion of Grant's mission. Bach worked endless hours on the data collected by Grant and was close to exposing Pearce. Before Bach left to examine the Grant's place of death , Turk again was tipped off . Becoming nervous about Bach's involvement Turk again contacted Zorak & Brak. Their plan was to have Bach arrive at the scene, then have the assassins detonate a low level nuclear device which would destroy Bach, the mine and the colony as well, eliminating all evidence for last. Turk was going to blame the explosion on a faulty power grid which was powered by nuclear energy.

Year 2129
Turk's plan was executed to perfection and the news lines stated ' CSR director killed in blast, colony now a Ghost Planet ' But there was something supernatural that happened Turk did not plan. All the innocent souls who perished in the blast stopped Bach's body from ascending to a higher place and delivered Bach's body back to the Ghost Planet. It was here something supernatural occurred. Some say it was unfinished business, that a soul that has business still on the physical realm will remain until its complete. That Grant's obsession with Pearce kept him here in some form. No one is sure what happened but Grant's soul , along with Bach's merged on the Ghost Planet in Bach's body & they became one. Bach was now alive, and was aware of Grant in him. Grant's soul made Bach physically stronger, it also gave him the ability to vanish at will & become invisible. Bach used the CSR uniform ,donned a black tight fitting mask, blacked out the photo I.D. on his uniform to resemble a silhouette and became Space Ghost. Finding repair tools in his damaged starship Space Ghost used wrist bands (heat, cold,etc.) to weld & seal holes in the starship and renamed it the Phantom Cruiser. Grant's soul also allows Bach the power of flight and ability to breathe in space. Space Ghost now uses the Ghost Planet as his lair and vows to hunt down Pearce and all involved in his and Grant's death.

Should this just be a Teen Titans movie instead?

Should this just be a Teen Titans movie instead? Cyborg seems like a good supporting character who can work well in a group setting, where he has a lot of other characters to play off, but I'm not sure he is interesting enough to carry a movie on his own. His best stories seem to be in the Teen Titans comics , so it seems to make more sense to use him that setting then trying to put him in a solo movie. I don't mind if he is the main character in a Teen Titans movie, but I do think he needs other heroes to play off of and it seems like most of his villains and supporting cast comes from the Teen Titan.

The Rocketeer Sequel/Requel

Ignore the Collider headline, this is a "requel" rather than a reboot.

The story of The Rocketeers will maintain the period setting of the original film, as it picks up six years after the events of that movie with Campbell’s Secord having vanished fighting Nazis: An unlikely new hero emerges: a young African–American female pilot, who takes up the mantle of Rocketeer in an attempt to stop an ambitious and corrupt rocket scientist from stealing jetpack technology in what could prove to be a turning point in the Cold War. Given that The Rocketeer drew heavily from 1930s serials, it’ll be interesting to see what this “modern day twist” does to alter the tone and feel of the franchise. Moreover, given that drones are ever-present and audiences have become accustomed to superheroes flying any and everywhere (particularly the Rocketeer-esque Iron Man), one imagines the central conceit of a jet pack and suit will be updated to make it more…impressive. However, I like the idea of handing the reigns of the franchise over to a black female lead. It’s a solid way of not trying to “replace” Campbell’s original character, and I appreciate the fact that it’ll continue the story where Johnston’s film left off. This is just now in the scripting stage and could very well further evolve during development, but as a big fan of Johnston’s original film I have to say I’m oddly excited about this news. Have we all learned our lesson that just because someone reboots a beloved film, that doesn’t mean the original loses any of its luster/ceases to exist?

Rocketeer is decently loved cult film, but I hardly think making a sequel to it will draw in a big audience.
Also live-action period piece films don't seem to do that well. Wonder Woman will probably be the exception

I think the media will incorrectly label it a sequel and then it'll become a whole nother Ghosbusters fiasco.
There are only writers attached so far and it might go nowhere.
I mean if it's good, then cool. But this just seems like a stupid idea all around

EDIT: and I haven't seen all of the original, been meaning to but havent. Isn't his main thing that he has a jet pack? In a world where Iron Man flies arounnd in a movie damn near every other year will The Rocketeer stand out action wise?

The Rocketeer Sequel/Requel

Wallace Keefe, Lex Luthor, and little red notes

To me, this is pretty straight forwards, but I'm having a harder time wrapping my head around a common alternative perspective and I'd like someone to stand up for it and explain why it makes more sense, is more likely, and their preferred interpretation.

This is my understanding:

1. Keefe loses his legs and is embittered.
2. A few months after the BZE, Bruce starts the Victim's Fund and sends checks.
3. Keefe cashes the first few checks to support his family, but his complex of being less-than drives away his family, embittering him further.
4. Keefe sees Bruce as moving on and ignoring casualties like himself, ignoring Superman, and just using money to bury the issue.
5. Keefe's grudge grows against Bruce too, which is why Bruce is on the wall along with Superman.
6. Keefe begins to reject the checks with little red notes.
7. No one from the Fund cares because it's a callous kind of charity to begin with, they didn't find Keefe a new meaningful position, counseling, support, or health care... they fired him and cut him checks. If he rejects their money, they're not in a position to offer anything else anyways so they ignore his notes.
8. Keefe protests in the manner for 8-10 months max, not all ~24 months since the BZE.
9. After the African Incident hits the news, Keefe's had enough and stages his public Superman statue protest in broad daylight, in front of cops and cameras, aware of the consequences, hoping to spur awareness.
10. Keefe screams "I work for Bruce Wayne!" to incite Bruce to action and to make others think Bruce Wayne endorses this action.
11. The televised arrest brings Keefe to Lex's attention.
12. While Keefe is incarcerated, Lex does his homework and figures Keefe the perfect patsy.
13. Keefe keeps meticulous records of every Superman story, so he probably keeps records of his notes to Bruce as well.
14. Lex offers Keefe a platform to be seen and Keefe accepts the wheelchair and the appointment with Finch.
15. Lex sends the final red note on a newspaper clipping to coincide with the bombing.
16. The day of the bombing, while Keefe is in Washington, Lex plants incriminating evidence in Keefe's apartment (additionally graffiti, bomb materials, etc)
17. On the helipad, Lex's statements are mere establishes awareness of the notes and not an explicit statement taking responsibility for them all.

That final line is what makes a lot of people leap to the conclusion that Lex is entirely responsible for all the red notes... but I have trouble understanding the motivation or logistics for this line of thinking. A few key questions:

1. When did Lex start to target Keefe and why? Two years removed from the Senate bombing, before the Committee on Superman had even been formed and before Finch was an enemy, why would Lex persecute an otherwise stable blue collar employee with a family?
2. Did Keefe ever know about the Victims Fund and how could Lex keep Keefe from learning about it, speaking up about it, or being contacted by the Fund or other victims, etc?
3. So did Keefe sit in silence for 24 months without checks? What if Keefe just got another sufficient job? How does JUST intercepting checks produce exactly the outcome you want two years later?
4. Did Lex return the checks monthly? Why would he call attention to his patsy before his plan? What if the Fund intervened in response to the notes, made Keefe whole, and undid the whole point of this?
5. How do you interpret Keefe crying out, "I work for Bruce Wayne!" If it is for his checks, aren't there better and more reasonable avenues that would have worked earlier? How could Lex control what Keefe would say? If Keefe blurted out, "I want my checks!" wouldn't that ruin Lex's plans?
6. How did Lex know Keefe would use red wording and abstract phrasing in protest, such that his red notes are consistent with that? What if Keefe wrote glowing letters and testimonies about Bruce online or had some sort of contradictory behavior with the notes? Does it make more sense for the red notes to have predicted Keefe's protest OR for the red notes to come AFTER his protest and ape his style... if the latter, why would Lex intercept checks in ADVANCE of a protest, to send a message via checks using a style he wouldn't know was coming?
7. Etc.

There's just so many logical inconsistencies with the idea that Lex started stealing checks from this random employee for a long distance plan based on facts Lex couldn't know and factors Lex couldn't control... but people cling to this all out of an interpretation of an incredibly vague line. Seems to me, it's way easier to adjust our interpretation of the line than try to work out logistics for a plan that doesn't make sense.

That said, I may have a blind spot. I might not be able to see some simple logical way Lex was able to do this from the beginning where it makes sense. So I'm open to having that explained to me.

What's your sequence of events? How could he have planned for it to happen as it did? Why would he want to (what's his motivation)?

Magic & Magnets - Million Juggalo March

As part of its ongoing battle with the FBI, the Insane Clown Posse is planning a march on Washington, D.C. with its fanbase, who are known as Juggalos.

The announcement was made at this weekend’s Gathering of the Juggalos festival in Thornville, Ohio. ICP and its fans will take the nation’s capital on Sept. 16, 2017, frontman Joe “Violent J” Bruce announced.

“In 2017, the weekend of Sept. 17, we need you. We’re gonna do a (expletive) march on Washington,” J told fans during the group’s seminar discussion at the Gathering, an announcement that was met with hearty applause. “They call the Juggalo World a movement, right? Well, let’s move!”

J also announced the group would be throwing “a huge Juggalo concert” that weekend, free of charge, at Jiffy Lube Live in nearby Bristow, Virginia.

The route for the march was also unveiled. It will begin at the Lincoln Memorial, proceed down Constitution Ave. and will end at the Washington Monument, where artists and fans will speak about what it means to be a Juggalo.

“We are going to explain to the world who the (expletive) we really are,” J said. The following day, on Sunday, Sept. 17, the group will throw a picnic for fans, J said.

ICP has been entangled with the FBI since Juggalos were classified as a “loosely organized hybrid gang” in the FBI’s 2011 National Gang Threat Assessment report. In 2014, ICP sued the FBI and the U.S. Justice Department over the designation, but the lawsuit was dismissed by a federal judge. ICP appealed the ruling, and won an appeal in an Ohio court in September 2015.

Regarding the march, J said he was unsure how it would be received. “We don’t know what’s going to happen,” he said. “We could totally embarrass ourselves, and there could be 25 people (that show up).”

The Gathering of the Juggalos closed out its 17th year on Saturday night with a performance by ICP.

I'm shocked, this time they have attacked near the town in which I live (Rouen)
In Saint Etienne du Rouvray, in the suburb of Rouen, 2 terrorists have assaulted a catholic church. They forced the priest (a 84 years old guy) to kneel before them and sliced his throat. Yes, they murdered an old man who wasn't able to defend himself. They seriously injured another man and took the people who where in the church hostage. The GIGN assaulted the church, killing both of the terrorist.

Surface Book vs MacBook?

Which is more worth it cause the reviews seem all over the place with this comparison. Some lean towards the fact that the Surface Book is a 2-in-1 and comes with a pen. Others lean towards the MacBook cause of the Force Touch trackpad and it's quadcore processor. But the Surface Book comes with a dedicated graphics card option...

I'm a little biased to Windows, but hell the Surface Book is pricey.
